The Sex Position Most Likely to Break Your Penis

Welcome to America’s number one sex podcast Dr. Sex Fairy. I am Dr. Kanwal Bawa, America’s favorite sex doctor and I am here to transform your life. Fridays are short episodes, 5 minutes or less in duration, and are my take on a topic out of the ancient Kama Sutra. Our Tuesday episodes are longer, and discuss a wide variety of sexual topics. This is going to be, as always, an excellent Friday mini episode of the Bawa Sutra, my version of the Kama Sutra. 

You may think that the Kama Sutra is old and jaded but it appears that we haven’t come up with much that’s new in the thousands of years since it was written. Let’s look at the doggy style sex position. It is very much part of the Kama Sutra in which it is called the Dhenuka or cow position. The woman places herself on all fours and the man penetrates from behind like a bull. Whether you are heterosexual or gay, the idea for doggy style remains the same. Other positions such as cowgirl, missionary, spooning, etc seen today are also described in the Kama Sutra.

If I am to ask you which sex position is most likely to break a penis, you will probably think about cowgirl or the woman on top. But is it really the most dangerous sex position? Let’s discuss this! A study titled “Relationship between sexual position and severity of penile fracture” was published in the International Journal of Impotence Research in 2017. This study looked at 90 men aged 18 to 66 with penile fracture, and divided them into six groups. It studied injuries due to masturbation, man on top, woman on top, doggy style, blunt injury and injury by simply rolling over. 

 

Sex related trauma was the number one cause, and the most dangerous position was actually doggy style. I must admit that I was surprised to learn that 41% of the cases were caused by this position. Everyone thinks that the woman on top is the most dangerous position with reverse cowgirl being blamed more often than cowgirl… but this study said that woman on top only caused 10% of the injuries in their patient cohort. 

 

I am aware that there are sources that claim otherwise, but this is an interesting study for many reasons. Whether the most dangerous sex position is doggy style, cowgirl or reverse cowgirl, the point is that while these are great positions for pleasure, they are also positions that you should be very careful performing. Avoid sudden movements, and be careful about the penis slipping out as you continue thrusting.
