Warm Weekend Joys And Movie Rituals
SPEAKER_05Here's what to expect on this week's episode of the River Morning Show weekly podcast. Our six-month-old puppy bear went through it for two and a half days. This poor boy was Niagara Falls out the back end. No, no!
SPEAKER_04Awful. Awful. I don't want to talk about this anymore.
SPEAKER_03Thanks for pressing play on this podcast. You can find more when you click on demand at riverradio.com. Hannah, the first, I'm gonna call it a warm weekend.
SPEAKER_08Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_03So, what are your first warm weekend activities you look forward to every year?
SPEAKER_05Oh, goodness. Probably like eating dinner on a patio, going for a long walk that you're not miserable in. Uh opening up all the like blinds in the house.
The Price Of Popcorn And Slushies
SPEAKER_03Those are great. My most common, it's not my favorite, but my most common activity is taking a squeegee to the floor from all the mud from my kids' shoes. Come on, guys! There's not uh there's not many sounds that are better than this one. The lights dim. And you are already, you have made it through the previews, and your feature presentation is about to begin. Okay. So my son and I went to the movies, and one of the things that I am willing to do when we go to the movies is buy the popcorn.
SPEAKER_05Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_03But that's it. Here's the reason why. Movie theater popcorn is about the only thing you can't get somewhere else. Yeah. And they charge you an arm and a leg. Like, all I wanted were these Mike and I's why am I giving you seven dollars?
SPEAKER_05No, it's insane.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so it's it's completely crazy. And I don't know if you splurge at the theater or if you're like you all of a sudden have self-control because of the costs. You're like, what does that look like for you and your and your people when you do movies?
SPEAKER_05It's funny because growing up, like, my dad is you, you is my dad. We could only get the popcorn, and he had to be the holder of the tub. He'd get a large. Oh, okay. And then we'd get like the saddest, you know, they'll give you those little quote unquote water cups, but they're like those are tiny. What's the point? And so then they'd give us those so that we could pass the popcorn around. My dad would scoop it, but you'd have to go back 500 times per movie to get to get more popcorn.
SPEAKER_03It's like put a red solo cup in your pocket. That would have been a better idea.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that is better. So now, now that I'm a grown-up and make my own money, my husband and I are completely opposite, and it's a terrible habit. No, and so you're you're unrible habit. Absolutely unhinged. It's like because we couldn't as a kid, now we do. We get the popcorn, we get candy. Chris has to have a slushie. If he's going to the movies, he has to get a slushie. So we just get the whole sorris board, and we don't go very often, so it is like a treat. If we're going to the movies, we're making it a big deal. So popcorn, candy, and slushy for the win.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna sound like such an old person right now. I feel like I've splurged to buy the ticket in the first place.
SPEAKER_05Oh, absolutely. No, that's why it's I mean, this is like an event. Yeah. It's the event of the year when we go.
SPEAKER_03I don't get drinked because so many times I've had to get up in the middle of the plot thickening. Yeah. And I don't like that.
SPEAKER_05But popcorn makes your mouth dry, it can get itchy in your throat. So it's just a terrible balancing act.
SPEAKER_03It is. Uh, at this most recent movie, my son and I did not get popcorn. He only wanted popcorn if they had the special commemorative bucket.
SPEAKER_05The popcorn still tastes the same on a normal bucket. I know, dude.
SPEAKER_03So anyway, he was like, no, I'm not gonna do that, but I'm gonna get a slushie. Oh, alright, all right. It's been a minute since I had a slushie.
SPEAKER_05Treat yourselves.
SPEAKER_03So we had ourselves some slushies at the movie theater, and I still hated paying$17 for two slushies. The old song goes, I once was lost, but now I'm found.
SPEAKER_05Aw, yeah.
Lost And Found: Earbuds And Phones
SPEAKER_03The song's talking about Jesus finding and saving us. Yeah, well, I'm talking about that thing you lost. Oh. The thing you lost in the most annoying, crazy place you found it. Call or text 800-609-1049. And producer Mike, this whole conversation started with you and your earbuds.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was getting ready for work one day, couldn't find my earbuds. I was like, okay, fine. They're probably maybe I left him at the office, or maybe they're in my car. Couldn't find him anywhere. I like tore my apartment apart trying to find these things.
SPEAKER_03The entire world is inside out now because producer Mike had to find his earbuds, could not find them. Yeah, my bad. I'll try to repair that sometime.
SPEAKER_01Thank you. Um so I gave up after a couple of days, and I'm just like, I'm just gonna buy some new earbuds. Uh-huh. Cool. I'm using these new earbuds for a week, and then I'm getting ready for work, and I get grab my backpack that I use every single day. You know what's in the bottom of my backpack? No!
SPEAKER_05You didn't look in your backpack?
SPEAKER_01I thought I did, but apparently I didn't look hard enough. No. Well, now you got backups. Yeah, exactly. That's what I was thinking. I was like, I'm going to lose them at some point again, and now I'm prepared.
SPEAKER_03I uh I had uh similarly, like it was a technology deal. Uh, my very first touch screen, touch screen smartphone. It wasn't even a smartphone, but it was a touch screen. I lost it at my in-laws. I found out. Like I couldn't find it. I was so annoyed. I had to go back to the old analog phone or whatever, you know, like the flip phone. And uh, it was like a year. We go back over to my in-law's house. Somebody is sitting in the recliner and flips the legs up, bajunk, out falls my phone. There's no way. Yeah. Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_05Nobody for a year the legs up?
SPEAKER_03Nope. Nobody What? No one had sat in that chair to recline and out comes my phone.
SPEAKER_05I'm less concerned about your propensity to lose things, and more concerned about your family's ability to relax. I know. Lean back, put your legs up.
SPEAKER_03Listen, I was in their house. I'm not gonna tell them how to live their life. You can call or text when you lost the thing and you found it in the craziest or most annoying place. Call or text 800-609-1049. The song says, I once was lost, but now I'm found, and it was my smartphone, my very first one. It was stuck inside a recliner for a year. I didn't know it until someone had finally flipped the legs up my in-law's recliner and ka chunk out came my phone.
SPEAKER_05I just can't believe nobody had reclined in it for a year.
SPEAKER_03And maybe somebody did, and they saw it, and they're like, I don't know whose that is, and they stuffed it back in there.
SPEAKER_04No.
Vanishing Truck Keys And A Scattered Wallet
SPEAKER_03You don't think so? That'd be nuts. Share your story of what you found or and and and what it is you lost, where you found it. 800-609-1049. Travis!
SPEAKER_00So I have a weird story because I never did find it. Uh it was actually the key to my truck. I used it to drive somewhere, drove to the doctor's appointment. As I'm walking into the doctor's appointment from the parking lot, I notice my truck key is not on my keys. My E-ring. All the rest of my keys are still on my E-ring. I know I use the key to get everything from the truck. Maybe it's in the parking lot somewhere, maybe it was in the bushes somewhere. I spent probably a good half an hour looking, went back later, looked again later, never found it. About a year later, the exact same thing happened in my wife. All her keys still has just missing that one truck key.
SPEAKER_03For the same truck?
SPEAKER_00For the same truck.
SPEAKER_05No way.
SPEAKER_03That thing's trying to secede from the family.
SPEAKER_05Or here's what I'm thinking. Somehow you guys never actually had the keys, and Jesus decided to take the wheel. He took the wheel both times.
SPEAKER_00Apparently. But we have since sold that truck, so don't have to worry about that anymore. We're over this.
SPEAKER_03This happens to everybody. You can share your story. Hannah, how about you? Like to you or somebody you know.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, okay. So this is my twin brother's story, and I just think it's so wild. So back in high school, he was playing basketball at a friend's house down the street, and he lost his wallet. When he went to go home, he couldn't find it. They tore apart the house, they looked everywhere, couldn't find it. And they get a call, he gets a call from a random stranger that's saying, Hey, I found your wallet. It was scattered across Polaris Parkway.
SPEAKER_03Oh my word!
SPEAKER_05Yeah, all the way across the road. What in the world? So apparently he had left it on top of the friend's mom's minivan. So while they were out playing basketball, he took it out of his pocket, put it on the minivan. Mom drove away to go somewhere. And some kind stranger, because he was a um he was a host at Caraba's at the time on Polaris. Okay. So he had all of his tit money in there. And this kind stranger ran up and down Polaris Parkway. Gathering the money? Gathering the money so that they could return it to him. But yeah, this wallet had seen better days after being run over a time or two by them all.
SPEAKER_03Little boy blues. You're gonna have all of that. You're gonna have little baseball bats. You're gonna have roller skates. You're gonna have blood everywhere at some point.
SPEAKER_04What is happening?
SPEAKER_03Bone's gonna be sticking out of his arms. Stop it! Well, this is raising boys. This is how we do. Raising boys, there are going to be things that you're like, well, a cute little girl wouldn't have done that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Uh Hannah and her husband are getting ready to welcome a young man into the world.
SPEAKER_05Little baby boy. When is the due date on that? August 5th. Woo! Right around the corner. I know we're almost halfway there. That's nuts! I know.
SPEAKER_03So the whole goal here today is to maybe give Hannah a tip or two. That was me. I just tried to give you a tip. Like, just be ready. You'll need gauze.
SPEAKER_05Oh, goodness.
SPEAKER_03And ace bandages.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_03All right. What are your tips if you have any on raising sons? Call or text 800-609-1049. Okay, Amy, uh, you're up. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_06My biggest advice is pray all the time. And when they get quiet, make sure you go check on them. Oh. Because it usually means, like my son did that one time. He got super quiet, and I went in to check on him, and he had gotten a hold of the baby powder and was squeezing it, and his whole bedroom was just full of powder. And he's cracking off laughing and I'm going, oh, clean all this up.
SPEAKER_03I've seen that with like the decetin, the diaper cream, too. And that stuff's water resistant. I don't even know. You just gotta burn the room down at that point.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah, well, and then my my ex-husband, when he was little, um, got a hold of the Vaseline and got his baby brother and the cat.
SPEAKER_08Yep.
SPEAKER_06So like make sure you're putting things like out of the reach of small children.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah. So silence means danger.
SPEAKER_08Absolutely does.
Diaper Defense And Endless Energy
SPEAKER_03Or silence just means they're having a whole lot of fun and you've got to have a best advice for raising a son is buy yourself a helmet.
SPEAKER_05Myself one? Yeah, you.
SPEAKER_03Not the kiddo. No, not the kid.
SPEAKER_05I need the helmet.
SPEAKER_03Yes. You're the target.
SPEAKER_05Oh.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's like chase after mom. Because if you have a good husband, and I know you do, he'll also be like, he's gonna take this boy of yours that you were going to raise soon.
SPEAKER_04Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_03And he's gonna say, let's get her.
SPEAKER_04Oh no. You're gonna need it. You're gonna need a helmet. In a good hiding spot.
SPEAKER_03Maybe knee pads and shoulder pads. Hannah and her husband are expecting a boy. We've been talking about it a bunch, and thought, what better way to honor those boys that folks are raising than let's give Hannah and her husband a few tips on raising a son. Producer Mike is here. The uh the Text Diverse has been active. You're saying what?
SPEAKER_01Allison from Delaware said that I have three sons, and I've learned that anything you make to eat, just make it double or triple batch because boys eat more than you could ever anticipate.
SPEAKER_05I have learned that in my first year of marriage. So I'm definitely going to be tripling because there's never enough food.
SPEAKER_03If he, your son, has your husband's metabolism, you're gonna need a second job.
SPEAKER_05Wild duck. He doesn't gain weight, but he eats everything. Goodness.
SPEAKER_01Kristen said, I'm a mom of three boys and they love dirt. They love puddles, they love getting dirt all over them and in the house. But don't forget to love every moment and the joys that they bring because it's all worth it.
SPEAKER_04Awesome, sweet. It really is.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, remember that next time there's an enormous mud stain on the couch. Yeah, right. I love this, I love this, I love this. Uh, Nadia, thanks for calling. What did you want to share with Hannah this morning?
SPEAKER_07Yeah, so I am a mother of six boys. Wow, Nadia! Okay, you know everything.
SPEAKER_05Where's my journal? I need to write this down. Okay, I'm ready.
SPEAKER_07Yes, I do. So, my biggest tip for you though is when you are changing the diaper, make sure you have a wifey over the area so that you don't get another shower.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I've had a lot of people talk about this. I I've raised three sons and I never have I never got peed on.
SPEAKER_04Never once. You are blessed. Never? Oh my goodness. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Okay, we've been trying, we tried like the little pee-pee teepees. Have you seen those? I was gonna ask about that.
SPEAKER_05Yes.
SPEAKER_03They wiggle those off immediately anyway.
SPEAKER_05So but so you're saying the best route instead of the little teepee's are to use just like put a white there.
SPEAKER_07I can do, yep, definitely just put a white there. You're good.
Dog Drama: The Boom, The Vet, The Mystery
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I mean, that makes sense because you're always gonna have one of those around anyway. Right, right. You don't even have to think about it. But that when we first found out I was having a boy, that was one of the first thoughts that went through my mind. I was like, oh no. Target practice.
SPEAKER_07Yes, yep. And then lots of sports, lots of activities.
SPEAKER_05Yes. We are always in the car, yep. And wear them out because or else they'll be like spinning around and around. Endless energy. Nadia, this was such a blessing. Thank you so much for sharing. And oh man, I bet you were raising six fantastic young men. So thank you for pouring into me this morning.
SPEAKER_07Thank you. Congratulations. Good luck. Thank you. Bye, Nadia. Bye.
SPEAKER_05Sometimes your dog goes woof or bark. That's that's what they do. And other times they go boom.
SPEAKER_03Ah, do they jump from somewhere? No. And land on the ground with them. Wiff only. No.
SPEAKER_05What happened? Our six-month-old puppy bear went through it. And thus we went through it. For two and a half days, this poor boy was Niagara Falls out the back end.
SPEAKER_04Oh, no!
SPEAKER_05It's awful. Awful.
SPEAKER_04You can't talk about this anymore.
SPEAKER_05Well, here's well, I have to. I just I need you to be in this pain with me. I am. You'd hear it before it happened. It was like in cartoons when they'd light the stick of dynamite and you hear it sizzling, you know? You would know. You would hear the stomach gurgle. You cannot be serious. Yes, that was every like both nights. We were up every single hour because we'd hear it, which was kind of nice. You'd hear the sizzle. Yeah, the shit. And then we'd go sprinting outside for the bang. Don't call it that. It would happen. Which is like a Yeah! And then he would make this whine noise. Like he's poor poor boy. It's terrible. This poor boy, praise God. He's doing so much better now.
SPEAKER_03Good, okay.
SPEAKER_05But we don't we still don't really know what caused it. His tests at the vet all came back clear.
SPEAKER_03Of course they did.
SPEAKER_05It could be that he eats these red huckleberries in our yard, like candy. Oh. And they're they're okay. They're like, they're kind of like eating blueberries, but like to that amount.
Would You Rather: Spicy Vs Sour
SPEAKER_03If humans eat too much of that, your sizzle banging. Boom.
SPEAKER_05Or the vet said at six months is when they start to develop food allergies. So we don't know yet. We have to see, we have to wait for his stomach to fully kind of settle down. We don't know. What I do know is that, you know, he's a giant breed, is what I call it. He's a big dog. Yeah. And a giant breed's tummy ache is not just an oh no, he had a little accident. No, this pup had a bare explosion.
SPEAKER_04Would you rather?
SPEAKER_01Alright, would you rather only have spicy food for an entire day? And I'm talking real spicy. Okay. Okay. Or only have sour food for an entire day.
SPEAKER_05Oh man, this is tough. Uh, both bad for the belly, but.
SPEAKER_03No, I mean, not necessarily. What? I mean, spicy food doesn't necessarily mean bad for the belly.
SPEAKER_05Uh-huh. If that's all you can eat all day.
SPEAKER_03That's what I'm doing. I'm picking the spicy.
SPEAKER_05I think just, yeah, I'll go sour, because that just it might hurt my mouth, but it's a big thing.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's the thing. You have to decide between the two of like, am I gonna be in pain? Because yes, your face will melt off.
SPEAKER_05Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_03But Hannah, with yours, you're puckering up to people all day long. Ah, it's fine. What do you mean it's fine? You don't even like hug your husband.
SPEAKER_05No, because it's a different type of pucker. It's more like I have disdain.
SPEAKER_03It is one of those puckers where one at one eye is twitching. Like, is she judging me? Is she okay? Well, Maidus, so you might be onto something. If people stay away from you because of what you're doing.
SPEAKER_05The problem is I do love people, so I don't really want them to stay away, but maybe I'll use that day to catch up on my reading. Could be. So I'll look really um like it's not gonna be a quiet day because you're gonna be like, I'll look really distant and mean, but I'll be reading my book.
SPEAKER_03I'm like a walking advertisement for Frank's Red Hot because I do put it on everything. Put it on everything.
SPEAKER_05If you had to eat all spicy foods all day, you'd not only be a walking advertisement for Frank's, you'd be a walking advertisement for Pepto Pepto business.
SPEAKER_03No, it doesn't hurt me like that.
SPEAKER_05Have you had it from sunup to sundown? Every snack, every drink, your coffee would be spicy.
SPEAKER_03Listen, I'm still married. It's fine.
SPEAKER_04Okay, because I realize what you think's gonna happen. I know. And sure, maybe sometimes.
SPEAKER_05There will be an end result. The end result.
SPEAKER_03I don't think that's good.
SPEAKER_05Your insides will feel all roasty-toasty and not in a good warm way.
SPEAKER_03Alright, would you rather spicy food all day long or would you rather sour food all day long? You can play tiebreaker on Would You Rather call or text 800-609-1049.
SPEAKER_01Would you rather for an entire day only eat super spicy foods or super sour foods? Yeah.
SPEAKER_05No, this is this is easy. Sour all the way.
SPEAKER_03No way. Spicy because spicy has like better flavor, I think.
SPEAKER_05I don't necessarily disagree with that statement. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think that they're no food-wise, there's probably more nutritional things in the spicy category than the sour. You're getting diabetes. But you're getting Peptobismol. And I'm just not ready for the multiple-day impact that eating spicy food for 24 hours would do to a person.
SPEAKER_03What do you mean? What are you talking about, Hannah? I will let you fill in the blanks. Okay.
SPEAKER_05But I don't think it's gonna end well.
SPEAKER_03Firing blanks. Anyway. So on uh the text machine, producer Mike, who says what?
SPEAKER_01Anne said that she is team spicy. That's what I'm talking about. Come on. Then Cammy evened things up and she's team sour.
SPEAKER_05Okay, Cammy!
SPEAKER_01Then we had Amy, who's playing the middle. She said she'd rather fast. Just not an option.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03You're not allowed. Okay, so are we still tied? Still tied. Uh, producer Mike, you play tiebreaker. Would you rather have spicy food all day or sour food all day?
SPEAKER_01I feel like I have to go with sour. What?
SPEAKER_05Woo! All right, let's go. Josh, you lose.
SPEAKER_01You mean why? I've got like very little spice tolerance, and if I have something like mildly spicy, uh, I'm like done for the rest of the time.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and plus then, like all day you're carrying a cup of milk, and nobody needs that much milk in a day. Ugh, your belly, so many bad things would happen.
Time Change News And Auntie Magic
SPEAKER_03Hannah, do you feel satisfied by the fact that producer Mike has helped you win? Because he just admitted the reason he would choose sour over spice is because he has a baby tum-tum. That's okay.
SPEAKER_05Everyone really has a baby tum-tum. They do not. The world doesn't need that much milk or that much spice. We all have little baby tumtums. Okay. Take care of your belly.
SPEAKER_03Well, I'm not going to accept defeat when I get to have an ask Jesus.
SPEAKER_05Okay. Which would you like? He can decide. Would you rather?
SPEAKER_03News that'll make you go.
SPEAKER_05Willy. What? Josh, what in this wild, wacky world did you find today?
SPEAKER_03Every year people talk about doing this. Actually, they complain and then they talk about doing this. So kudos to the brave folks of British Columbia and Canada because they're not just talking anymore, they're doing it.
SPEAKER_05What are they doing?
SPEAKER_03This weekend, when we spring forward for that time change, it's the last time for BC.
SPEAKER_05They made it out.
unknownThey figured it out.
SPEAKER_03They are even renaming their time zone to Pacific Time.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_03That's it.
SPEAKER_05What was it before?
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_05Okay. Pacific Standard Times, probably that. Probably.
SPEAKER_03And it also helps me know where British Columbia is.
SPEAKER_04Because I didn't know and wasn't sure.
SPEAKER_03I knew Canada, but that was that was it. So anyway, maybe the US will follow suit. Canada getting something right here, but all I know is we still beat them in hockey. USA! USA!
Women Of Faith And Everyday Courage
SPEAKER_05Being an auntie is the best. If you have nieces and nephews, you know how fun it is. You get to be the cool one. The let's party, then send them back to your parents all loopy and full of sugar one.
SPEAKER_03That's the grandparent thing.
SPEAKER_05Oh, it works for aunts and uncles too. For sure. I got to be the fun auntie. Again, it's one of my favorite titles and roles to play. I took Mia, my oldest niece, to go get our toes done. We went and got her a princess pedicure, is what they call it. And of course, of course, I got one too. Absolutely. So we get there, and you know, you pick out your polish, and they have you go sit down in one of those nice like massage chairs, and you're soaking your toes. And Mia is looking at the the polish she picked out, and I asked her what color she got, and it's this bright pink with sparkles. And of course, she'd pick that, like, and I love it for her. Perfect. But she looks at mine and she goes, Green? Why'd you get green? This is one of my favorite moments I've ever had as anyone. Okay, sorry, yeah. And I look at her and I go, Oh, Mia, don't you know what month it is? And she goes, Yeah, it's March. I go, Well, who comes in March? And this girl picked her little booty up and walked straight to the front to get her green polish. It is Women's History Month, and it's a great reminder of just how God has used and continues to use women who trust him even when the odds feel impossible. Think about these women of the Bible. There was Deborah leading an army with courage she never could have mustered on her own. Or Esther stepping into the palace, risking everything to save her people. Ruth leaving everything familiar behind, showing that loyalty and faith can open doors you didn't even know existed. And of course, Mary. Yeah. A young girl facing the impossible, saying yes to God and becoming a part of a story that changed the entire world.
SPEAKER_03And that's just scratching the surface of the women in the Bible who are so inspiring and powerful.
Join Us Live And Leave A Review
SPEAKER_05Oh, there's so many more. I just don't have time. Right. These women weren't perfect and their situations weren't easy, but they leaned into God anyway. And you and I can do the same thing. Your faith, your courage, and your willingness to trust Him in the moments that feel impossible can make history in your own life and in the lives of those around you. So take a moment this month to love, honor, and encourage the women in your life. Your support could be the spark that reminds them just how capable capable God made them to do amazing things. So to all the ladies out there know that you are loved, you are seen, you are appreciated, and you are welcome here.
