Tease And Weekend Setup
SPEAKER_09Here's what to expect on this week's episode of the River Morning Show weekly podcast. This one I think they're not gonna be super impressed with Josh. What? They call it the healthy huddle. It's just, you know, right after New Year's, people have made resolutions. So Greek yogurt instead of what is it, cream cheese and buffalo chicken dip.
Food, Sports, And Olympic Overflow
SPEAKER_07I'm not satisfied unless several animals have given their life for my meal. Oh my goodness. Thanks for listening to this podcast. You can, of course, find more when you click on demand at riveradio.com. It is nearly a guarantee, and there's not a lot in life that's a guarantee, but it is nearly a guarantee you're gonna have to wheel both Hannah and I into this studio on Monday. We have talked about so much food, so much sports, so much of all of that because of the Olympics and because of the Super Bowl.
SPEAKER_09All the good stuff in one weekend.
SPEAKER_07The problem is when I start sweating grease and oil.
SPEAKER_09Is that a problem or is it worth the sacrifice?
SPEAKER_07Maybe.
SPEAKER_09You can be a completely reasonable human being. And then suddenly your body is like, no. Today, you are a person who deeply needs pickles and ice cream. Logic is gone.
SPEAKER_07What happened?
SPEAKER_09Disney is optional. I don't know. Pregnancy cravings are weird. Uh-huh. Now, I haven't had that one yet, but if you or someone you know have been through this, I would love to hear the strangest or funniest pregnancy cravings you've seen.
SPEAKER_07My wife, pickles and mayo.
SPEAKER_09Well, I mean, that belongs on a sandwich.
SPEAKER_07Just that.
SPEAKER_08I don't feel good about that.
Call For Wild Pregnancy Cravings
SPEAKER_09Don't feel good about that. But you can share yours, 800-609-1049. You can call or a text. Josh, you already know this. My entire existence right now revolves around where in the world is the nearest bagel. I have to know there is a bagel within 60 seconds of my person at all times.
SPEAKER_07This explains so much of the last six weeks of your existence.
SPEAKER_09Because pre-pregnancy, you've never seen me eat a bagel.
SPEAKER_07No, all I hear early in the morning before the show is just this Hannah is over there hammering this bread product.
SPEAKER_09Breakfast, blueberry bagel. Lunch, cinnamon swirl bagel, dinner, everything bagel. They're in my desk at work. My pantry at home is overflowing because every time I go to the store, I have this intense panic. That what if, what if I get home and the bagels decided to just roll on out of the house.
SPEAKER_07Well, your husband has been known to hammer a few things from the pantry.
Bagel Obsession Takes Over
SPEAKER_09He's so snaggy.
SPEAKER_07And that's fine. Chris, if you listen to, that's fine. But I have to buy more bagels. Mama needs a bagel.
SPEAKER_09I have four bags of bagels in my pantry right now. What kind of beer?
SPEAKER_07What kind of toppings go on your craving bagels?
SPEAKER_09Well, that's what's crazy, is like, and I probably would have done this pre-pregnancy, but I love a sweet cream cheese on a savory bagel. Okay. Or the opposite. So I want a sweet and salty experience from the bagel. So if it's an everything bagel, I want strawberry cream cheese. That doesn't bother me in the slightest. If it's a cinnamon swirl bagel, like a honey nut, or I'm not a big fan of like the veggie cream cheeses.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, no, that's ridiculous.
SPEAKER_09That's not my thing. So they all lean a little sweet. The one thing that is sweet on sweet that I found is if you do a blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese, I mean, okay, it kind of tastes like, oh, and the uh fruity pebbles. That's what I almost arrived. It kind of tastes like fruity pebbles.
SPEAKER_07Okay, I think I might be in for that.
SPEAKER_09I know. So I just have to say, if you see me in the next week or so and think, oh, she's showing she's got a little baby bump. No, no, it's a bagel bump. Pregnancy cravings are just so wild and so funny to me. And I don't even have like an absurd one yet, but bagels just have become my personality.
SPEAKER_07Thank you're lucky stars because some people need wasabi peas.
SPEAKER_09I cannot imagine. It's early, so who knows what's to come. But right now, I'm surprised I just haven't turned into a bagel roll myself. Just the amount of bagels I'm eating, and it's cinnamon swirl, strawberry, everything bagels with whatever cream cheese is nearest.
Sweet Meets Savory Bagel Combos
SPEAKER_07I like me a good bread product, and this has been tough having you just enjoying these every single day. And I'm like, I don't have any bagels. I don't need to be eating any bagels.
SPEAKER_09I know, look, I don't need to be look, this is not baby weight. This is bagel weight.
SPEAKER_07So I love that so much.
SPEAKER_09I'm not thrilled about that.
SPEAKER_07And I also it just hits the spot. When you start talking about that, I will back away.
SPEAKER_09Saying anything.
SPEAKER_07That is a wise man.
SPEAKER_09But it just got me thinking, I love hearing the different pregnancy cravings that you have gone through or someone you know has gone through. So some friends have already shared via text, but would love to hear from you. 800-609-1049. Producer Mike, what are some friends saying?
SPEAKER_05Lisa said I craved any potato products. Yes. I ended up opening a bag and eating potato chips while grocery shopping.
SPEAKER_09I almost did that with a box of cheese. It's the other day. Wow. But then I withheld, got it home, and then didn't want it anymore. That's how quickly these can come and go. My goodness.
SPEAKER_05Wow. Tammy in Grove City said I craved Reese's cups, like especially the egg ones. Uh-huh. And then also Donato's extra cheese pizza.
SPEAKER_09My goodness. That does sound good.
SPEAKER_05You guys.
SPEAKER_09That sounds really good.
SPEAKER_05She said, my pastor said, what you crave during pregnancy will be something your child loves. And my son does, in fact, love Reese's cups and a Donato's pizza.
SPEAKER_09Well, that means for life, we will have bagels in my home. Here's the thing. Forget about all that. I'm pregnant.
SPEAKER_07Like I if those are the things you crave, pregnant. No.
SPEAKER_09It's like these cravings are just another level. Like, of course, everyone, like, there's not many people who don't like bagels and cheese pizza and Reese's cups. Yeah. But it becomes like this need. This, like, if you don't give me this bagel in the next 20 seconds, go through you together. I will throw this laptop. Like, it's just gonna happen. But you can call and share what is that pregnancy craving that you or someone you know had. 800-609-1049. Rose, what's that for you?
Listener Cravings And Rapid Shifts
SPEAKER_07Uh well, my daughter-in-law is pregnant, and um, we were at Dairy Cream the other day, and she was dipping her French fries in her um, I think it was a peanut butter cup blizzard.
SPEAKER_09Amen. My son just looked at her like she was totally off.
SPEAKER_07Listen, that's not a pregnancy craving, that's America.
SPEAKER_09No, that sounds so good. Oh, Rose, I know what I'm having for dinner tonight. You've seen the usual good stuff at Super Bowl parties. The wings, the chips, the dips, the pizza. I can go on and on. Get in my ballet! It's so good. But what if you did something totally different?
SPEAKER_07Why are you messing with perfection, Hannah?
SPEAKER_09Well, it's not me. I just found out my husband's cousins are doing something unique this year. They're hosting a sou herbal party.
SPEAKER_07No. So the food is a pun!
SPEAKER_09Bowls of soup. Bowls of soup. So everyone who comes is supposed to bring a different type of soup for people to enjoy, which on these terribly freezing cold Ohio days does kind of sound nice, but I hope for everyone attending's sake that you still get the buffalo chicken dip.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, well, and all that. You know, you could be sure of that.
SPEAKER_09Well, here's the thing the Super Bowl's past my bedtime. So I think I'm gonna be watching from home this year, but I can't wait for them to tell me all the different soups. Okay. I know. It's past my bedtime.
Fries In Blizzard And America
SPEAKER_07Maybe I'll send some. I forgot in some of these qu these conversations. Hannah's an old lady.
SPEAKER_09I will be watching in my PJs. Look, here's the thing. This is off topic.
SPEAKER_07Granny Hanny.
Super Bowl Party Traditions
SPEAKER_09My husband and I ordered all of our pizza insides last night. Oh my. To make sure we are not on like a two-hour waiting list. I am equal parts, impressed and appalled. I know. Look, I'm gonna get my onion ring some way or another. Anyway, I'm just curious if you've heard of, been to, or hosted a unique Super Bowl party. Something not just the normal size, whether it could be different games, it could be different themes. Call or text to share 800-609-1049. Like, have you heard of people having chili cook-offs at Super Bowl parties? I have not. Really? I feel like that was yeah, that was one that came up a lot throughout like my childhood, for example. Like my parents' friends would host something like that. Yeah. And then my my my cousin has done this before. They did the minute to win it games during half time. Oh, that's cool. And you see sometimes around the holidays, like how many uh blindfolded, how many cotton balls can you get on a plate? Things like that.
SPEAKER_07Is trying to get the Oreo from your forehead into your mouth.
SPEAKER_09Yes, that's one that shows up all the time. I'm good at that one. The pictures and videos of that, they will follow you for life.
SPEAKER_07Are you having a stroke?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, what is happening? This one I think you're not gonna be super impressed with, Josh. What? They call it, I saw this trend, the healthy huddle.
SPEAKER_07Look at the time. Gotta go. Uh there's music to play.
SPEAKER_09Well, it's just, you know, right after New Year's, people have made resolutions. So it's about, you know, and I feel like Haley from The Afternoon Show would love this because you bring classics, but you put a spin on them. So Greek yogurt instead of um what is it, cream cheese and buffalo chicken dip?
SPEAKER_07No.
SPEAKER_09Okay. Okay. So no fruit skewers or veggie trays for Josh.
Soup-Er Bowl And Early Bedtimes
SPEAKER_07Those are fine if they're there, but don't make that the theme. What's wrong with people? Don't you like fun? Like, come on. They're trying to keep to their resolution. I'm not satisfied unless several animals have given their life for my meal.
SPEAKER_09Oh my goodness. If you've heard of been to or hosted or a unique Super Bowl party, call or text to share. 800-609-1049. You know you're looking forward to that matchup of Buffalo Chicken Dip versus what is it, the seven-layer chip dip.
SPEAKER_07We will go to overtime. Which one would win for you? Buffalo chicken dip.
SPEAKER_09What I love the layered dip so much.
SPEAKER_07I love them both, but if I had to choose one, it would be the Buffalo Chicken Dip. I will say this. You didn't ask me this, but I will say that all I really want, all I really want if we're gonna have a seven-layer dip, uh-huh, is for that dip to be like outlined like the football field. You know, I just I want it to be.
SPEAKER_09But that does nothing with what? That has nothing to do with the taste. But you want it to look like a football field?
SPEAKER_07We instantly started talking about my dreams here, and that's what I want. Anyway, back to your conversation. Sorry, I just that's what I want. You can use the sour cream and make the hash lines, like it'd be great. All right, all right. Can you make that possible?
Party Themes And Games
SPEAKER_09No, I cannot make it. Those are some of the classics that you see at a Super Bowl party, but I'm curious if you've ever seen something unique, a little different to celebrate the Super Bowl. My husband's cousins are doing a okay, soup herbal party. Superbowl. You see what you did. So everyone brings a different kind of soup to share. Yeah. Uh shared earlier that some have done uh like chili cook-offs for the Super Bowl parties. Brilliant. Josh is really upset since I mentioned this thing called the healthy huddle, where you bring more like veggies and fruits because people are just finishing or starting their New Year's resolutions. Josh, he's eye-rolling right now.
SPEAKER_07I warned you to not mention this again. And here we are.
SPEAKER_09We are. But would love to hear some of the things you have come up with. You can call or text to Cher 800-609-1049. Producer Mike, anybody sharing?
SPEAKER_05Maddox said, I host a Super Bowl party where you go to the grocery store and you get like those ready-to-eat meals. Yeah. And then you heat them up.
SPEAKER_09That is way less cleanup on the front and back and forth. You're talking about nice.
SPEAKER_07Your Super Bowl date is a hungry man? Like, that's what that is? Like with a microwave brownie thing in the sides.
SPEAKER_09I'm not gonna lie. If somebody showed up with a stack of lunchables, those little pizza ones and the nacho ones.
SPEAKER_05That that's next level.
SPEAKER_09I wouldn't be mad.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. That'd be pretty awesome. That's okay. Shelly from Newark said, I've got young kids, so last year we did like a pajama party for the Super Bowl. Everybody came in their PJs, half the kids passed out by halftime. Perfect. And we could throw them in the car and straight to bed when we got home.
SPEAKER_07That's a really good idea. That's brilliant. Since you go to bed early like a small child or an old person, you could watch it in your jammies at the end. I will be.
SPEAKER_09Are you kidding me? That is the plan for sure. And if there happens to be a slice of pizza still like on me, it's fine. It's just fine.
SPEAKER_07You're literally the child in the high chair that's like just falling. I don't even care at the end of their point. Into their pudding.
SPEAKER_09Josh, have you seen any unique Super Bowl ideas?
SPEAKER_07I mean, not really. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_09Like it's it's I thought for sure you're Mr. Football. I think you have something.
SPEAKER_07But like I go to watch the game and watch the commercials and eat food while. So I'm I don't have a lot of time for theming.
SPEAKER_09Well, your theme this year is going to be to make a seven-layer dip looking like a football field. I Why can't you be the one to provide this?
SPEAKER_07I always say this to you, don't I? You have to be the one to fulfill your own uh food desires.
SPEAKER_09Make your dreams come true, Josh. Today's the day.
SPEAKER_07And it's been a minute or two uh since we checked in on producer Mike and his continued efforts to assimilate into Ohio to become one of us. Best of luck, sir. Uh so I do want to know though, how is it going? Because you are in the throes of winter. You've been here for months now. Like, how how are you feeling? What's up? Cold? Yeah. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Never until I moved here did I hear someone unironically say, I'm looking forward to the 30-degree weather.
SPEAKER_09Right. That's legit. That's real. But it's still very sad.
Buffalo Dip Versus Seven Layer
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that is not something I thought I would ever hear. Oh, here we are. Yeah. Yeah. Another thing is, why are there so many roundabouts here? You don't have them in Virginia? We had like maybe two in the entire city that I'm from. Yeah. And it's like a it's a solid-sized city. But here there's three within a mile.
SPEAKER_09That when I first started growing up in Columbus, there was not as many. It's happened in the last, I want to say, 10 to 15 years that they're just everywhere.
SPEAKER_07I remember the first time I when I started working here at the river. It's the first time I had ever seen one in real person, like in real life. I drove up to that and I went, what is this?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, people still can't figure them out. Yeah, time has not helped. I'm a pro now. I have to be. Okay, that's good.
SPEAKER_07We've got them back up at home in Mansfield now, which is weird. It's like Mansfield, we don't need roundabouts. But in here in Columbus, Dublin, Gehana, whatever.
SPEAKER_09They're everywhere.
SPEAKER_05Following you, Josh. That's fine, whatever. Another thing that I realized is that there's sometimes you've got to drive through like the middle of absolute nowhere on these country highways to find this restaurant that's like the only civilization anywhere close by, but the food is always amazing.
SPEAKER_09I'm trying to think of which restaurant, like grandpa's cheese barn or something.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, see, those are the best restaurants. Anything in Amish country. Yes. Yeah, it was so good. Yeah. We went to this place, me and some friends, called Iron Pony. Oh, sure. Yeah. It was good. I did not know it existed. It was in the middle of nowhere. You were franked it. You were going to drive off the edge of the earth, something like that.
SPEAKER_07These are classics. Producer Mike is not from here, but now he lives here, and we're trying to check and just make sure he's assimilating to Ohio life just fine. So all of these are good points.
More Unique Party Ideas
SPEAKER_05One great thing, though, about living in Ohio is that I can always count on Buckeyes to be at every church potluck and every family type. For sure, for sure. Because anytime you can count on peanut butter and chocolate being somewhere you are, that's a win. Just thinking. Just thinking.
SPEAKER_09I was just thinking. That's scary. Just thinking. The perfect job for me would be the person staining things for detergent commercials. You know?
SPEAKER_07In our family, we call that a peffle. It's on your shirt, it's a peffle.
SPEAKER_09Just thinking. You know you're getting old when you walk past the bathroom and think, well, I might as well pee while I'm here. I hate how real that is. Just thinking. Why does Amazon tell you, only two left in stock? Order now. You order now. You're the store. Just thinking. I really don't like brushing my teeth next to someone. Like who's who's gonna brush the longest? Who cares about their health more? Why am I so competitive?
Assimilating To Ohio Life
SPEAKER_07Whether you are excited about it or not, the Super Bowl is Sunday. Yes, it is. It's coming. Uh I love it. I'm in, but even if you don't love it and you're not in and you don't have a dog in the fight, uh, here are a few things that might help you choose who to root for.
SPEAKER_09Oh, okay, yeah, because I don't know.
SPEAKER_07For example, a good place to start when you talk football is former Buckeyes.
SPEAKER_09Love this?
SPEAKER_07Alright, so uh everybody probably is aware of Jackson Smith and Jigba. He was the best wide receiver in football this year. He plays for the Seattle Seahawks. So he's going up for a ring.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_07He's going against three former Buckeyes on the New England Patriots. You have running back Trevion Henderson, offensive lineman Thayer Munford Jr. Never heard of him, but great. Go Bucks. And head coach Mike Vrabel, former linebacker for Ohio State. So there's all of those. So those are the Buckeyes. But maybe, just maybe, you want to go a little like a little more important. If you want to go a little more uh meaningful than this, you can uh you can always go with the who loves Jesus on either side on either side of the gridiron, right?
SPEAKER_09But is that can you tell?
SPEAKER_07So what I mean is a lot of times when uh these athletes, it's a two-week break, people are asking them questions in interviews every single day, and somebody's always talking about their faith, and it's like, oh yeah, great, that's awesome. Like, what are they saying? Like, and you can see like their life actually uh lines up with that. Well, New England quarterback Drake May had a few things to say. And I don't again, I don't know him. This is not some ringing endorsement, but I like what he said here about how Jesus affects his life.
Roundabouts And Backroads Food
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I I try to take advantage of this platform that I've been given. You know, I was trying to chase, you know, trying to chase a passion in life and not having to turn out to be football, and knowing that there's always been a constant in my life, and that's been my faith. Anytime, you know, highs, lows, to talk and knowing I'm a relationship with the Lord and uh you know my follower of Jesus Christ is is the biggest thing in my life, and keeping that at number one, and uh knowing that that is you know what's got me here and what helps me get here and what I can shine light on to others and and knowing that you know leading them to a relationship with them or doing whatever I can to help lead them to to Jesus Christ and knowing that you know how their life can change.
SPEAKER_07You know, he doesn't just play football, he follows God. And I think that's the most important part. Now, again, there are believers on both sides, and so don't take this. I'm not trying to start a holy war. My goodness, I just realized what I might be doing.
SPEAKER_09No, I love that there are players who, like he said, is using his platform to share his faith and the impact God has made in his life because he has one of the, if not the biggest platform in the entire world this weekend.
Just Thinking: Quick Fire Bits
SPEAKER_07Yeah, did anyone care six months ago what Drake May thought about anything? Probably not, outside of New England fans, you know, on the East Coast, but now we get to hear what makes him tick. And it's the same thing that makes me tick. And so now there's a rooting interest as I'm stuffing my face with wings. I'm going, all right, help the believers act like believers today, Jesus. Yes. Yay, football. So, Hannah, what is the big game all about? Super Bowl is Sunday. What's it all about?
SPEAKER_09Buffalo Chicken Day.
SPEAKER_07I mean the actual game.
SPEAKER_09Becoming the champion?
SPEAKER_07Super Bowl champion? I love how you put the question mark on the end of the winning? Maybe winning it. So, yes, the game is all about a championship, these rings. You know, championship rings. Making history an incredible professional accomplishment, building and leaving a legacy as a player where entire fan bases will revere your name forever. That's what the football Super Bowl game is all about. But for some of the athletes, it is about something bigger. Some well, someone bigger, actually. It's about Jesus. And these guys are using their platform this week to shine his light.
SPEAKER_09That's amazing, and I love it.
SPEAKER_07Every chance they get, and you've seen them, I think a lot more athletes doing things like first, first, first. I want to I want to say thanks to Jesus. Thanks to God. And then they'll like go further, like, because Jesus died, like he did this, and they they talk about what he has done. The athletes, several of them playing in the Super Bowl, are no different. Listen to this.
SPEAKER_03Because he died off on the cross for our sins.
Picking A Team: Buckeyes And Faith
SPEAKER_02We may be struggling in shame and feeling over the things that we have done. He paid the price. He took one of our sins, he took one of the price.
SPEAKER_04Yo, my father of Jesus Christ is the biggest thing in my life and keeping that number one. And knowing that that is, you know, what's got me here.
SPEAKER_00God is love. And I separate my life into three things faith, family, and football. And number one is faith. So whenever you see me, it's a professional guy.
SPEAKER_03Jesus is everything to me. You know, he's that unshakable foundation. Why not Jesus, man? He's uh Lord and Savior, man. He done died on that cross for all of us, and you know, we didn't deserve it, but he did it anyway because he loved us.
SPEAKER_01Because, man, anything possible with him. You know, as long as you, you know, you got you got him in your life, you keep him first in everything you do, man. You can hey, you can do anything, man. The sky's the limit.
SPEAKER_07I love how you can have a relationship with God and call him the OG, you know? Yes, yeah. Or you can say stuff like, Why, why not Jesus? Uh-huh. He done died on the cross, you know, like all these things. Cause this is Jesus is our friend. You know, yes, we we have to honor and revere him, and we have to put him on the highest of pedestals, but he also is our buddy, you know, and he also likes football because he because he likes these guys. Yeah, you know, so uh be encouraged. This is how I feel after hearing that. Like, first of all, pray for these dudes and for their testimonies to shine bright this uh this final weekend of the season. And also, maybe for you and me, find the strength to share our faith too. Because why not Jesus? He done died on the cross for us, you know.
SPEAKER_09You can't deny it anymore. You are really having a baby. And when that finally connects, your mind starts racing, your heart grows, and suddenly every little thing feels more important than ever.
SPEAKER_07And also you start crying at random things.
Players Speak Openly About Jesus
SPEAKER_09It is so true. When you were expecting your first kiddo, when did it really sink in for you that a baby was on the way? You can call or text to share 800-609-1049. My husband Chris had this moment the other day, and I hadn't thought about how much harder it probably is for the dad to mentally prep and realize that a baby really is coming.
SPEAKER_07Because your wife doesn't look any different yet.
SPEAKER_09Right. And he didn't have the plague for the first 13 weeks. He didn't crave bagels and boycott all meat.
SPEAKER_07I will say, uh, one of the things for for me was when my wife had cravings, I also got what she had for craving.
SPEAKER_09Well, they're in the house, so that makes sense. That was real.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_09So for Chris, my husband, it just took him a little longer to really grasp that a baby is coming. And our our good friends recently sent us this our it was really our first baby gift. And it's this little sweater with the baby's name on it.
SPEAKER_08Aww.
SPEAKER_09And he was like, Oh shoot, this is really happening. Like, I'm watching him stare at this little sweater like okay, I'm gonna be a dad. He's processing it in real time. He just looked at me and goes, This is real. I'm like, Yeah, it is! Tell that's in the plague the last few weeks. Right. But it was really cute, and yeah, I was like, welcome to our new reality. We put this question on the River Morning Show Facebook group, and so many friends are chiming in, and I love it. Producer Mike, what's going on?
SPEAKER_05Gene said that she realized when when I could no longer wear clothes from my closet.
Faith, Football, And Perspective
SPEAKER_09Oh yes, I am already like in between sizes right now. I know. I don't like it.
SPEAKER_05Katie said, girl, I'm almost at 30 weeks and it still doesn't seem real. Wow.
SPEAKER_09Okay, okay, that makes me feel better because there are moments when I don't feel sick that I kind of forget. Right, sure. Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_05Greta said, when they handed my son to me in the hospital. Oh, I looked at my husband and said, Look, a baby!
SPEAKER_09Out of nowhere, look, there's a baby.
