Well, hey there, and welcome to Straight from the Stylist Chair. This is a special QA series here on All About Hair. I'm your host, Denise Keilitz, and I'm here to answer the real questions clients ask in the salon so you can feel confident and love every visit. Hey there and welcome back to Straight from the Stylist Chair, the QA mini-series here on All About Hair. I'm Denise Keilitz helping you love your hair and feel confident in the chair. Today's question is why does my salon blow dry look better than mine? Well, have you ever wondered why that is? Why does your blowout at the salon last for days, but yours at home flops by noon? Let's talk salon secrets, shall we? Okay. So here's the problem. Your clients feel frustrated when their at-home blowouts don't come close to salon smoothness or volume. I totally get it. Most people, though, when they're at home, they skip the sectioning or they angle their blow dryer wrong, or they use the wrong brush. Or they do all three. And this makes all the difference. Here's what to do behind the chair. Here's what we do as stylists behind the chair. We always, first of all, blow dry it about 80% dry with a nozzle in the direction or the opposite direction that you want the hair to lay, depending on if you want smoothness or if you want volume. And then we section the hair into manageable parts. Usually you start at the nape and you work your way up to the top of the head. Always use a nozzle and point it downward for smoothness. That's going to seal that cuticle so you get shiny hair. You always want to pick the right brush, round for volume, paddle for sleek. And always, always use heat protectant and finish it with maybe use your cool shot to lock the shape in. If you don't have a cool shot, just make sure you don't touch the hair until the hair is 100% cool, and then you can run your finger or your brush through that set blow dry finish. So there you have it. Your blow dry is going to last longer, it's going to look more polished, and it feels almost pro without spending an hour fighting frizz. Hey, thanks for hanging out with me today. I hope today's chat helps you walk into your next appointment feeling totally confident. For more tips and stories, keep listening to the full All About Hair podcast and grab the free resource in the show notes. Until next time, I'll save you a seat in the chair.
