00:05:07.822 --> 00:05:23.208 The soul, okay, Now, sometimes people will refer to the soul as a person, but it's really only a part of the person, because 1 Thessalonians 5.23 talks about how your, may, your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved, blameless. 00:05:23.208 --> 00:05:24.992 So it breaks it up, right, so we know that. 00:05:24.992 --> 00:05:30.502 And so just to clarify, because I don't know everybody in the room, so just get us all on the same page. 00:05:30.502 --> 00:05:35.473 And so, before salvation, our body contained our soul with an empty spirit. 00:05:35.473 --> 00:05:38.505 And then, after salvation, what happened? 00:05:38.505 --> 00:05:41.980 Jesus made our heart his home, right, he came and filled that space. 00:05:41.980 --> 00:05:47.153 But we've had our soul since the very beginning, our mind, our will, our emotions, right. 00:05:47.673 --> 00:05:51.541 And so the Greek New Testament I gave you the definition in Hebrew. 00:05:51.541 --> 00:06:03.552 But the Greek says the soul is the seed of the senses, the desires, the affections, the appetites, the passions, the lower aspect of a person's nature, which would include their mind. 00:06:03.552 --> 00:06:07.728 And that's how we get the definition that the soul is your mind, your will and your emotions. 00:06:07.728 --> 00:06:11.341 Okay, now I'm just to bring these together. 00:06:11.341 --> 00:06:13.305 So I like Greek words. 00:06:13.305 --> 00:06:17.620 So in the Greek the soul is the word psuche, I think that's how you say it. 00:06:17.620 --> 00:06:19.725 And then the spirit is pneuma. 00:06:19.725 --> 00:06:23.370 So when we bring these together is how we actually get the word heart. 00:06:23.370 --> 00:06:25.175 It's the two combined. 00:06:25.480 --> 00:06:26.646 And let me read this verse to you. 00:06:26.646 --> 00:06:28.064 You know it, in Hebrews 4.12,. 00:06:28.064 --> 00:06:33.952 It says For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword piercing to the division. 00:06:33.952 --> 00:06:45.411 Okay, everybody say division, not mingling, but the division of the soul and the spirit, okay, that's important Of joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 00:06:45.411 --> 00:06:54.163 So that's when they're both brought together in the heart of man, and God wants both parts whole. 00:06:54.163 --> 00:06:54.865 He wants all of you to be whole. 00:06:54.884 --> 00:06:58.293 Ok, and so too, too often we mingle our soul and our spirit. 00:06:58.293 --> 00:07:02.605 We mingle those things and we kind of just act like that that they work together. 00:07:02.605 --> 00:07:07.973 And they should work together in the form of the heart, when it's a whole person, when God is there, working in our heart. 00:07:07.973 --> 00:07:16.221 But when I'm talking about mingling it, when it shouldn't be, is we don't let the word come in and show us hey, that's flesh, this is me. 00:07:16.221 --> 00:07:17.404 Do you see what I'm saying? 00:07:17.404 --> 00:07:29.307 And so we want the Holy Spirit, through the word of God, to show us these things so that we can have full healing, because our spirit should always listen, our spirit should always be master over our soul. 00:07:29.307 --> 00:07:30.701 Okay, that's why we need to know the difference. 00:07:30.701 --> 00:07:33.774 If they're mingled, then sometimes we can't tell the difference. 00:07:33.774 --> 00:07:37.305 But the spirit should always be master over the soul. 00:07:37.305 --> 00:07:40.341 We don't want to be yielded to the flesh, we want to be yielded to the spirit of God. 00:07:40.341 --> 00:07:43.507 Amen, okay, so here's, here's what I've learned. 00:07:43.507 --> 00:07:48.283 The soul dictates a lot of our life, a lot more than it should. 00:07:48.283 --> 00:07:49.886 This is just true in humanity. 00:07:49.886 --> 00:07:52.290 Okay, so, and and and. 00:07:52.290 --> 00:07:55.024 The word of God knows that, right, god knows all things. 00:07:55.024 --> 00:07:56.408 Let me just give you a few references. 00:07:56.408 --> 00:07:58.201 It's going to surprise you, uh. 00:07:58.262 --> 00:08:01.468 Genesis 42, 21 speaks of anguish of his soul. 00:08:01.468 --> 00:08:08.038 Leviticus 16, 29, 16, 31, 23, 27 talks about afflict your own soul. 00:08:08.038 --> 00:08:11.387 Numbers 16, 38, men sinned against their own soul. 00:08:11.387 --> 00:08:14.800 Numbers 21, 4, the soul of the people became very discouraged. 00:08:14.800 --> 00:08:17.908 Psalm 6, 3, my soul is greatly troubled. 00:08:17.908 --> 00:08:21.053 Psalm 41, 4, lord, be merciful and heal my soul. 00:08:21.220 --> 00:08:23.745 And in the New Testament, matthew 11, 29,. 00:08:23.745 --> 00:08:26.980 Jesus said take my yoke, you know the rest of it. 00:08:26.980 --> 00:08:30.869 And he says and find rest for your soul, right, okay. 00:08:30.869 --> 00:08:37.008 Matthew 26, 38, jesus in the garden said my soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even unto death. 00:08:37.008 --> 00:08:40.062 So he recognized that part of himself, right. 00:08:40.062 --> 00:08:45.413 And in second Corinthians, one eight, paul said they were utterly burdened and despaired of life. 00:08:45.413 --> 00:08:49.591 That's also a reference of his soul, his mind, his will, his emotions. 00:08:49.591 --> 00:08:55.251 In Romans 2.9, it says there will be tribulation and distress on every soul that does evil. 00:08:55.251 --> 00:08:57.668 Well, what that's talking about is cause and effect. 00:08:57.668 --> 00:09:07.082 When we're participating in things that are ungodly or not of God would be a better way to say that then there's an effect, right, and it causes anguish of soul. 00:09:07.082 --> 00:09:12.433 But Hebrews 6, 19 says this hope we have as an anchor of the soul. 00:09:12.433 --> 00:09:19.000 Praise God, I was on the plane today and I put my ear pods on because I just like to do that when I'm flying. 00:09:19.039 --> 00:09:24.043 I don't have to hear anything else, and I put it on shuffle, all songs, and you know it'll pull up. 00:09:24.043 --> 00:09:25.706 I have years of songs. 00:09:25.706 --> 00:09:27.307 Anybody remember the song Anchor? 00:09:39.235 --> 00:09:49.688 And then Hebrews 12, three consider him who endured such hostility from sinners against himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your soul. 00:09:49.688 --> 00:09:51.052 All right, so this, so all of that. 00:09:51.052 --> 00:09:52.642 I'm not trying to have a downer message. 00:09:52.642 --> 00:09:59.260 I wanted to share all of that to get to this one verse in Psalm 23 that you're all familiar with. 00:09:59.260 --> 00:10:04.448 But verse three says what he restores our soul. 00:10:04.448 --> 00:10:06.552 The Lord is my shepherd. 00:10:06.552 --> 00:10:08.615 I shall not want right. 00:10:08.615 --> 00:10:09.096 How's it go? 00:10:09.096 --> 00:10:11.684 He makes me to lie down in green pastures. 00:10:11.684 --> 00:10:14.070 He leads me beside still waters. 00:10:14.070 --> 00:10:16.094 He restores my soul. 00:10:16.094 --> 00:10:23.263 Well, can we just say it this way, it wouldn't need to be restored unless it had been broken, unless it had been damaged. 00:10:23.583 --> 00:10:40.355 Okay, so let's talk about this word restore real quick, because this word in the Hebrew and we're talking about Old Testament it's a verb meaning to turn, to return, to go back to change, to bring back, to reestablish, to be returned to, and it's used over a thousand times in the Old Testament. 00:10:40.355 --> 00:10:40.977 You know why? 00:10:40.977 --> 00:10:44.105 Because there was an original right. 00:10:44.105 --> 00:10:46.993 God created the original and it was perfect. 00:10:46.993 --> 00:10:48.121 Everything was perfect. 00:10:48.121 --> 00:10:58.735 It got broken and then every every moment after that was a cry for restoration, until Jesus came, a cry restore us, lord, restore us. 00:10:58.735 --> 00:11:01.282 And so the image of man was broken. 00:11:01.282 --> 00:11:05.231 There was this constant cry because it was always a reminder of the fall. 00:11:05.231 --> 00:11:06.482 There was something in them. 00:11:06.482 --> 00:11:08.207 I found this interesting. 00:11:08.248 --> 00:11:17.664 The modern dictionary of the word restore means to bring back to a former, original or normal condition, and that tickled me a little bit because I thought what is normal? 00:11:17.664 --> 00:11:21.803 Well, I don't know about you, but normal to me is non-rollercoaster living. 00:11:21.803 --> 00:11:22.625 That would be normal. 00:11:22.625 --> 00:11:31.500 Let's just get there, right, and then go up from there, okay, but the truth is, our soul would not need to be restored unless it had been damaged. 00:11:31.500 --> 00:11:35.734 So this has been my study Lord, help us find healing. 00:11:35.734 --> 00:11:38.842 Help the body of Christ, find healing from soul wounds. 00:11:38.863 --> 00:11:50.352 Okay, soul wounds I'm going to give you this definition is the result of our mind, will or emotions being so abruptly jolted that a wound is made upon the soul, leaving a scar that must be dealt with. 00:11:50.352 --> 00:11:51.215 Now, how does that happen? 00:11:51.215 --> 00:11:54.826 It can be a broken relationship, it could be death, it could be betrayal. 00:11:54.826 --> 00:12:07.465 There's so many different ways that your mind, your will, your emotions can be jarred right, and so the question is not how did the soul wounds come? 00:12:07.465 --> 00:12:08.506 But how do we find healing from the soul wounds? 00:12:08.506 --> 00:12:08.707 Okay, how? 00:12:08.707 --> 00:12:09.549 So how do we deal with them? 00:12:09.549 --> 00:12:20.653 So I want to give you five things that, as I just prayed and saw it, god on, I began to see this pattern of things that were so helpful, things that I have actually walked through myself. 00:12:20.653 --> 00:12:21.899 So I'm a living testimony. 00:12:21.899 --> 00:12:23.784 I bet some of you are as well. 00:12:23.784 --> 00:12:25.640 But number one I want to go with here. 00:12:25.640 --> 00:12:28.086 First, jesus defeated Satan on all three levels. 00:12:28.086 --> 00:12:31.124 That's the first thing you need to know to find soul healing. 00:12:31.124 --> 00:12:34.231 You have to know that he defeated Satan on all three levels. 00:12:34.272 --> 00:12:35.663 Let's look at Matthew, chapter four. 00:12:35.663 --> 00:12:36.986 You know this story. 00:12:36.986 --> 00:12:41.841 This is when Jesus was taken by the spirit into the wilderness. 00:12:41.841 --> 00:12:47.251 Mark, I'm sorry, I went to Mark, it's Matthew, matthew, chapter four, in verse one, and we're just going to. 00:12:47.251 --> 00:12:52.630 We're going to read all of this little section, but I'm going to break it up as we go, so let's just read one through four. 00:12:53.120 --> 00:12:57.672 It says then Jesus was led up by the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 00:12:57.672 --> 00:13:01.147 After he had fasted 40 days and 40 nights, he was hungry. 00:13:01.147 --> 00:13:06.744 Then the tempter approached him and said if you are the son of God, tell these stones to become bread. 00:13:06.744 --> 00:13:13.365 And he answered it is written man must not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. 00:13:13.365 --> 00:13:15.510 So here here is Satan. 00:13:15.510 --> 00:13:18.261 He's tempting Jesus and this is interesting. 00:13:18.261 --> 00:13:23.470 What he uses, um, when he, when he tells him, man, you know, uh, tell these stones to become bread. 00:13:23.811 --> 00:13:25.634 He was leaning on the story. 00:13:25.634 --> 00:13:27.986 I think we could borrow it anyway. 00:13:27.986 --> 00:13:32.201 He was leaning on the story of Esau, because Esau was tested with food and failed. 00:13:32.201 --> 00:13:33.202 Is that right? 00:13:33.202 --> 00:13:37.613 Okay, but Jesus broke the power of craving just by his response. 00:13:37.613 --> 00:13:41.688 He's like, no, he's like man shall not live on bread alone. 00:13:41.688 --> 00:13:43.712 He didn't fall for that temptation, okay. 00:13:43.712 --> 00:13:47.423 And so he defeated Satan in the realm of the body. 00:13:47.423 --> 00:13:49.833 And so that means you and I actually can too. 00:13:49.833 --> 00:13:50.535 We don't. 00:13:50.535 --> 00:13:55.870 We don't have to let this body dictate everything that we do or or much of our lives, okay. 00:13:56.350 --> 00:13:58.520 Then he moves on and Satan tries to get him in there. 00:13:58.520 --> 00:14:01.785 Okay, that didn't work, let's move over into the realm of the soul. 00:14:01.785 --> 00:14:03.307 And so look at verse five. 00:14:03.307 --> 00:14:18.618 Then the devil took him to the holy city, had him stand on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him if you are the son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written he will give his angels orders concerning you and they will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 00:14:18.618 --> 00:14:22.481 And Jesus told him it is also written do not test the Lord, your God. 00:14:22.481 --> 00:14:24.222 And so, through that now Also written do not test the Lord, your God. 00:14:24.222 --> 00:14:24.543 And so through. 00:14:24.543 --> 00:14:25.344 Now this is crazy. 00:14:25.384 --> 00:14:31.629 But through the power of suggestion, he's actually encouraging Jesus to commit suicide. 00:14:31.629 --> 00:14:31.889 That's it. 00:14:31.889 --> 00:14:33.650 Just throw yourself off. 00:14:33.650 --> 00:14:35.331 I think somebody will catch you. 00:14:35.331 --> 00:14:39.014 Right, it's a trick, but he's like just throw yourself off. 00:14:39.014 --> 00:14:41.557 How many times has that little voice sat on people's shoulders. 00:14:41.557 --> 00:14:42.241 Just do it. 00:14:42.241 --> 00:14:44.601 Just drive your car into that tree, just throw yourself off. 00:14:44.601 --> 00:14:46.466 That is a lie of the enemy. 00:14:46.466 --> 00:14:47.548 But what is he doing? 00:14:47.548 --> 00:14:52.748 He's he's trying to attack the soul, the mind, will and emotion of a person. 00:14:52.748 --> 00:14:56.740 And Jesus answered him right, jesus didn't entertain those thoughts. 00:14:56.740 --> 00:14:59.282 He said you shall not tempt the Lord, your God. 00:14:59.282 --> 00:15:03.385 And so he in with his words, again with the word of God, it wins. 00:15:03.446 --> 00:15:06.488 Every time he defeated Satan in the realm of the soul. 00:15:06.488 --> 00:15:09.610 So then Satan tries to go to the spirit. 00:15:09.610 --> 00:15:11.491 Remember, we're spirit, soul and body. 00:15:11.491 --> 00:15:17.756 So then, in verse eight, again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 00:15:17.756 --> 00:15:23.743 And he said to him I will give you all these things if you will fall down and worship me. 00:15:23.743 --> 00:15:27.229 And Jesus told him go away, satan, for it is written worship the Lord, god and serve only him. 00:15:27.229 --> 00:15:28.951 Now, why was this the spirit? 00:15:28.951 --> 00:15:33.927 Because Satan tried to get Jesus to change his allegiance right. 00:15:33.927 --> 00:15:35.009 Where's our allegiance? 00:15:35.009 --> 00:15:35.990 It's in our spirit. 00:15:35.990 --> 00:15:37.234 We are born again. 00:15:37.234 --> 00:15:42.292 We have the spirit of almighty God on the inside of us and our allegiance is to our father. 00:15:42.292 --> 00:15:43.804 We're just passing through. 00:15:43.804 --> 00:15:46.163 This is not our home, this is not where we're staying. 00:15:46.163 --> 00:15:50.639 We're going on Right, and so our allegiance is to another kingdom. 00:15:50.639 --> 00:15:57.284 And he was trying to get Jesus to commit treason through distraction, through desire, through a need for popularity. 00:15:57.284 --> 00:16:03.684 Right, he's trying to get him to change his allegiance, but Jesus once again defeated Satan in the final round. 00:16:04.005 --> 00:16:07.533 Now, all of that, we could probably take time and teach on all that, but I want to go somewhere else. 00:16:07.533 --> 00:16:12.251 But the reason I say all that is to get you to verse 11, because what is verse 11?
