What happens when a single moment changes everything?
On a September night in Texas, a 19 year old college sophomore ran out of gas. There was no shoulder on the road. A car traveling 60 miles an hour struck him. In seconds, Chad Williamson lost his right leg. In the months that followed, he endured 21 surgeries, relentless physical pain, and a future that looked nothing like the one he had imagined.
But the deepest wounds were invisible.
Beneath the prosthetic fittings and hospital visits, depression quietly took hold. Pain medication became dependency. Dependency became heroin. The young man who once dreamed of running a family business found himself homeless, incarcerated, and barely alive. His mother Sheila watched her six foot son wither to 130 pounds, covered in infection, whispering across a coffee shop table, “I’m almost done, Mom.”
Yet even in the darkest moments, faith did not leave them.
Through surrender, treatment, and the courage to finally revisit the trauma he refused to face for 14 years, Chad experienced what he calls a light turning back on. Today, he works in recovery, mentors others battling addiction, co hosts the podcast This Pink Cloud, and uses his scars as proof that redemption is possible. Sheila, determined to help other families navigate addiction with clarity and compassion, wrote a book so no parent would feel as alone as she once did.
This is not just a story about survival. It is a story about perspective. About how pain can either imprison you or refine you. About how service becomes healing. About how what feels like the end may actually be the beginning.
If you have ever felt broken, ashamed, or trapped in your past, this conversation will remind you that your story is not over. It may be preparing you to save someone else.
P.S. If this episode speaks to you, reach out to someone today and start the conversation you have been avoiding. Healing begins the moment silence ends.
