Let's face it beauty school didn't prepare us for the real world of Salon ownership, but with the right techniques, systems and mindset, you can achieve amazing success. With over 30 years of experience and four successful salons under my belt, including two that hit over seven figures, I've learned a thing or two about what works and what doesn't. So buckle up and get ready for some practical tips and real talk. Let's do this. Well, hey there, and welcome back to another episode of the podcast. Today we're going to dive into a topic that's absolutely crucial for modern salons the importance of having a well-designed website. I can't stress enough how vital it is to keep up with the times. I know as a salon owner. You have so much to do and it isn't easy, even though my podcast says it is. It's not easy. Every day you have something you have to take care of. But I want to stress to you how important it is to have a website. It's not just a digital brochure, it's a key to your success.

Speaker 1:

Let me tell you a little example of an experience I just had. I was looking up a local salon that came across on my social media feed. I was curious about it. I really wanted to know a little bit more about it, so I clicked on it and then I did a web Google search for this salon. It did come up with their social media, their Instagram account. Then it said I couldn't figure out a way to book an appointment. In fact, on their Instagram it didn't even say where they were located. Now, I knew they were local to me, but if anyone saw them on Instagram they do beautiful work, so I know they're out there, right? You wouldn't even know where the salon was located. For one and two, you kind of want to know a little bit more about the salon that you're getting ready to spend money at, other than those like three little lines that Instagram gives you, right? You know what I mean? It's really hard to tell about yourself in three little lines on Instagram. Now, I know Instagram is easy. I know it's the place that people go. But you know a website.

Speaker 1:

There are reasons to have a website, a well designed website. It matters for your salon success. Okay, so let's let's explore some of the reasons why. First of all, first impressions this is typically your very first interaction with a potential client for your salon, right, am I right? They Google you. They Google the name of the salon. Your website should come up, not your social media accounts, not your Facebook. That's not that to me, that doesn't seem like you're seriously in the game of business. To me, that looks like maybe a stylist that opened a salon and is hoping for the best. Okay, a well designed website. It conveys your professionalism. Okay, professionalism, your attention to detail and your commitment to our industry. These are all really crucial, crucial points for winning over new clients, and isn't that what you're in the game to do is to get new clients in your door, right, I know.

Speaker 1:

And your website? First and foremost, you should really try to get the domain name of your salon. Don't get all, don't try to get all fancy with I don't even know what. Try to get the name of your salon, whatever it is. I know, for example, my salon's name was Zanadu. Okay, when we went to go get the domain for that, zanadu was taken, and I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars to buy it off of somebody and nor do you, right. So what we did is we used hair Zanadu and we used it on everything. It wasn't perfect, but it was close enough. Okay. So hair Zanadu and it was easy to say, it rolled off the tongue and we used it, like I said, on all of our marketing and it came up first in Google search Hair Zanadu. So, anyway, make sure your domain name reflects your salon name, okay.

Speaker 1:

Second reason why a website is so important it really does showcase your talent right, and as experts in the beauty industry, we know the power of visuals. We got to see that hair right and your website's your canvas. It's your place to showcase your work from either. If you specialize in trendy haircuts or hair extensions or makeovers, show the people what they're looking for On Instagram or your social media accounts. It goes away and people don't have time to just go, go, go. Put your best work on your website, what this does. This builds trust and it also makes it so people want to book appointments right. Which leads me to another thing you should have online booking on your website and it should be clearly, clearly defined where you book an appointment.

Speaker 1:

Don't you hate it when you're trying to book an appointment somewhere and you can't do it online? Nobody wants to pick up the phone. I don't, and I know you don't. Either we are lazy or we don't want to talk to anybody who don't want to go through. Push one for receptionist, push two for directions. No, people don't have time for that. They want to click on your website and book an appointment. I do it with my dog groomer, I do it all over the place my eye doctor, my dentist. We don't have time to make a phone call anymore. It's crazy world we are in.

Speaker 1:

But your online booking whether you like online booking or not, this has to be. It's imperative to have online booking, at least the opportunity for new clients to book an appointment. I don't care how you define it, how you set it up, whether it's a free consultation, whether it they have to go through some kind of survey to see what kind of appointment they're trying to make I don't know. But online booking is a game changer for your salon operations, okay, and it helps empower your clients to book on their time and at their convenience. So you have to have online booking and your POS system should make it really easy for you.

Speaker 1:

Another thing it has to be really easy to navigate. Don't get all funky, scroll and scroll and scroll and have that your bar up there and just say, hey, here's our services, here's our online booking, here's a little bit about our team, whatever. But make it really easy, real streamlined, real easy to navigate. Make sure your pictures load quickly, make sure that it looks good on a phone or an iPad or a desktop All these things. You want it to be a smooth, hassle-free experience and you want to keep your visitors engaged. Right, you want them to go wow, that's really cool, that's great salon. They really, they really get it.

Speaker 1:

The last thing that a website conveys is your branding and your consistency. Your salon's website is an extension of your brand. It's got to have your salon colors, your salon fonts, your salon logo, your salon pictures. It just communicates your salon's unique style and your story. So if you have a unique story to share, like why did you become a salon owner? Why did your salon open? Whatever, put that on the website. It really does add a personal touch. So when new clients are finding you. They want to know your why. So you have to be consistent in your design, your colors and your messaging. It all reinforces your brand identity.

Speaker 1:

Now, look, I know that designing a website can seem daunting and it just added to the list of all the things you need to do as a salon owner, but this should be even before you open your doors as a new salon owner, you should be having this. Having it done. Now look, there's experts and platforms available out there that can help you create a stunning online presence, if you have time to do so. In fact, it's actually something that I offer. I can help you design your salon website and make it really easy for you to upkeep. Or, if you like, I can offer the monthly upkeep as well. It's just a little service fee. So if you want more information on that, just head over to my website, salonownershipmadeeasycom, and we can get started. It's easy as that. I can have you up and running within a few days or a week. It just depends on how much you got to add to it.

Speaker 1:

So pictures and logos and hey, maybe you don't even have a logo, maybe you don't even have a color scheme. We would sit down and we would discuss all of that. What's your story? What are you trying to communicate? What is it about you that makes you special that people would want to come see you? So there you have it the five really really reasons that a well-designed website matters for your salon First impressions. Absolutely. It showcases your talent. Get those beautiful pictures out there, let the community see what you do and what you specialize in. Make sure it's really easy to navigate. All your pictures load quickly and it can be seen on iPhones, on iPads, on desktops, and it all makes sense. Make sure you have your online booking on there and make sure it's consistent. Make sure all your branding's consistent your fonts, your colors.

Speaker 1:

Okay, I know it, a website is a tool for attracting and retaining clients. It really is, and it makes you look like you are dedicated to your salon and to your commitment to your community and you're committed to making your clients look and feel their best. I know it's a lot to ask of a website, but it's true. It's so frustrating to look up a new business and they don't have a website. It is so frustrating. Now, I know the younger generation. They might not have a problem with that, but if your guests and let me tell you, the older guests have that disposable income that they wanna spend at your salon. They need a website. That's what they're used to. Just think about that for a minute.

Speaker 1:
