today and it's just fresh and I just thought we would look. 00:00:57.353 --> 00:01:16.079 And tonight I want to talk about the power of the New Covenant, the power of the New Covenant, and I want to take us back into Genesis 22, when God fully executed the Old Covenant, which is a type and shadow of what we have in the new. 00:01:16.079 --> 00:01:19.528 The Old had to happen so that we could have the new. 00:01:19.528 --> 00:01:22.036 So let's just look at. 00:01:22.036 --> 00:01:27.120 Instead of reading all of it, I'm going to kind of read and teach it as we go, line upon line. 00:01:27.120 a test, a temptation, and you might say well, I thought God wasn't supposed to tempt us. 00:02:54.896 --> 00:03:07.911 Well, the, the new covenant had, it depended on obedience of this right here, that there had to be a sacrifice for that old covenant to to be ratified. 00:03:07.911 --> 00:03:16.097 And so he told him where to take him and and to to the land of Moriah and offer him there for a burnt sacrifice. 00:03:16.097 --> 00:03:20.471 So that meant he had to kill him first, and then he was going to burn his body on a pile of wood. 00:03:21.854 --> 00:03:34.794 So, in verse three, abraham rose up early in the morning and saddled his donkey, took two of his young men with him and Isaac, his son, and he chopped the wood and prepared the wood for the burnt offering. 00:03:34.794 --> 00:03:39.768 And he rose up and he went unto the place of which God had told him. 00:03:39.768 --> 00:03:42.395 Now look at this one here, verse four. 00:03:42.395 --> 00:03:48.592 Then, on the And I've heard preachers say you just imagine how hard, horrible this was and what a terrible thing it must have been, how he must have wept all the way there for three days. 00:04:33.853 --> here in Hebrews. 00:05:33.716 --> 00:05:51.675 And he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, of whom it was said that in Isaac shall by seed, be called Accounting that God was able to raise him up even from the dead. 00:05:51.675 --> 00:05:55.920 From whence also he received him in a figure. 00:05:55.920 --> 00:06:12.137 We're gonna keep reading and we're gonna find out that he, before he could plunge the knife in, god stopped him and he took his son off of the pile of wood and untidy, and that's when he received him alive. 00:06:12.137 --> 00:06:15.276 But he did that in his faith for three days. 00:06:15.276 --> 00:06:27.637 So that three days you could just basically because of his attitude of faith, when he looked up and he saw in the distance after three days, the place where the sacrifice was gonna be, that's the place of resurrection. 00:06:27.637 --> 00:06:32.814 So Jesus was dead for three days in the grave and risen from the dead. 00:06:33.151 --> 00:06:44.213 Isaac was dead three days, risen from the dead and then, on the third day, types and shadows, folks, that's what's necessary for the covenant to be perfected as you've got to. happen for him to believe that God was going to raise him for the dead. 00:08:54.914 --> 00:09:00.034 First of all, he's going to kill him and his weapon of choice was a knife. 00:09:00.034 --> 00:09:06.083 So he's going to plunge the knife into his son's heart and then he's going to lay dead and bleeding on this pile of wood. 00:09:06.083 --> 00:09:12.174 He's going to light this pile of wood and he's going to burn his son's body on that pile of wood until it's a sacrifice. 00:09:12.174 --> 00:09:17.022 And then God's going to raise him from the dead, and I mean this man doesn't doubt it. 00:09:17.022 --> 00:09:22.378 I mean he's saying to the boys hey, y'all wait here, we're going to be in the ladder, be back, we're coming back. 00:09:23.514 --> 00:09:30.601 So he took the wood of the burn offering and allowed Isaac to carry it, and he took the fire in his hand. 00:09:30.601 --> 00:09:31.445 See what does that mean? 00:09:31.445 --> 00:09:33.001 Well, they had to eat on the camp. 00:09:33.001 --> 00:09:38.644 They camped for three days on the way to the place, and so they had to have fire back in those days. 00:09:38.644 --> 00:09:40.522 You didn't start a fire from scratch. 00:09:40.522 --> 00:09:43.082 I mean, that took a lot of work, you know. 00:09:43.082 --> 00:09:55.557 So once you got a fire burning, you kept it burning and you carried it with you, you carried the embers, you carried something that that was heat so that you could lay it down in the next place, and and a lot of fire for fairly shortly. 00:09:55.557 --> 00:10:00.197 So they kept that fire burning that they used on the camp and here. 00:10:00.259 --> 00:10:03.716 So he carried the fire in his hand and he carried a knife. 00:10:03.716 --> 00:10:14.140 The fire stands for the Holy Ghost, the knife stands for the Word of God, the Word and the Spirit, that Glory to God. 00:10:14.140 --> 00:10:25.317 You had to have the Word and the Spirit to execute this covenant, this power of the new covenant, which was totally linked to the old covenant. 00:10:25.317 --> 00:10:39.183 And so he took the fire in his hand, the Holy Ghost, he took the knife, the word, and they went, both of knife glittering in the morning sun. 00:12:50.277 --> 00:13:04.985 He took the knife to slay his son and the angel of the Lord called out of him, called unto him out of heaven, and said Abraham, it says the angel of the Lord, oftentimes. 00:13:28.467 --> 00:13:34.682 There was another time when the angel of the Lord appeared to Abraham and Sarah in the heat of the day. 00:13:34.682 --> 00:13:36.246 And it wasn't an angel, it was Jesus. 00:13:36.246 --> 00:13:41.250 It was Jesus in his pre-incarnate form. 00:13:41.250 --> 00:13:44.659 He had not yet been born of the virgin. by his horns. 00:14:54.202 --> 00:15:07.169 There's the sacrifice, a ram caught in the thicket, and Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. 00:15:07.169 --> 00:15:10.606 So here you had the substitute. 00:15:10.606 --> 00:15:28.085 So you had the substitute for Isaac, but in Isaac's faith excuse me, in Abraham's faith he actually heifer, and then he killed the heifer and God's glory went, like the infinity sign figure of eight, through the, through the pieces that he divided. 00:19:03.230 --> 00:19:11.619 God did all his parts, but there needed to be a point of obedience, where, where he would not withhold his son. 00:19:11.619 --> 00:19:19.625 See, that's covenant God required of him, as a covenant partner, to sacrifice his only son. 00:19:19.625 --> 00:19:22.289 See, that was, I mean you. 00:19:22.289 --> 00:19:27.369 If he hadn't done that, you'd never know if Abraham was really a solid person. things, but the hardest thing, really the hardest thing of all, is to have Jesus die for the sins of the whole world. 00:19:40.191 --> 00:19:44.039 And for that to happen, there had to be a type and shadow of that sacrifice. 00:19:44.039 --> 00:19:47.770 There had to be an equal and a great loss. 00:19:47.770 --> 00:19:51.843 There had to be a great loss by the other covenant partner, which was
