Cornerstone

In Genesis 4, we encounter one of the most sobering stories in Scripture—the account of Cain and Abel. Both brothers brought offerings to the Lord, but only Abel’s was accepted. Cain’s anger opened the door for sin to take hold, leading to the first murder recorded in the Bible.

This message unpacks three powerful truths we learn from Cain’s story:

  • What we bring isn’t as important as how we bring it. God desires a heart of obedience and surrender more than the offering itself.
  • Sin isn’t your friend. Like a predator at the door, sin desires to control us, but God calls us to rule over it.
  • Sin desensitizes us to conviction. Left unchecked, it distances us from God’s presence and leads to wandering.

Even in judgment, we see God’s mercy. He protected Cain from destruction, showing that His justice is always tempered with grace.
