Welcome to the Friday episode of the Dr. Sex Fairy podcast. I am Dr. Kanwal Bawa, America's favorite sex doctor, and I am here to transform your life. On Fridays we discuss the Bawa Sutra, my interpretation of the ancient text the Kama Sutra. Last week we discussed the idea of pleasure for pleasure’s sake. We talked about how sex and intimacy should not be a mean’s to an end, and that pleasure is a lofty goal in and of itself. This week I would like to elaborate upon and clarify that idea. You see, there is a big difference between pleasure and hedonism, between pleasure and wanton promiscuity.

The Kama Sutra states: “Without eroticism, the mind becomes restless and unsatisfied. Without virtue, the conscience goes astray. Without spirituality, the soul is degraded.” The idea is that pleasure and eroticism must exist within a moral framework. Sex can be intensely pleasurable and even spiritual but sleeping around aimlessly is not going to get you to that sexual or spiritual crest.

The Kama Sutra goes on to say: “When people are only attached to money and pleasure, the decadence of their country is inevitable. Only when profit and pleasure are controlled by ethics can they become instruments of spiritual progress.” It goes on to talk about “moral eroticism leading to spiritual realization.”
I believe that a deep sexual connection can indeed elevate the spirit and bring a couple closer but it is important to explore that connection while following an ethical code of conduct.

It is common knowledge that couples in committed relationships not only have more sex, they have better sex!

I want to talk about a disturbing trend I am seeing more and more in social media. A lot of self-proclaimed sex experts… and shockingly… even some sex therapists talk about using sex with a lot of different people as a way to cope with emotional trauma from past relationships. Firstly, why is everything labeled as trauma? When everything is trauma, nothing is trauma.

It’s like the boy who cried wolf. If you rashly label every negative experience trauma, the experiences that actually rise to the level of trauma don’t get their due. Secondly, how is screwing around going to heal you? How can it liberate you from your past? You heard it here folks! Having a lot of sex with multiple new partners cannot heal past trauma. If anything, now you have more emotional baggage… likely no true relationship or connection… certainly not love.… and probably an incurable STD or two. I am not the moral police. I am simply the voice of reason in a world gone mad. I am the sexual medicine expert who is actually telling people to calm the hell down, zip up their pants… and lower their skirts.

Sex is good. Pleasure is good. And guess what? So is having a moral compass. I can assure you that when sex, pleasure, ethics and my cutting edge male and female sexual treatments come together, you will have the kind of sex you did not think possible… with a partner that will likely be with you for better or for worse, in sickness and in health. I am not saying that you have to be married to experience it all. I am saying that you should at the very least stop swiping mindlessly on your apps, and come up for air. Until next time.
