March Madness Bracket Confessions

SPEAKER_04We're ahead of selection Sunday as of this recording.
SPEAKER_06You doing a bracket this year? Oh yeah. My family always does it. And I have never once placed in the top five. Never.
SPEAKER_04The closest I've been was top three in like a pool of 50.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's pretty impressive.
SPEAKER_04You know what that got me? Pretty much like respect from three people and a large fry. That's pretty much all it got me.
SPEAKER_06That's all we get in our family. You just are playing for respect for bragging rights. And the thing is, the person who knows the least about sports usually wins. Just based off of mascots or colors. That's me. But I don't win. I hate it here.
The Fidgets We Cannot Quit
SPEAKER_04And everybody's got one. So we want to know here this morning what's your fidget?
SPEAKER_06Hmm. Your fidget.
SPEAKER_04The thing you do that you don't know you're doing until somebody pointed it out, and now you're like, oh yeah. I do that thing. My wife has pointed out my fidget for me, it usually happens most at church because I'm locked in. I'm paying attention. I'm taking notes. That's good. My leg or my foot is bouncing like crazy.
SPEAKER_06When you're focused, your leg bounces? Yes, that's how That's what my brother does when he has to pee. You're just locked into what's being said. Okay.
SPEAKER_04It's just helping me pay attention and it removes other distractions by giving me something to do subconsciously while I'm taking notes. But my wife will look at me and she'll be like, You're bouncing the entire row. The I am moving over here. Like I'll do it sometimes at dinner when we're having a conversation. And like the all the glasses, the silverware is clinking on the table because I'm bouncing so hard. Somebody's drink just spilled over. Yeah, that's my fidget. You can share yours. SPEAKER_04I will admit, I have not seen anything with you, but you gotta have something.
SPEAKER_06I think I just can't. I can't be doing nothing. I have to be doing something, but not even moving. So, like the one thing I always go to, if I'm just sitting somewhere, I'll pull up on my phone or I'll pull up on my laptop, wordle. That's still a thing? I mean, I still make it a thing. I know it's like such a COVID thing, but I still play Wordle every single day. And if I find like I'm in a moment of like not sure what to do with myself, I just I do wordle. Wow.
SPEAKER_04Your fidget is wordle. That's wild. Uh producer Mike, what is your fidget?
SPEAKER_01So I stand up and I kind of bounce up and down. And no, I'm not just grooving to the music. I'm actually trying to crack my ankles.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we've seen that. Okay.
SPEAKER_04That makes a lot of sense now because I do out of the corner of my eye, it's just like burn.
SPEAKER_06Or like his legs are giving out.
SPEAKER_04Are you good?

SPEAKER_04You need water? I forget what movie that was, like Master of Disguise or whatever. It's like turtle.
SPEAKER_06Like literally that's Master of Disguise.
SPEAKER_01It does kind of look like that, at least what I imagined in my head.
SPEAKER_04All right, you can share yours because we're clearly not the only crazy people around here with our fidgets. What is your fidget? Call or text 800-609-1049. And I don't mean our fidget spinners, although I would love one of those.
SPEAKER_06Um you need one of those. I really do. You're constantly moving or twirling something.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. I even have like one of those wind-up cars that I spin between my fingers.
SPEAKER_06You cannot sit still.
SPEAKER_04It's a problem. Um anyway, so thanks for that, Hannah, for making it even worse. Um I bounce my leg when I'm paying attention to something. It's how I lock in. Hannah's not like moving all the time.
SPEAKER_06No, I'm very happy to sit still.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I'm just fine with that. But my brain has to be doing something. I can't, like, if I have downtime or if I just like need a mental moment, Wordle. That's it. Wordle's my JM. It started during COVID and it's never stopped.
SPEAKER_04Do you make it every day? Like, do you get it every day?
SPEAKER_06Wordle, I usually get. It's then there's another game that came out called Connections, which is through the same website. Uh, your son introduced me to that one. Which one was that? When he was in the studio. Was it Clay? No, it was Will. It was Will. It was Will. Um, yeah, it was Will. And now I that one gets me every time.
SPEAKER_04I'm gonna tell him. Like, he has tripped me up.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he's really angry.
SPEAKER_04And enhanced your life.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. All at the same time. Yes.
SPEAKER_04Producer Mike, your fidget is something that I had to ask you about one day. It's like, what are you doing? I just see your head going up and down over there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I crack my ankles. Sometimes, like, I feel like I get like tightness in my ankles and just pop and I gotta like bob up and down. Like this little squat.
SPEAKER_06Do chiropractors work on ankles? They do. Mike, you might need to go talk to someone because it is multiple times a day.
SPEAKER_04This little squat thing is free.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, but I feel like we're not addressing the core issue.
SPEAKER_04No, that's true. Yeah, really get to the problem. Uh, the uh the the text machine and the River Morning Show Facebook group, they are all open and ready for you. Uh producer Mike, who's saying what?
SPEAKER_01Angie said, I play with my wedding ring. I like to spin it around, slide it up and down my finger, flip it around.
SPEAKER_04I'll do that sometimes. I'm I'm always nervous about taking it off, though, because I would like to leave it somewhere or like spin it right into a hole in the floor.
SPEAKER_06Anytime I go out to dinner with my husband, he's twirling it on the table. And I'm like, dude, stop it. If you if you lose that, we're going to Walmart and that's your replacement. That's right, the 25 cent machine by the door.
SPEAKER_01Joel from Brewster said, for me, it's pen clicking and it drags my wife insane.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, sorry, friend. That would get me. That would no stop it. I would throw that pen as far as I can.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, well, if hopefully for you, he'd be in the way.
SPEAKER_01Just like you can't click that one anymore, can you? Oh, goodness. Valerie said, I twist my hair and I'm just messing with it constantly. I've seen people like that.
SPEAKER_06I feel like that's pretty common. Definitely, like Valerie, I don't know how old you are, but like my young niece does that. And I'm sure it continues, though, if it is a habit from childhood.
SPEAKER_04Hannah thinks you're a baby.
SPEAKER_06No, well, I I will call you young.
SPEAKER_04That's always good to hear. There's that.
Tried It Once Never Again
SPEAKER_06Not every adventure is meant to be repeated.
SPEAKER_04Say no more. Actually, I want to know why. Say more, yes, please.
SPEAKER_06Some things like hot yoga, ballroom dancing, or joining a debate team. Make it clear after the first time, nope, not for you. It's not your thing, and that's okay. But I'm curious, what was something you tried once and it was not for you? Call or text to share 800-609-1049. For me personally, anything musical.
SPEAKER_04Oh, anything. I've heard you sing songs with the River Sing Along, and you do a great job.
SPEAKER_06You are too kind, and you might need to clean out your ears. Because here's the thing. I actually did try more than once, and not for me. Let's think. Back to fifth grade, the flute. No. No, absolutely not. Sixth grade, the trumpet.
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_06Absolutely not. Piano lessons all throughout that. I would only want to learn the Christmas songs.
SPEAKER_04Plus your fingers.
SPEAKER_06They don't move. They're long, so you'd think it would work well. No, they have rigor mortis. They don't work.
SPEAKER_04Hannah has rigor mortis fingers. Like it just doesn't function. Even as you're doing hand gestures now, they are sticking straight at me. They're creepy. I get it.
SPEAKER_06Put me in a trick-or-treat movie. I don't know. Choir, tried that in middle school. No. Just couldn't stick with it. Couldn't, didn't, like, if they put me in in front of the entire choir and made me do a solo. No. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So, and here you are still working in Christian music radio.
SPEAKER_06Look, I am very good at listening. It is a skill set that God has given me. However, musical skills, not one of them. Understood. Absolutely not. So now I'm curious, what is that for you? That thing that you tried once and you said never again. Call or text 800-609-1049. Some experiences are one and done. Maybe it was skydiving. Sushi. Running a 5K. Whatever it was, you knew right away. Nope, not my thing. So what something you tried once and never looked back? Josh, I'm curious if something came to mind for you with that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's um it's anything home improvement related. Oh. Cut, cut twice. No, no, cut, see?
SPEAKER_02Measure?
SPEAKER_04Measure twice, cut once. And for me, it then it includes throw it away, start again.
SPEAKER_02It's terrible.
SPEAKER_04I can't put things in the wall. If you look behind all of our hanging stuff on the wall, there's like 15 holes when I was trying to get it right. Oh, dude. It's just, it's a mess. I can't do it. I can paint a room. I'm good at that. That's it. Everything else, no.
SPEAKER_06Look out. If Josh has a hammer, you're in danger.
SPEAKER_04It will guarantee it's another trip to the hardware and a conversation with the poor person wearing the bib to help me figure out what in the world am I doing wrong?

SPEAKER_00I decided that any place that didn't have a spot to plug in my curling iron or my blow dryer was just not for me.
SPEAKER_06Amen, amen. And if it's not a real toilet, absolutely, that's a no-go, literally.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely not. Never again.
SPEAKER_04I just heard what you said. That's disgusting, Hannah. You're welcome. That's so gross.
SPEAKER_00It is.
SPEAKER_04All right, so what else do we got? Because other people have chimed in on the on the text.
SPEAKER_06Some friends have texted in. Uh Mary in Zanesville said skiing. After they shut down the lift to remove me, I quit. Oh, sweet Mary. I'm so sorry. Yeah, that would be a tough one to come back from. Uh-huh. Brittany said the crunchy seaweed leaves. Oh, I don't mind those. Is that just like the stuff they wrap sushi in? Is that all that is?
SPEAKER_04Or is it something different? It's either that. My wife has also like cooked kale before. She like made kale chips out of it. I like that. Out of seaweed? Yeah, it's kale.
SPEAKER_05Oh, it's kale. Okay. I don't know. Is it kale seaweed? No, no.
SPEAKER_04No, okay.
SPEAKER_05I don't know what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_04What was her name? Brittany. Britney. Whatever you're talking about. Yeah, I'm also. I don't know. I'm out.
SPEAKER_06And then Gabby in Delaware said she tried cliff jumping off a 40-foot cliff in an old abandoned rock quarry quarry. That's intense, Gabby. She said it was fun, but I ended up with a bruised backside and couldn't sit for a week.
SPEAKER_04Serves you right.
SPEAKER_06Rock jumping like that.
Chipmunks Invade The Kitchen
SPEAKER_06They're in the walls. They're in the cabinets. We're surrounded. It's the chipmunks. The chipmunks.
SPEAKER_04Is this is this real or are you reading from a storybook? Like what?
SPEAKER_06Never have I ever thought ill thoughts about Alvin and his brothers until now. Down with the chipmunks.
SPEAKER_04Wow, that's okay. What happened?
SPEAKER_06Chris, my husband, has been battling the chipmunks in our yard ever since the first like above 30 degree day here in Ohio.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06They are digging so many holes. We see spots everywhere.
SPEAKER_04You got a lot of that in our yard, too.
SPEAKER_06Trying to go under the shed and in the flowers, and I was like, no, like, Chris, they're fine. They're harmless little cutie patoonies.
SPEAKER_04Well. I feel like I need to change the tone here.
SPEAKER_06Hang on a second. Um, all right, so okay. Earlier this week, both Chris and I were just meal prepping, so there was a lot of chaos happening in the kitchen, and we both needed towels and oven mitts. Normally we have some readily available, but we needed more, so I needed to open the drawer of extra kitchen towels and mitts that never gets opened.
SPEAKER_02And what did you find? Rarely open it. What did you see?
SPEAKER_06I screamed because inside were all these food shavings of a chipmunk. Little pieces of nuts everywhere. And then I like freaked out and was like opening every drawer in the kitchen, and you could see where they've had snacks in the drawers that we just like don't open daily. Sure. They've made their little tables in there. That's where lunchtime is.
SPEAKER_04It's like you have a high rise of apartments.
SPEAKER_06No! And we did Google, it's definitely the chipmunks, not mice. But I didn't think I didn't know that chipmunks come into the home. No, they're little woodland creatures that stay outside and sing songs with a Disney character.
SPEAKER_04The thing about that is we forget that our houses also made are made of wood. And so they're like, Oh my word! It's home, it's just squared off and nicely cut.
SPEAKER_06So I pulled on these rubber gloves to start grabbing anything out of the drawers that had any sign of chipmunk. So I'm pulling stuff out and Chris has disappeared. I'm like, where where did you go? How did me? When I need you most! There is a rodent in the house. Like, you need to come help me. He comes barreling out of the living room with a golf club.
SPEAKER_04A golf club? Why? What is his deal?
SPEAKER_06He I knew he doesn't like like I know he doesn't like rodents. This was the first time in our marriage that I've seen him like come this face to face with one.
SPEAKER_04So he he was unglued.
SPEAKER_06He was ready to just in this drawer with all of the towels and oven mitts to just prepare for a world war against it.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
SPEAKER_06With his golf club.
SPEAKER_03It's gonna jump out and he's gonna hit it like a baseball bat.
SPEAKER_06I don't know what the plan was. All I know is I'm screaming when the rubber collapsed. He has a baseball bat. We have not found a single chipmunk, but we have removed all their little treats and snacks that they've brought into the house.
SPEAKER_04You guys are living the homeowner's dream.
SPEAKER_06And I don't know what to do. What do you do with chipmunks in the house? Like, I know mouse traps, I know how to repel mice. Is it the same thing?
SPEAKER_04I don't know. I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_06I don't know. So if you know, let me know. But also just help me not feel so alone. Because I also feel embarrassed. I'm like, we have chipmunks in our house.
SPEAKER_04One of the best things about the river is you can admit anything and you find out you're not alone. So Hannah. This is the tree of trust, but it's indoors because the squirrels and the I mean the chipmunks are in that tree.

SPEAKER_06My husband and I have been battling the chipmunks recently. I thought it was just an outside problem.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so this is in your house.
SPEAKER_06Yes, it was just my husband was upset about all the holes in the in the yard and trying to shoe them away until just this week I was opening some of the drawers in the kitchen that we don't open very often. Yep. And I found their little snacks. And my heart stopped, and I'm losing my mind, and I never knew. I never knew. I don't know if that's naive that chipmunks came in the house.
SPEAKER_04Well, then also your husband shows up with a weapon slash the kitchen wedge.
SPEAKER_06He grabbed a yeah, the golf to defend me from the chipmunk that we never found. I just had rubber gloves on. I was ready to tear into the drawers and find it. But oh my goodness. So it just like had me thinking, I can't be the only one who has been shocked by the rodents in the house.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and not even necessarily mice, because those show up.
SPEAKER_06Everyone can get. Like it doesn't matter if you live in the city or in a farm. Like the mice are everywhere.
SPEAKER_04But the chipmunks. We had kind of an exotic one one time. Did you? To it to a degree. When we had just uh moved into our house, my youngest son came out of his room and he just said, I think we have a mouse, and we're like, ah, rats. And he said, I saw it scamper away. And I'm like, mice don't scamper. What do you mean by scamper?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I define it a little more.
SPEAKER_04So it hopped, it was big enough for him to see it had a long tail. We're like, ah, squirrel. It was not a squirrel.
SPEAKER_06Was it a rat?
SPEAKER_04It was not a rat. I was picking up towels later, and in the pile of towels was a flying squirrel.
SPEAKER_06A flying squirrel was in the square.
SPEAKER_04Yes. And so we instantly, all of us, we do the dumb thing that humans do. We're just we stick our arms out and we make noise. We're like, ah and the it didn't help at all. The thing's climbing.
SPEAKER_06Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_04In our kitchen, it's climbing up my wife's curtains. She's losing her mind, and I'm freaking out.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_04We eventually got it into a box, closed the box real quick, and then just threw the box outside.
SPEAKER_06Look, they're cute when they're outside, but when you put a rodent with wings in the house, I know!
SPEAKER_04Absolutely not. There was one point he was sizing me up, and I'm like, don't you dare jump over here. I am not a tree. I am not a home for you. You stay over there. Thankfully, uh, we were without much trouble, we were able to get him out.
SPEAKER_06But the word scamper clued me in.
SPEAKER_04I'm like, this is not right. This is something more serious than just a mouse.
SPEAKER_06Oh, you can call or text to share when you had a rodent in the house. I know. Really fun morning conversations. 800-609-1049. Bonnie texted in. She said that chipmunks were everywhere when they moved to their house five years ago. But George, their cat, is an outdoor cat. Okay. And has eradicated them for the whole neighborhood. Wow! Bonnie, can you drop off George to my neighborhood? We could use them.

A Flying Squirrel House Rescue
SPEAKER_04was at our house. No new car pulled in the driveway. So I went to the window too, and I'm like, what are you looking at, buddy? And then I saw it. Flashing lights. It was a fire truck. Oh no. I hadn't heard any sirens or anything, so I was like, okay, what is going on? I immediately started overthinking because the fire truck was parked outside our next door neighbor's house. Worst case scenarios going through my mind. Best case scenarios going through my mind, like maybe everyone's okay, maybe it was a false alarm of some sort. But then how was I gonna find out what was going on? Because I didn't want to be the guy just, you know, sipping my coffee staring at a disaster next door. But you also don't want to be nosy. I didn't want to be nosy. You can't go knock on someone's door when the authorities are there. No.
SPEAKER_06And I also didn't want to get in the way if something was really wrong. And you don't want to be a sidewalk dweller. Like you can't just go staring at it.
SPEAKER_04Like, sir, can you stop pacing? You're stressing me out. So I didn't know what to do, so I sent a text. Oh. And I was like, this is so lame. I felt terrible sending it because it's very easy to just send a text. It's almost like thoughts and prayers. Like, is that really even like does that is it effective? Thoughts, no. Prayers, yes. But still, it's a text, it just didn't have the the care that I wanted with it. So I just I wasn't.
SPEAKER_06I mean, I feel like that's a pretty good, like is compromise? It's it's a respectful distance because you don't know what's going on inside. You want to give them their space, but you're also showing that you care by doing something.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but like then I just went back to like reading my book or whatever, and it because there wasn't anything else I could do. It just it it felt very impersonal and disconnected from potentially a time that they would need comfort and help.
SPEAKER_06Well, that's why the first responders are there.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_06And then as the details come out, you can you can be your friend.
SPEAKER_04I will say, this one does have a happy ending.

Overthinking A Fire Truck Next Door
SPEAKER_06refreshing moment.
SPEAKER_04Uh my my neighbor is from Switzerland. That's cool. And he has a French accent.
SPEAKER_05Even cooler.
SPEAKER_04So he replied to my text and I will read to you what he said in a French accent. He said, This is very nice from you. Detectors carbon monoxide went off, so we called 911. The problem with the batteries. Thank you, Josh. So everybody.
SPEAKER_06That was a really good accent.
SPEAKER_04Everybody was okay. And so I appreciate him responding, letting me know.
SPEAKER_06We're good, bro. C'est bon. We're good. It is Women's History Month. And it's a great reminder of just how God has used and continues to use women
Women Of The Bible Who Inspire
SPEAKER_06who trust him even when the odds feel impossible. Think about these women of the Bible. There was Deborah leading an army with courage she never could have mustered on her own. Or Esther stepping into the palace, risking everything to save her people. Ruth leaving everything familiar behind, showing that loyalty and faith can open doors you didn't even know existed. And of course, Mary. Yeah. A young girl facing the impossible, saying yes to God and becoming a part of a story that changed the entire world.
SPEAKER_04And that's just scratching the surface of the women in the Bible who are so inspiring and powerful.
SPEAKER_06Oh, there's so many more. I just don't have time. Right. These women weren't perfect and their situations weren't easy, but they leaned into God anyway. And you and I can do the same thing. Your faith, your courage, and your willingness to trust Him in the moments that feel impossible can make history in your own life and in the lives of those around you. So take a moment this month to love, honor, and encourage the women in your life. Your support could be the spark that reminds them just how capable God made them to do amazing things. So to all the ladies out there know that you are loved, you are seen, you are appreciated, and you are welcome here.

SPEAKER_06True story. In the Bible, in the book of Daniel, three guys, Shadrach,
Faith In The Furnace Story
SPEAKER_06Meshach, and Abendigo, were living in Babylon, working high-up government jobs under King Nebuchadnezzar. Big name, we'll call him Neb. Things were going okay until the king built a giant golden statue and made this royal decree. When the music plays, everyone has to bow. And if you don't, you're getting thrown into a burning furnace.
SPEAKER_04It would have been really hard to take him seriously if that's what he sounded like.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, sorry, that's all I got. Now, most people would have hit the floor the second the flute played, but not these three. They stood tall, no bowing, no fear, and the king loses it. He gives them one more chance bow or burn. And they say something wild. Our God can save us. And even if he doesn't, we still won't bow.
SPEAKER_04That is faith. Wow.
SPEAKER_06It's so powerful. So into the furnace they go, flames so hot, they kill the guards standing near it.

Because sometimes God doesn't stop the fire, but he will never leave you in it alone. He's the kind of God who climbs into the flames with you. So whatever pressure you're under today stands strong, you are not alone. And that's a true story.
