hope. 00:00:57.979 --> 00:01:11.471 The title of my message is Anchor of Hope, and so Hebrews 111 says now, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 00:01:11.471 --> 00:01:17.852 And so faith, you know, faith and hope are tied together. 00:01:17.852 --> 00:01:24.612 So faith gives our hope substance, and faith is in the heart. 00:01:24.612 --> 00:01:29.000 And so the difference in faith and hope, you know, faith is now. 00:01:29.000 --> 00:01:34.506 You've heard Pastor, faith is now, but hope is for the future, and so we need both. 00:01:35.340 --> 00:01:45.569 The Word of God has a lot to say about hope and our expectation on the future, and I'll be reading out of Romans 4. 00:01:45.569 --> 00:01:48.227 I'm talking about Abraham. 00:01:48.227 --> 00:01:58.692 Romans 4.17 says, as it is written I have made you a father of many nations. 00:01:58.692 --> 00:02:09.294 In the presence of him, who he believed, god, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did. 00:02:09.294 --> 00:02:22.024 Verse 18, who, contrary to hope, in hope, believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, so shall your descendants be. 00:02:22.024 --> 00:02:37.508 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider or we say he did not consider his own body, already dead since he was about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah's womb. 00:02:37.508 --> 00:02:59.409 He did not waiver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God and being fully convinced that what he had promised he was also able to perform and therefore it was accounted to him for righteousness. 00:02:59.409 --> 00:03:19.304 So here we see that you know Abraham against all odds, against what he was facing, against those things that were dead in his life, him and Sarah they were old, can bear children, and so, against all of those things, he hoped, and so I love it that. 00:03:19.304 --> 00:03:21.349 And then it says in verse 20, giving glory. 00:03:21.349 --> 00:03:28.739 He did not waiver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was circumstances, but he believed, he hoped in something. 00:03:42.979 --> 00:04:05.632 And so maybe you're facing something tonight where it's like you know what, it doesn't look good, the doctor says this, or my family says this, but you know what, against all that, maybe there are the things that are stacked up against you, but it hope believes. 00:04:05.632 --> 00:04:08.251 Faith is now and hope says you know what? 00:04:08.251 --> 00:04:14.634 If God said it in His word, I believe it and I believe it's going to come to pass. 00:04:14.634 --> 00:04:15.870 So I'm hopeful. 00:04:15.870 --> 00:04:18.812 My expectation is on the word of God. 00:04:18.812 --> 00:04:29.415 My expectation isn't on the natural senses and the natural circumstances around me, but my expectation is on God alone. 00:04:30.267 --> 00:04:54.874 And so if you go on and read Romans 5, if you keep on reading and I'm going to read that in the Passion translation, because I thought it was so good in the Passion translation, romans 5, our faith in Jesus transfers God's righteousness to us and how he now declares us flawless in His eyes. 00:04:54.874 --> 00:05:04.956 This means we can now enjoy true and lasting peace with God, all because of what our Lord Jesus, the anointed one, has done for us. 00:05:04.956 --> 00:05:16.619 Our faith guarantees us permanent access to this marvelous kindness that has given us a perfect relationship with God. 00:05:16.619 --> 00:05:26.817 What incredible joy bursts forth within us as we keep on celebrating our hope of experiencing God's glory. 00:05:26.817 --> 00:06:40.644 Contrary to what it looks like Contrary, you know, abraham and Sarah. 00:06:40.644 --> 00:06:48.644 Contrary you know to the natural circumstances what it looked like in their situation. 00:06:48.644 --> 00:06:53.156 They believed, they trusted God. 00:06:54.127 --> 00:06:58.586 In Hebrews 6, 18 through 20, the New Living Translation says so. 00:06:58.586 --> 00:07:01.855 God has given us both His promise and His oath. 00:07:01.855 --> 00:07:07.334 These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. 00:07:07.334 --> 00:07:18.396 Therefore, we who have fled to Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. 00:07:18.396 --> 00:07:20.658 Again, faith is now and then. 00:07:20.658 --> 00:07:21.644 Hope is in the future. 00:07:21.644 --> 00:07:26.249 So we hold to that hope that lies before us. 00:07:26.249 --> 00:07:34.733 This hope is a strong interest where the anchor for our souls, it's an anchor we need priest in the order of a Mchesedek. 00:07:46.250 --> 00:07:53.177 And so here, jesus already did what he did, he already went before us, and so we have that hope. 00:07:53.177 --> 00:07:55.158 And so I put down. 00:07:55.158 --> 00:08:16.264 When we are exhausted, the anchor of hope gives us fresh energy, like I thank you, lord, that you give me fresh energy every day when we are tempted to quit, the anchor of hope keeps us going, you know, and we're all tempted to quit sometimes, but that anchor of hope keeps us going. 00:08:16.370 --> 00:08:21.982 Hope for the future, hope that, you know, good expectation. 00:08:21.982 --> 00:08:38.095 We need to have a good godly expectation, not a negative expectation, not like, oh, this is happening again, and that family member, they just act the same way every time because I'm going to go to them and say this and then they're going to say that, well, no, that's you know what. 00:08:38.095 --> 00:08:42.518 Maybe that's been in the past and they've acted that way in the past. 00:08:42.518 --> 00:08:43.874 But hope, you know. 00:08:43.874 --> 00:08:47.976 Our hope should be that, hey, if God did it for us, he can do it for them. Why do you need an anchor? 00:09:15.336 --> 00:09:22.998 Number one to keep your life from being shipwrecked, and so hope in Jesus protects you. 00:09:22.998 --> 00:09:30.322 In the same way, an anchor keeps a boat safe, and so you know, anchors don't stop the storm. 00:09:30.322 --> 00:09:33.078 Like I think most boats have an anchor. 00:09:33.078 --> 00:09:37.910 I'm not sure if all boats have an anchor, but I'm assuming they do, Probably. 00:09:37.910 --> 00:09:40.378 I'm sure the huge naval ships have. 00:09:40.378 --> 00:09:46.077 You know, have you ever seen their anchors are probably like a thousand pounds, they're ginormous. 00:09:46.077 --> 00:09:54.518 And just the chains on those anchors I mean, you know, if they didn't have an anchor, you know that they'd be in trouble. 00:09:54.518 --> 00:09:56.417 And so why do we need an anchor? 00:09:56.417 --> 00:09:59.219 Number one, to keep your life from being shipwrecked. 00:09:59.219 --> 00:10:09.280 And so, just because you know an anchor doesn't stop the storm but it'll keep you strong, it'll keep you secure during the storm. 00:10:09.280 --> 00:10:11.456 And so our hope is always in Jesus. 00:10:11.456 --> 00:10:15.057 Without Him our life would be shipwrecked, right? 00:10:15.057 --> 00:10:22.760 And so Psalm 27, 13 and 14 said says I would have lost heart unless I had believed. 00:10:22.760 --> 00:10:32.054 Let me read that again I would have lost heart unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. 00:10:32.054 --> 00:10:38.719 Wait on the Lord, be of good courage and he shall strengthen your heart. 00:10:38.719 --> 00:10:41.216 And wait, I say on the Lord. 00:10:41.216 --> 00:10:46.332 And so here I mean, you know, why do we need an anchor? Anyways, it's a cute little, just kind of videos that people you know in the world we live in and sometimes your feed through Instagram and social media can be you can get bogged down with seeing all kinds of really the world we live in, you know, with guns and police and just like. 00:11:26.860 --> 00:11:28.616 Sometimes I don't wanna see those videos. 00:11:28.616 --> 00:11:34.437 Like I know, like it's good to be informed and you have to know what's going on. 00:11:34.437 --> 00:11:56.451 But then sometimes I wanna watch kind videos like hey, you know what, there are nice people out there, there are Christian people out there, there are people out there just doing good, and so through my Instagram feed so I like this because sometimes it'll come across and just cute little videos of a kid, you know, just doing a kind deed or the FedEx guy you know there was this. 00:11:56.451 --> 00:12:04.173 Sometimes people have these, you know, video surveillance things on the front of their door and there was the video of the FedEx guy. 00:12:04.173 --> 00:12:11.716 He just brought in the trashcan for the person you know and it showed him bringing in the trash, just kind deeds, you know, and I think that is so good. 00:12:11.950 --> 00:12:24.557 I just like watching those videos, but not too long ago they posted, so sometimes they'll post like history stuff, and I like it, I like to learn new things, and so they have posted this picture of this girl. 00:12:24.557 --> 00:12:42.581 It looked like she was, you know, in water in the jungle, so I clicked on her name and I kind of read about her, and so she was a survivor of a plane crash that went down in the early 1970s and she was. 00:12:42.581 --> 00:13:04.969 So the plane was carrying about 90-something people and she was 17 years old at that time and she was flying, I believe, in Peru, over the Amazon jungle, and there was a lightning strike on the plane, and so the plane went down and she was buckled to her seat. 00:13:04.969 --> 00:13:17.139 So she went down and survived, still buckled to her seat, like through the trees and the jungle, and then she survived. 00:13:17.139 --> 00:13:25.851 So she was the only survivor off on the plane, and so she was in the jungle and I didn't read her. 00:13:25.871 --> 00:13:32.870 She has a book and they've done documentaries and I think there's a movie, but I just read 00:13:42.769 --> 00:13:54.028 And so I was just fascinated, that one little chapter that I read, and she, you know she, on one of the little she said, you know she didn't know if her mom was alive or not. 00:13:54.028 --> 00:14:00.928 She was like where you know, I wonder, you know she was, she's like I kept thinking about my mom, you know, I wonder where she's at. 00:14:00.928 --> 00:14:04.340 she kept on, she kept pushing. 00:14:58.000 --> 00:14:59.063 She's like I can't stop. 00:14:59.063 --> 00:15:05.826 I got to go, I got to, you know, I got to find, you know, my dad told me, you know, just go along the river because there might be civilization. 00:15:05.826 --> 00:15:07.846 And anyway she made it. 00:15:07.846 --> 00:15:12.708 Somebody found her, um, but I was just like man, she, she didn't lose hope. 00:15:12.708 --> 00:15:27.899 When you know, all everything was stacked up against her, um, and even at like night, she and her, and her in that chapter was reading she's like, to go with the flow sometimes, but if the Holy ghost doesn't want you to go with the flow, you got to stay connected to a church. 00:16:04.341 --> 00:16:07.094 You got to stay connected to a local pastor. 00:16:07.094 --> 00:16:07.817 You know, have a pastor. 00:16:07.817 --> 00:16:17.317 You got to stay connected, even when times are tough and difficult and it's prickly and and you don't get words are like honey, sweet to the soul and healthy for the body, in that good. 00:18:29.267 --> 00:18:44.383 Parvus 18, for a person's words can be life-giving water, words of true wisdom are as refreshing as a bubbling brook, and so what we say has a lot to do. 00:18:44.383 --> 00:18:52.407 You know it has a lot to do with what you know we're walking through like, yes, trials, tribulations, anchor but don't secure the line, it won't do you any good. 00:19:28.972 --> 00:19:36.156 You can throw out an anchor all day long, and but if it's not connected to anything, what are you doing? 00:19:36.156 --> 00:19:45.163 Like the boat's still gonna go adrift, right, and so not obeying God's word is like turning loose of that rope. 00:19:45.163 --> 00:19:50.478 And so we, when we hear the word, faith comes. 00:19:50.478 --> 00:19:54.951 But then there's this next step, or you know what I have to do something about that? 00:19:54.951 --> 00:20:02.040 I heard the word, but then now comes 00:20:57.045 It wasn't, we were drifting away from the boat, like I don't know if we were drifting or the boat was drifting and maybe the anchor didn't Didn't, you know, go all the way down, maybe it 00:21:40.644 And so here, paul is focused on the future. 00:21:40.644 --> 00:21:55.654 He's not focused on what's in the past, and he had a past, saul, but he's, he's like hey, this one thing I do,
