David ‘Lobie’ Daughton is a Senior Partner at Healthy Community Partners. He has worked as the principal co-operative developer in PEI and NB, helping to form dozens of new co-operatives and assisting many established co-ops. From 2005 to 2011, David served as a community researcher in the “Atlantic Social Economy & Sustainability Research Network” Community University Research Alliance (CURA), also working on the evaluation team, and contributing to a chapter of the CURA’s book. Daughton was the founding President of Canada’s “CoopZone Developers’ Network Co-op” where he helped develop curriculum for Canada’s first distance education course for Co-op Developers. He also played a lead role in establishing the Community Sector Network of PEI and was elected as the President at their founding Annual General Meeting in 2019.
As a food activist, David has run restaurants and food businesses in the UK, the USA and Canada, taught cooking classes, researched food security, and has cooked for celebrities from ABBA to Zappa, and from Michio Kushi to Benji the Dog. He also swims any time of year - as long as he can find space in through the ice.
I believe that when most people think of housing, they think of renting or buying for themselves, but what about co-ops?
