preaching and on cooperating with the Holy Spirit, and he was basically saying something to the effect of when you get saved, nothing spectacular has to happen. 00:01:01.972 --> 00:01:07.772 You didn't have to see a vision, or you know, and I kind of I said it pretty loud out. 00:01:07.772 --> 00:01:11.103 Well, you did, and he didn't interrupt him. 00:01:11.103 --> 00:01:12.147 He didn't flesh can get in the way, or you could be distracted in one area or another not necessarily sin and you get held up a little bit. 00:06:39.937 --> 00:06:45.613 And I'm telling you, only God can at how I'm bragging on your husband, carol, and just how easy it is to lean on him in any area and how God accelerated him into position once he received word of faith, revelation. 00:07:33.338 --> 00:07:59.978 But I'm telling you there's so many we'll get to that later on there's so many adjustments that we need to make in order to go to the next level in him, and so all of us, myself included, that several times and I'm just always really impressed with our state and with our country, and pretty much every state, arkansas, all over the place, oklahoma especially, and this is a beautiful doing the will of God, doing kingdom business, and that's what we've been called to do. 00:08:47.669 --> 00:08:57.919 And so I just, if you'll open your Bible to Luke, chapter nine you know Luke is book of Luke, just not to go off on a whole thing, little Bible history for you. 00:09:19.009 --> 00:09:35.359 But Luke is, he is not a Jew and he's the only non-Jewish writer of the New Testament and he's also not one of the 12 disciples, and so it blows you away that he's able to write this account. 00:09:35.359 --> 00:09:40.140 And he wrote it before he wrote Acts, supposedly. 00:09:40.140 --> 00:10:05.804 And yet I was reading some EW Kenyon on this and he was saying how it amazes him that there's no part of the revelation of Paul in this gospel and so there's like a hint of it near the end and that's all you get of the Pauline experience in the book of Luke. 00:10:05.804 --> 00:10:12.328 But I just aren't you grateful for the book of Luke, aren't you think, like Mark? 00:10:12.328 --> 00:10:18.815 Mark wasn't a disciple either and he was John Mark. 00:10:18.815 --> 00:10:27.557 He was immature, he was like in the book of Acts you read about John Mark and he wasn't profitable, and then he went back and studied and became profitable. 00:10:27.557 --> 00:10:31.655 Where would we be without the book of Mark, right, the Gospel of Mark? 00:10:31.655 --> 00:10:34.804 And so both Mark and Luke are really important. 00:10:34.804 --> 00:10:38.495 John's like in a whole you know world on his own right. 00:10:38.495 --> 00:10:42.355 He's kind of the different writer, pretty much one of my favorite. 00:10:43.749 --> 00:10:55.413 If you're new at reading the Bible, I would encourage you to start with the book of John actually, but here in Luke nine, so you have about 10 chapters in the middle of Luke that are different from Matthew and Mark. 00:10:55.413 --> 00:11:07.211 So the first eight, roughly eight chapters are very similar to Matthew and Mark, and then the last I don't know five, six, seven, after Jesus gets to Jerusalem. 00:11:07.211 --> 00:11:24.990 The last five or six chapters are very similar to Matthew and Mark, but in the middle you have this, these group of stories that only that are, only Luke tells, and so again. 00:11:24.990 --> 00:11:32.804 So, just starting at verse one, we're just going to kind of go through Luke nine and pretty much all through the chapter, but we won't read it word for word. 00:11:32.804 --> 00:11:48.397 And it says Jesus now called the twelve and gave them authority and power to deal with all demons and cure all diseases, and he commissioned them to preach the news of God's kingdom and heal the sick. 00:11:48.397 --> 00:11:54.195 And he said you know, keep it simple, basically, don't load yourself up with equipment. 00:11:54.195 --> 00:11:58.804 You have everything that you meet, need, you've, you've, you are, you are the equipment right. 00:11:58.804 --> 00:12:09.597 And then commissioned verse six commission they left and they traveled from town to town telling the latest news of God, the message, and curing people everywhere they went. 00:12:09.597 --> 00:12:14.414 And so I'm just going to kind of go back over here and just kind of go through it. 00:12:14.414 --> 00:12:16.927 You know we have. 00:12:16.988 --> 00:12:22.453 In verse 10, he feeds the 5,000, right, we have heard about that know, in verse 23, take up your cross. 00:12:44.658 --> 00:12:55.028 I'm in New King James, if any, if anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. let's build a tabernacle, let's let's build some shelter and just stay right here. 00:14:03.804 --> 00:14:05.808 This is awesome. 00:14:05.808 --> 00:14:17.669 And God interrupts him, not Jesus, not James and not John, but God himself interrupts him and says this is my beloved son, hear him. 00:14:17.669 --> 00:14:23.799 And so even God was trying to get their attention focused on the words of Jesus. 00:14:23.799 --> 00:14:30.804 You know, jesus only said what his father said to say right, his words were very important. 00:14:31.485 --> 00:14:49.809 And so right after that they get down from the mountain, in verse 37, and a boy needs healing, he has demons and they're like Master, you know, we tried to have your disciples pray over them, but the but they wouldn't, they couldn't get the demons out. 00:14:49.809 --> 00:14:52.056 And he's, he like, starts rebuking them. 00:14:52.056 --> 00:14:57.496 Right, oh, faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you and bear with you? 00:14:57.496 --> 00:14:59.528 Bring your son over here. 00:14:59.528 --> 00:15:00.070 And what does he do? 00:15:00.070 --> 00:15:11.365 He cast the demons out and all as well, right, and but but they, the, the disciples missed, they missed their own rebuke here. 00:15:11.365 --> 00:15:20.937 They had a lack of faith and they missed it, and so I just want to start back in the message Bible in verse 43. 00:15:20.937 --> 00:15:36.990 It says while they continued to stand around exclaiming over all of the things that he was doing, jesus said to his disciples treasure and ponder each of these next words. 00:15:36.990 --> 00:15:40.518 The son of man is about to be betrayed into human hands. 00:15:40.518 --> 00:15:42.769 And they didn't get what he was saying. 00:15:42.769 --> 00:15:52.250 It was like he was speaking a foreign language and they couldn't make heads or tails of it, but they were embarrassed to ask what he meant. 00:15:53.272 --> 00:15:53.974 How many of you know? 00:15:53.974 --> 00:16:01.833 Maybe you've been reading your Bible and you really don't understand what that story, what that parable is about, or what that you know. 00:16:01.833 --> 00:16:03.177 That happens time to time. 00:16:03.177 --> 00:16:09.956 The advantage that we have, though we have the Holy Spirit living and dwelling on the inside of us, and you can just ask. are taught to not read their Bibles because they're taught that they can't, that there's no way for them to understand the Word of God. 00:16:24.410 --> 00:16:27.376 But no, we have the Holy Spirit living on the inside of us. 00:16:27.376 --> 00:16:33.764 That that explains it to us, amen, and it reveals to us these meanings, and so we don't have to be afraid. 00:16:33.764 --> 00:16:38.745 But here the disciples they didn't understand what Jesus was saying and they just kind of ignored it. 00:16:38.745 --> 00:16:46.804 Hey, they were so excited they went on and on about what Jesus was doing, but they ignored what he was saying. 00:16:47.469 --> 00:16:57.418 And so sometimes, while we're focused on the works of Jesus and we miss the words of Jesus. 00:16:57.418 --> 00:17:05.147 And so it's so important, you know, the works of Jesus are really important, right, what he's done. 00:17:05.147 --> 00:17:24.135 We've been called like in my dad's vision that he had that I was reading we're called to do greater works, right, and we believe God for the miraculous, and we get excited around here and we run around the church and we're filled with the Holy Ghost and we shout and we praise really loud. 00:17:24.135 --> 00:17:35.393 And I'm telling you, though, when we get more enamored with the works of Jesus and ignore the words of Jesus, dangerous things begin to happen. 00:17:35.393 --> 00:17:52.165 And so the works of Jesus, disconnected from His words, produce actions far from His heart, and the fruit of your labor doesn't it, won't, it won't ever match the fruit of His labor, what he did. 00:17:52.165 --> 00:18:03.210 We're supposed to be Christ-like in all things, but if you don't understand what God's telling you and you begin to go out on your own and you're just looking for the miraculous. 00:18:03.210 --> 00:18:19.329 You're going to miss it every time, and so, truly, they miss the point on this, and so I just I'm going to keep reading, but I have to go back and forth between two pages here to get to where I'm, you know. 00:18:19.329 --> 00:18:21.233 I basically let's start my points. 00:18:23.845 --> 00:18:28.515 I have four calibrations that Jesus is making to have a successful journey. 00:18:28.515 --> 00:18:29.798 Right, they're on a journey. 00:18:29.798 --> 00:18:31.351 They're on a journey in between. 00:18:31.351 --> 00:18:38.233 The journey is to Jerusalem, right, and so we know that the journey ends in death and really ends in resurrection. 00:18:38.233 --> 00:18:46.675 Right, but they have to go on this journey to get there, and so that leads them through Samaria, and that's where this journey is right now. 00:18:46.675 --> 00:18:52.929 And Samaria is not a very fun place, it's not a very inviting place, and we'll read about that here in a second. 00:18:56.207 --> 00:19:04.529 And so the word calibrate means to adjust precisely for a particular function, or to measure precisely. 00:19:04.529 --> 00:19:14.153 And so I'm telling you, we're to allow the Holy Spirit to calibrate us, to adjust us precisely for the function that God has for us. 00:19:14.153 --> 00:19:22.750 It's really important to not miss a step and not miss something on the inside of us that God's trying to change. 00:19:22.750 --> 00:19:34.077 And I'm telling you when you, when you open up your heart to God, you know, mark just came up here for prayer and he, he was, you know, he just wants, he didn't want to miss it, he wants to hit it every time. 00:19:34.077 --> 00:19:41.553 So that was his way of just coming up for prayer, was his way of consecrating himself to the Lord and to God's will. 00:19:41.553 --> 00:19:48.049 And so I didn't, you know, we kind of prayed privately, but that wasn't, you know, something private really to talk about. 00:19:48.049 --> 00:20:00.611 Just you're allowing your heart on the inside, you're allowing the Holy Spirit to calibrate, to make some adjustments in order to hit your function, and all of us have a function. 00:20:00.611 --> 00:20:11.976 And so, back on verse 43, we'll start with with our number one point, and that is Jesus helps calibrate how we see ourselves. 00:20:12.865 --> 00:20:23.474 And so in verse 43, while they continued to stand around oh, I'm sorry, we read that already treasure and ponder each of these words the Son of man is about to be betrayed. 00:20:23.474 --> 00:20:26.848 They didn't get it and they started arguing. 00:20:26.848 --> 00:20:27.531 Verse 46. 00:20:27.531 --> 00:20:30.553 They started arguing over which of them would be most famous. 00:20:30.553 --> 00:20:32.688 Isn't that funny? 00:20:32.688 --> 00:20:38.747 They totally they missed all of them getting chewed out for not having enough faith, casting out the devil. 00:20:38.747 --> 00:20:44.750 And then they get all focused on what Jesus is doing and they missed all of his words. 00:20:44.750 --> 00:20:50.730 And then Jesus is trying to explain to him what's coming, hey, what's ahead of the journey? 00:20:50.730 --> 00:20:57.155 They totally ignore it, and instead they're over here arguing over which one is going to be more, more famous. 00:20:57.155 --> 00:21:11.726 And when Jesus realized how much this mattered to them, he brought a child to his side and he said whoever accepts this child is as if the child were me accepts me, he said. 00:21:11.726 --> 00:21:15.075 And whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me. 00:21:15.075 --> 00:21:19.673 You become great by accepting, not asserting. 00:21:19.673 --> 00:21:24.114 Your repellent of grace, and so it requires grace in order to achieve what God has us doing. 00:22:06.577 --> 00:22:14.196 Grace is God's ability, right, and so we require it, requires his ability in order calibrated how we speak to others. 00:30:40.580 --> 00:30:52.512 We always speak with the love of God, and so we have to see others the way God sees them and through the love of God, and I mean every 51, we have number 3, god calibrates how we see the outsider. 00:31:17.239 --> 00:31:29.512 So we talked about Luke being an outsider, because he wasn't a Jew, and I really liked the way the message Bible introduced the book of Luke talking about how Luke was an outsider. 00:31:29.512 --> 00:31:33.203 So you have the words of an outsider. 00:31:33.203 --> 00:31:38.780 He brought a different revelation and a different perspective to the conversation. 00:31:39.383 --> 00:32:00.028 But here in verse 51, when it came close to the time of Jesus' ascension, he gathered up his courage and steeled himself for the journey to Jerusalem and he sent messengers ahead and they came to a Samaritan village to make arrangements for his hospitality. 00:32:00.028 --> 00:32:07.855 But then the Samaritans learned that Jesus' destination was Jerusalem and they refused his hospitality. 00:32:07.855 --> 00:32:15.327 The real reason behind that, because it would have been unsafe for them in the natural. 00:32:15.327 --> 00:32:20.752 They weren't thinking about the supernatural, they were just letting this group of people come in that weren't going to stay there long. 00:32:20.752 --> 00:32:24.092 They're going to Jerusalem, and they didn't want anything to do with that, right? 00:32:24.092 --> 00:32:36.992 And so when the disciples, james and John learned that they were being rejected, in other words, they said Master, do you want us to call a bolt of lightning down out of the sky and incinerate them? 00:32:36.992 --> 00:32:39.825 And Jesus turned to them and said of course not. 00:32:39.825 --> 00:32:44.434 And so that's really much better than the New King James. 00:32:44.555 --> 00:32:57.076 Let me find that you do not know what manner of spirit you are of, for if you want to be offended and you go around looking for opportunities and ways to be offended, the devil will feed you that over and over and over again, all day long, until you feel run over, until
