00:00:49.970 Let's look at Daniel, chapter six tonight, and also Proverbs, chapter four, and we will get into the Word together. 00:00:50.140 --> 00:01:12.085 Daniel six, verse one it pleased Darius to set over the kingdom 120 princes which should be over the whole kingdom and over these three presidents, of whom Daniel was first, that the princes might have accounts, might give accounts under them and the king should have no damage. 00:01:12.085 --> 00:01:28.751 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes because an excellent spirit, an excellent spirit was in him and the king thought to set him over the whole realm. 00:01:28.751 --> 00:01:34.766 So Daniel had an excellent spirit and it was noticed by the king. 00:01:34.766 --> 00:01:39.430 And then over in Proverbs, the fourth chapter. 00:01:39.430 --> 00:01:46.022 We want to get to that one, verse 23,. 00:01:46.022 --> 00:02:11.771 Keep or guard thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life, out of it are the issues of life, and so I wanted to speak tonight about guarding your spirit. 00:02:11.771 --> 00:02:18.836 It's so easy now because of the way things are in the world. 00:02:18.836 --> 00:02:32.469 You know, jesus, or rather the word says in the last days, paul told Timothy in the last days, perilous times shall come, dangerous times, and we need to stay in the spirit. 00:02:32.469 --> 00:02:44.800 We need to be people of the spirit and we need to be sensitive to the ways of the spirit, because that's the only way to really properly combat what's going on in the world. 00:02:44.800 --> 00:02:49.604 The spirit realm is the causal realm. 00:02:49.604 --> 00:02:54.983 Everything comes from the spirit realm and we wrestle about against flesh and blood. 00:03:14.455 --> 00:03:26.723 You know, in the beginning of Daniel Daniel 1-8, it says that Daniel, as a young man, he had purposed in his heart not to defile himself with the king's meat and with the wine. 00:03:26.723 --> 00:03:33.063 You know, they had a way of eating, they had a way of drinking and he wanted to keep the dietary law. 00:03:33.063 --> 00:03:33.998 He wanted to. 00:03:33.998 --> 00:03:39.247 And so, you know, they kind of confronted him about his diet. 00:03:39.247 --> 00:03:41.361 They wanted him to eat like everybody else was eating. 00:03:41.361 --> 00:03:44.603 And they accused him and he said, look, just let's prove it out. 00:03:44.603 --> 00:03:53.924 You know, give me a month and I'll, you know, we'll eat the way we eat and the rest of them will eat the way they eat. 00:03:53.924 --> 00:03:55.901 And then compare let's compare notes. 00:03:55.901 --> 00:03:58.723 And of course they found out that he was better. 00:03:58.723 --> 00:04:00.356 It was better. 00:04:00.356 --> 00:04:14.723 And so here we find that, after proving his request, the king found Daniel and all the other ones that were with him 10 times better. 00:04:14.723 --> 00:04:17.079 They 00:04:27.482 You know, that'd be kind of cool to be 10 X. 00:04:30.521 --> 00:04:42.603 And so Daniel closely guarded his spirit and that you know, it wasn't just, it wasn't an accident that he had an excellent spirit. 00:04:42.603 --> 00:04:49.083 I mean, he guarded his spirit, he protected his spirit, he protected how he lived. 00:04:49.083 --> 00:05:06.057 He thought, you know, about what he ate and drank, and didn't drink, didn't eat, and Proverbs 4.23, you know, guard your or keep your heart for out of it, or the issues of life, it, you know. 00:05:06.057 --> 00:05:12.206 Another version says it literally determines the course of your life, your life and prosperity. 00:05:12.206 --> 00:05:15.886 Moffitt's translation says why is that? 00:05:15.886 --> 00:05:21.307 Because your spirit is the center of your being. 00:05:21.307 --> 00:05:29.904 We are spirits, we live in a body and we have a mind, will and intellect, our soul, and so it's the part of us that lives forever our spirit. 00:05:29.904 --> 00:05:38.228 And our spirit, as our spirit is, is how we are going to have success or not. 00:05:38.228 --> 00:05:45.120 When we allow things in our life that affect our spirit, it's 00:05:52.060 --> 00:06:03.302 When you look up the concordance, your Greek concordance about abundant life, it means super abundant and quantity superior in quality. 00:06:03.302 --> 00:06:13.064 So the qualitative and quantitative part of your life, that's what Jesus came to give you and it says might, that you might have it. 00:06:13.064 --> 00:06:16.564 Well, the might is all on us, it's not on God. 00:06:16.564 --> 00:06:22.322 God has dumped out super abundant and quantity superior in quality. 00:06:22.322 --> 00:06:25.120 That's what he's given, that's what he bought and paid for. 00:06:25.120 --> 00:06:27.401 But the might is on our side. 00:06:27.401 --> 00:06:40.682 The might is up to us to keep or to guard our spirit, which governs that life, that Zoe, the God kind of life, the word life there in his Zoe. 00:06:40.682 --> 00:06:42.860 It's the kind of life that God lives. 00:06:42.860 --> 00:06:47.942 His life is, god lives it, and that's the very life we have available to us. 00:06:47.942 --> 00:06:53.682 We can live as God lives, we can know as God knows we're not God, but we have his life. 00:06:53.682 --> 00:07:02.204 But if we don't keep or guard our spirit, then we fall short of what God wants us to have. 00:07:04.939 --> 00:07:17.646 And again, there's so much pressure in the world vying for attention, trying to get our attention, trying to get us to focus on this, that and the other. 00:07:17.646 --> 00:07:30.060 The devil can't come directly at us, so he creates diversions, he creates distractions to sort of get us to where we're not paying mentioned, we're a spirit being, we live in a body, we have a mind, a will and intellect, which is our soul. 00:07:47.175 --> 00:07:51.867 And in Romans, chapter eight, let's turn over there. 00:07:51.867 --> 00:08:05.322 Romans eight, it gives you some principles here. 00:08:05.322 --> 00:08:25.725 In verse five it says for they that are after the flesh, those who live after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh, but those that live after the spirit mind the things of the spirit, or to be carnally minded or fleshly minded is death. 00:08:25.725 --> 00:08:32.110 But to be 00:08:37.658 --> 00:08:50.489 It's the life that Jesus came to give super, abundant quantities, superior in quality, and here it's linking whether or not we have that life in abundance, like he wants, this abundant life. 00:09:02.830 --> 00:09:14.039 Again, health, prosperity, everything it has to do with our life on earth, is linked up to whether our mind is affected by our spirit. 00:09:14.039 --> 00:09:15.996 So we've got to guard our spirit. 00:09:15.996 --> 00:09:21.059 If we allow our spirit to be affected by the spirit of this world, what's gonna happen? 00:09:21.059 --> 00:09:25.633 And our mind is going to begin to take over Our carnal mind. 00:09:25.633 --> 00:09:34.655 We're going to be more moved by what we can see and our five senses, our sense, knowledge is gonna take over rather than our spirit. 00:09:34.655 --> 00:09:39.097 And so the minding of the flesh is death. 00:09:40.129 --> 00:09:50.097 That's not talking about physical death, although it can result in that, we're spiritually minded, we're connected up with heaven, we're connected up with the Father, we're connected up with Jesus and we receive warnings, we receive inside information, we receive baby, just like a child is born, and you know, from a mother. 00:13:16.841 --> 00:13:18.629 It starts off as a little baby. 00:13:18.629 --> 00:13:34.620 It's helpless and after a while, then it, you know, suddenly can start to kind of feed itself a little bit and then it starts toddling around and walking and you know, we have all these growth, the ways that human beings grow. 00:13:34.620 --> 00:13:36.537 Well, it's very similar to our spirit. 00:13:36.537 --> 00:13:52.600 And so it's necessary for our spirit to grow and keep growing into the place of extraordinary preeminence and that God can use the church so much more. 00:13:53.273 --> 00:14:00.363 So our spirit gains what I call gains the ascendancy over our mind and our body. 00:14:00.363 --> 00:14:06.898 It's like you've got three part being and they all have a vote. 00:14:06.898 --> 00:14:21.561 And when your mind is carnal and it's going to vote with the body every time and overrule your spirit, your spirit going to know you should do this, but it doesn't have the power over your mind and your mind will vote for the body, and then what's going to happen? 00:14:21.561 --> 00:14:22.703 Where you're going to do the wrong thing. 00:14:22.703 --> 00:14:33.085 Every time You're going to obey the flesh, and the Bible says in Galatians that that flesh and the spirit are at war with each other. 00:14:33.085 --> 00:14:36.994
