The Big Question: To Wash or Not?

Old Advice vs New Products

Come As You Are: Why It Helps

SPEAKER_00

Well, hey there, and welcome to Straight from the Stylist Chair. This is a special QA series here on All About Hair. I'm your host, Denise Keilitz, and I'm here to answer the real questions clients ask in the salon so you can feel confident and love every visit. Welcome back to Straight from the Stylist Chair, where we answer the real life salon questions you've always wondered about. Today's question: Should I wash my hair before my appointment? Ah, to wash or not to wash before your apartment appointment. That's the big question. You know, clients feel awkward about arriving with dirty hair or freshly styled hair. They're unsure about what's expected from them. Totally get it. We used to be told that if you're going to get your hair colored, to arrive to the salon with dirty hair because the oils on your scalp used to help protect you from the color irritating your scalp. Not so much anymore. Um, you know, we've got newer products. The the um we actually need clean hair to be able to work with the the better quality products on your hair because there's smaller molecules and they don't cut through all that oil and dirt. But yeah, I get it. Mixed advice online and different salon routines add to the confusion of to wash or not to wash. So here's the truth. Usually, usually, just come as you are. Stylists love seeing how you normally wear your hair. If that's in a ponytail or a bun all day, then come like that. If it's in a baseball cap, come like that. If you uh wear it styled completely every single day, do that then. It doesn't matter, be you. We will shampoo your hair if we need to shampoo your hair. It just helps us understand your routine and what your hair is like day to day when you come in the salon as is. If you're coming in for a color service though, please do avoid heavy oils or styling products, you know, a few days before, you know, if you're not going to shampoo your hair beforehand. Um, just depends on your service that you're getting done. So the real story is you feel relaxed walking in, and we get a better sense of your real hair, which leads to better results. Hey, thanks for hanging out with me today. I hope today's chat helps you walk into your next appointment feeling totally confident.
