Okay, so we're diving into journaling prompts today. Okay, specifically for October. And it's not like a basic list or anything. We're looking at this source. It's called 50 October Journal Prompts by Lestallion and I don't know if you've ever looked through a collection like this.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:These are not your average prompts.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 1:These are designed to kind of make you think differently Interesting About journaling and maybe even have some fun with it.
Speaker 2:What kind of prompts are we talking about here? Give me an example.
Speaker 1:Well, like one of them asks you to have a conversation with like a wise old tree, and I just love that imagery. You know it's like. What would a tree, what kind of wisdom would a tree have accumulated over the years? It's like what would a tree, what kind of wisdom would a tree have accumulated over the years? What would it say about life and you know, about change, about the passing seasons.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:You know, yeah, it's just a really neat way to kind of access those deeper thoughts.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I think what makes that kind of prompt so interesting is it's not just about like recounting your day Right, it's about accessing like you said, a deeper level of reflection through that metaphor and imagination, and that can be really powerful.
Speaker 1:It can be, and I think you know, for me, when I look at these prompts, I'm immediately drawn to the ones that are, you know, kind of focused on self-reflection, the ones that make you think about your achievements. Maybe some of the challenges you faced, you know just those. Maybe some of the challenges you faced, you know just those pivotal moments that have shaped who you are.
Speaker 2:Right and it makes sense right, Because October is often seen as this time of transition in nature this time of winding down, and I think that really resonates with a lot of us on that personal level too.
Speaker 1:It's like a natural time to sort of turn inward and take stock of where we've been and where we're going, Totally yeah, and I like how some of these prompts they kind of they prompt you to do that in a very specific way Like there's one that says think of a time you helped someone this month. How did it impact them?
Speaker 2:OK.
Speaker 1:I love that because it's such a simple prompt, but it really shifts your perspective outward.
Speaker 2:Because it's such a simple prompt but it really shifts your perspective outward. Yeah, it's interesting you say that because it's not just about you in that moment. It's about recognizing that you know, even our smallest actions can have a ripple effect on others and reflecting on that impact can be huge for personal growth. It's how we learn from our experiences and become more mindful, I think you know, of how we move through the world.
Speaker 1:It's not even about like dwelling on the negative either right. It's about extracting, like, those valuable lessons that can help us grow.
Speaker 2:Absolutely, and you know, what's really interesting is that research even shows that focusing on those positive actions and their impact on others can actually boost our own well-being.
Speaker 1:Really.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and increase feelings of happiness and stuff. So it's not just about, like, analyzing our mistakes.
Speaker 1:Right.
Speaker 2:It's also about, you know, acknowledging our capacity for good.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:And recognizing how we contribute to the world around us.
Speaker 1:And it's interesting, you know, because when I was looking through these prompts I noticed it's not all like you know deep introspection, analyzing the past and stuff Like some of these prompts are actually really fun and creative.
Speaker 2:Yeah, absolutely, and I think that's such an important part of personal growth too. You know like tapping into that creative side, even in small ways, can have like a ripple effect on other areas of your life.
Speaker 1:For sure.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:It's like that whole saying like creativity is intelligence, having fun, or something.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 1:And some of these prompts really capture that.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Like there's one. That's like invent a recipe inspired by autumn. Ooh, I like that one, right it's like how can you translate those like sensory experiences you know of autumn into something tangible, like a recipe?
Speaker 2:It makes you think about the sights, the smells, the flavors of the season Totally and how you can bring them all together.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and I think there's something you said for that process you know of like experimenting and taking risks in the kitchen.
Speaker 2:Absolutely.
Speaker 1:And maybe even like surprising yourself with what you come up with.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and that process of like thinking outside the box is so valuable it is. You know it helps us like develop problem solving skillssolving skills boost our confidence and, you know, just approach challenges from a new perspective.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's like flexing a mental muscle that we don't always use.
Speaker 2:Yeah, you know that's fair.
Speaker 1:And speaking of flexing different mental muscles, there are some prompts in here that are really powerful in that they encourage you to think about the future. Okay, but they encourage you to think about the future, okay. But not just in terms of like setting goals, but like really envisioning, like what you want your future to look like, to feel like.
Speaker 2:Right, and I think that's an important distinction to make, because when we actually take the time to envision something vividly, you know, engage all of our senses and emotions in that process, it becomes more real to us. It's not just this far off possibility, it starts to feel attainable.
Speaker 1:For sure. And there's this one prompt that I love, that I think really speaks to this. It's write a letter to someone you'll meet in the future.
Speaker 2:That's interesting. What do you think about when you read that prompt?
Speaker 1:It's like what would you say to that person?
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 1:You know, and what does that say about who you are now and who you hope to become?
Speaker 2:It's almost like sending a message to your future self. In a way, it is.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's like having a conversation with your future self.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:You know, like sharing your hopes and your dreams, maybe even some of your fears and anxieties.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and in doing so, you're also gaining a deeper understanding, I think, of what really matters to you in the present moment.
Speaker 1:Totally.
Speaker 2:It's a powerful exercise in self-awareness.
Speaker 1:It is, it is, and sometimes just the act of like writing that down you know and giving those thoughts and aspirations a tangible form.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Be like the catalyst for actually making those changes or pursuing those dreams.
Speaker 2:Absolutely. It's like planting a seed of intention.
Speaker 1:Yes, exactly, and speaking of intention, you know there's another theme that I noticed that runs through a lot of these prompts.
Speaker 2:OK.
Speaker 1:And I think it's a really relevant one as we move into, you know, the heart of autumn.
Speaker 2:Mm, hmm.
Speaker 1:And that's gratitude.
Speaker 2:Ah, yes, gratitude. It's so easy to get caught up in the busyness of life, you know.
Speaker 1:It is.
Speaker 2:The to-do lists, the deadlines, all of that, and we forget to appreciate the good things. You know Totally, the simple joys, the people and experiences that make our lives richer.
Speaker 1:For sure. And these prompts they're not just about like listing things you're grateful for.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 1:They kind of encourage you to go a little bit deeper.
Speaker 2:Exactly Like. One of them asks you to describe a simple pleasure that you enjoyed and then explain why it brought you joy.
Speaker 1:It makes you think about like why does this bring me joy? Why is this meaningful to me?
Speaker 2:Right, exactly, and there's actually a lot of research that shows that, like cultivating, a regular gratitude practice can have such a positive impact on our well-being. Oh yeah, it can help reduce stress, boost your mood, even improve your physical health.
Speaker 1:Wow, it's amazing how just taking a few minutes each day to appreciate things can have that kind of ripple effect.
Speaker 2:It really is. And I think you know what I like about these particular gratitude prompts is that they kind of encourage you to connect with the spirit of October, you know, to find those unique things about the season that just you know really fill you with appreciation.
Speaker 1:Totally Like. There's one prompt that asks you to reflect on an October tradition that's meaningful to you, and I love that because it's like tapping into those rituals that maybe bring us comfort or joy or even just a sense of belonging. Right which I think is something that you know we could all use a little more of in our lives.
Speaker 2:Absolutely, and you know, as we're talking about all these prompts and the themes that they touch, on yeah. It's interesting to me how they all seem to circle back to this idea of personal growth, whether it's reflecting on the past or embracing our creativity or, you know, even envisioning the future or cultivating gratitude. Like all of these things allow us to learn and evolve as individuals.
Speaker 1:It's true. It's like they're all pieces of the same puzzle and when you put them together you just gain a deeper understanding of yourself and, I guess, your place in the world.
Speaker 2:I love that. That's a great way to put it and you know, that's what makes these journaling prompts so powerful. It's not just about filling pages in a notebook, it's about embarking on that journey of self-discovery Totally.
Speaker 1:A journey that can be insightful and enjoyable at the same time.
Speaker 2:Exactly, and speaking of journeys, I guess we've reached the end of ours for this deep dive.
Speaker 1:We have, but hopefully this has inspired our listeners to maybe do a little exploring of their own.
Speaker 2:I hope so, and you know, before we go, I always like to leave our listeners with something to think about.
Speaker 1:Okay.
Speaker 2:So here's a thought for you. What if October itself could write in your journal?
Speaker 1:Ooh.
Speaker 2:What message do you think it would leave for you?
Speaker 1:Wow, that's a good one. That really makes you think about the essence of October, doesn't it, melanie?
Speaker 2:WARRICK JR. It does. It makes you think about what is it trying to tell us as we move through this time of transition and reflection? Mark.
Speaker 1:BLYTH JR. I like it. I like it a lot. Melanie W.
