I value my skills, expertise, and creativity and believe that they deserve financial recognition.
2.It’s impossible to make money in this profession. Clients simply don’t see my worth.
I stand out from my competitors by emphasizing my unique qualities and carefully crafting my brand. This builds my reputation in the industry.
3.I hate selling.
Retail products complement the services I provide for my clients.
4.My clients come here to see me, not my team.
I surround myself with positive and successful people, hiring team members who are more skilled than I am. My team is crucial to my business.
5.I need to discount in order to get clients in.
I prioritize exceptional care for each client, which earns me their respect and loyalty.
6.You can’t make the same amount of money in the salon industry that you could 15 years ago.
I hire top-notch specialists to assist me in the salon so I can focus on expanding and growing my business.
7.I can’t afford to spend a day outside the salon, it won’t run by itself!
Thanks to my success, I can indulge my passion for hair and beauty outside of work and travel the world.
8.There’s no way I can see myself being able to retire anytime soon.
I aim to make the most of my profession to provide a wonderful life for my family and donate to worthy causes. My success and the experiences I offer to my clients make the world a better place.
Pretty huge difference, right?
Let's not get too deep, but how you see yourself and your salon's value as an owner affects how your clients see you. This can determine if they spread the word and recommend you to their friends. So, as a leader, don't forget that the vibe you give off can have a big impact.

Every once in a while I come across an article and I think, wow, my listeners would love this. So after reading this one article, I came up with eight statements that sets apart a super successful salon owner from an average one. Well, hey there, this is Danise. And this is the salon ownership Made Easy podcast for salon owners who are searching for simple solutions to their everyday challenges. I've owned several six and seven figure award winning salons in my 30 year career. With so many changes happening in our industry these days, it seems like salon owners need a shoulder a hug and a big dose of reality. Think about it. We didn't learn how to be successful salon owners and beauty school. So why don't you let me share what has worked and what hasn't worked for me over the years, you do have what it takes to be amazingly successful. So let's do this. I'm excited you're here. Lately, I've been hearing a lot about mindset. And mindset is a huge powerful thing. I mean, the only thing a person can control is their mind, right? You are the only person who can allow you to feel a certain way. And it's all in your mind. So you can take an average, yucky day, like say you just stubbed your toe. And you can either make your whole day, a horrible day. Or you can have the mindset of like, no, that's not gonna slow me down. Today's gonna be a great day. You understand what I'm saying? Well, I read this article about what average salon owners say, versus how can you change your mindset? And what would a successful salon owner say? So we're going to look at these eight statements. And we're going to play a little game kind of, we're going to see what an average salon owner would say, or an average sold hairstylist, really. And we're going to turn it around, turn our mindset around and think about it differently. Okay, so number one. This is what the average salon owner would say, I'm not in it for the money. I'm in it for the art. How many times have you heard that? Oh, my hair stylists, I'm a creative person. The money doesn't matter. Well, sweetie, yes, it matters. Why don't? Why don't you turn it around and say this? I value my skills, expertise and creativity and believe that they deserve financial recognition. What that really is saying is I have the talent, and I deserve to be paid for my talent. Not everybody can cut hair. We might think that because it comes easy to us, or color hair or do a great up do. But not everybody is gifted like that. You have to remember that not everybody can do their hair. So your skill set, you do deserve to be paid for it. Okay, number two, it's impossible to make money in this profession. Clients simply don't see my worth. Doesn't that sound like terrible thinking? How about you turn it around and say, I stand out from my competitors by emphasizing my unique qualities and carefully crafting my brand. This builds my reputation in the industry. Okay. Now, yes, I am reading that sentence. But let's just really think about it. It is possible to make money. In fact, I just did a podcast not too long ago about how there's actually been a study that hair stylists and hair beauty professionals are actually making more money than people used to think. And if you need to listen to that podcast, just go back. I'll put it in the show notes what episode it was, I can't remember off the top of my head. But clients do see our worth. They need us they need us to feel better about their self worth as well. Right? Right. Here's a popular popular one. Number three, I hate selling. Or I'm not a salesperson. Oh, my goodness. I have heard this one a lot. Well, we are all salespeople. Even if you're just trying to sell your best friend, the idea that you want to go see a movie, you're still selling them the idea of doing that. So why don't you turn it around and say retail products complement the services I provide for my clients. We did a whole episode on retail selling and taking the fear out of selling retail. Retail actually is the lifeblood of your business. It builds loyalty, it helps the salon create profit. It makes the salon make it so you can have vacation pay or a 401 K or Whatever the benefits your salon offers, there's so much to it. But please take, I hate selling or I'm not a salesperson out of your vocabulary, just switch that, whatever switch in your mind and get it out of your vocabulary. Number four, my clients come here to see me, not my team will, as a salon owner, it is about the team. Why don't you say this to yourself, I surround myself with positive successful people, hiring team members who are more skilled than I am. And my team is crucial to my business, because it is you build a team with a solid culture who believe in the same vision that you believe and there is nowhere to go. But up. Believe that, wow. Number five, I need to discount in order to get clients in how many people do believe that that they have to give a discount just so their clients will come in. Now there's some shoppers out there looking for discount shopping. But that's not your type of person. You don't want the person that just wants the lowest price. Here's what you say, instead, I prioritize exceptional care for each client, which earns me their respect and loyalty. Because that is exactly what you want. You want to gain respect and loyalty of the people that are sitting in your chair. And you don't get that by discounting your services. Now you can add value to your services. But don't discount. You won't make any money. Number six, you can't make the same amount of money in the salon industry that you could 15 years ago. Yes, you can 15 years ago, oh, it was a whole different scenario. You you I would have to triple book myself, to make the money that people are making now working 27 hours a week. Here's what you want to say to yourself your mindset since I hired top notch specialists to assist me in the salon so I can focus on expanding and growing my business. Yeah, you hire an assistant who wants to follow in your footsteps. So you teach them all the things that you've learned. And oh, by the way, they're helping you to actually get more services in your chair. And they're learning. You're mentoring, and you're giving back and you're serving and the clients in your chair are seeing that you love to teach what you're doing. And they see the passion. Do you see how this is full circle is a wonderful, wonderful thing. Okay, number seven, I can't afford to spend a day outside the salon. It won't run by itself. Oh, yes. I used to have that mindset too. As a salon owner, I felt like I had to be there and I had to be behind the chair. Well, that's not really the truth. You can work yourself to death. And then you just get burnout. So why don't we use this this sentence right here. Thanks to my success. I can indulge my passion for hair and beauty outside of work and travel the world. How about you print that out and put it on your bathroom mirror. That's that's actually a great mindset. Again, you build your team, your team helps you helps the salon, you help them full circle. And everybody will have enough time and enough money and enough success to go around. Number eight. Here's the one I hear a lot from salon owners these days. There is no way I can see myself being able to retire anytime soon. Will if you have done all the things and helped your team become successful. There is a way to retire. How about you shift your mindset to this sense right here. I aim to make the most of my profession to provide a wonderful life for my family and donate to worthy causes. My success and the experiences I offer to my clients make the world a better place. Isn't that a nice mindset? It really truly is how you think of things. And if you allow negative thought processes to enter your mind. It it doesn't make doesn't serve you. Let's just say that it doesn't serve you very well. It's a pretty huge difference in this mindset. When I read you the negative statements and then turn around and read you that the opposite. It's pretty different. So let's not get too deep, but how you see yourself in your salons. value as an owner affects how your clients see you. And this can determine if they spread the word and recommend you to their friends or not. So as a leader, don't forget that the vibe you give off can make a big impact to those around you. Not only your team, but your clients and actually your community. Think about that. If you'd like a list, this list printed out, it will be in the show notes. But you know, just DM me, send me a quick little message. I'll send you this list. It's nice to print them out, put them on your bathroom mirror and remind yourself that you know we're all in this together. And we can keep the conversation going and be to each other support group. So hopefully this has helped you. And until next time, stay awesome. Hey there thanks so much for listening to the salon ownership Made Easy podcast today. Would you do us a favor? If you got value out of this week's episode? Will you share it with your friends? And while you're at it, go ahead and leave us a review.
