You’d think we’d have covered all things feed when discussing soy, but there's a lot more to feeding cattle than meets the eye.
Is it all as simple as we make out? Perhaps not. We discuss the ups and downs of seeking feeding perfection from farmers and those at the coal face of getting the best yield with the inputs available to the latest in potential silver bullets to end our climate change challenges.
We also discuss the positives and negatives of fiddling with the feed we put in front of cows.

CIEL has produced three Net Zero focussed reports which have taken us on a journey from identifying the carbon intensity of all UK livestock production systems, to categorising mitigating scenarios, and looking ahead at new innovations in technology, services and management required to address the emission reduction gap
The work we do doesn’t stop when reports are launched, it's only the start of the support we provide both for our industry Members and wider organisations where the impact really happens.
To discuss this, CIEL's Innovation Manager - Sustainability, Paddy Tarbuck and Head of Environment, Audit and Public Affairs at Basis, Teresa Meadows join CIEL's Head of Business Development, Helen Brookes, to bring to life some of the key topics within the massive theme: sustainability and net zero.

CIEL has commissioned this report to inform debate about nitrogen use efficiency and its relevance to environmental stewardship and food security. Nitrogen, an essential element for making plant and animal protein, is widely used in agriculture to drive productivity. However, its inefficient use can lead to losses through nitrate leaching or emissions (ammonia and/or nitrous oxide), leading to negative environmental impacts. As we seek to define and shift to a more sustainable food system, both nitrogen emissions and the value livestock add by providing superior protein food sources must be considered.
CIEL's Dr Mark Young and Katerina Karpasitou discuss CIEL's New report, and why Nitrogen is so important to livestock production

Current challenges in the livestock sector around environmental sustainability is on every one's mind. Especially measuring greenhouse gas emissions on-farm, but is it enough on it's own?
In this episode, James Husband form CIEL Member Map of Ag discusses what can be done on farm to help reach the aspiration for UK agriculture to be net zero by 2040.
James also introduces Map of Ag's NEW 'what if' tool. An online tool which identifies specific areas for improvement and quantifying the impact of different changes to help farmers make informed decisions about how to reduce their farm’s emissions intensity.
