Speaker 2:

You can get t shirts when I'm wearing them today, because we warm Saturday and they're dirty.

Speaker 1:

So we can do a little bit. Can't do laundry that quickly, I'm not doing laundry when football is on.

Speaker 2:

I came in a league.

Speaker 3:

We're straight for the title. Touchdown Marvin Harrison. Jr Marvelous catch, pass ransom. David Edwards Touchdown.

Speaker 1:

There's nothing quite like the game Michigan versus Ohio State. This is the rivalry sponsored by elevated integrity construction. Thanks for listening to the rivalry podcast. I'm Jase, that's J P. This is your garbage free college football podcast, focused on the Ohio State Michigan football rivalry. While we kick off with our little icebreaker route that we call wheel route, I want to remind you that you can watch this episode on YouTube if you're not already at rival pod, and it's that same handle across all social media at rival pod. All right, are we ready for this? And if you are watching you cause. You see, we've got the ads back because we not paying for that free version.

Speaker 1:

Now would be a great time for you to become a Patreon subscriber as well.

Speaker 2:

What have you learned so far this season? This is more of a broad spectrum. It can be about your team, it can be about teams outside of your team. What have you learned? A couple of takeaways. I know it's early on. We're heading into three.

Speaker 1:

I. I don't remember how long it's been, but this is the first time in a while that all five power conferences are represented in the top five, which at this point would be Georgia, michigan, usc, texas and who am I missing? Florida state. That to me is a really good sign. I know conference realignments obviously a big thing and it's going to all look very different next year, but I think for for the game itself to have every conference represented in those in the top five, all the power five conferences, that's a pretty, that's a pretty good sign for the game, that's a pretty good sign for parody moving forward even as that realignment shuffles. Good parody on the national scale. That's exciting to see.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I think for me I'll start with one from each of our teams. I think Michigan, in my mind, is better than they were last year. I think having McCarthy add the dynamic of the passing game and his accuracy the dude's just been on fire just pinpoint, accurate throughout the first couple of weeks, I think they're a better team. Mccord to me, clearly the QB one for Ohio state I just we'll touch on that a little bit later, but I think after two games, the eye test for me McCord is number one. And a final thing that I hate saying and I'm actually going to be mad at myself the rest of the day Good Penn state for the first time in my lifetime, legitimately kind of scares me. They are playing exceptional.

Speaker 1:

They're playing exceptional.

Speaker 2:

I'm speaking from an Ohio state fan and Michigan side, I think if there was a Penn state team that could beat both of them in one year, this team is built to do it Now. Will they? I don't necessarily think that's a fair take, but I don't walk into that game thinking we are the exponentially better team for the first time in a long time.

Speaker 1:

And we'll see how that plays out by the time they get to Ohio state and made October, michigan in early November, because they've played West Virginia and Delaware, yeah, but I agree with you that this is a team that I think is going to be a real problem. That's a good take. You mentioned Kyle McCord, devin Brown. Let's start with Ohio state 35 seven win over Youngstown state, before we even get specifically to the quarterbacks. I am genuinely curious how you feel as an Ohio state analyst, as an Ohio state fan, coming out of a game that to me, as a Michigan man, it felt like a yonor and pretty uninspiring football.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I don't know. At first I was a little bit disappointed. Then, after I had some time to cool down while we waited in traffic watching all the fraternity games happen beside us for like three hours, I kind of talked myself off that hill a little bit. Ohio state I looked at the stats and I was reading stuff. The new rule change with the clock and everything to me has really screwed up a lot of things and I don't think people are quite used to it.

Speaker 2:

Ohio state had 10 possessions. They scored on five of those. One of those possessions was literally one play to kneel out the clock. So they had nine possessions. They scored on five of them and honestly, one of them was a full drive down the field where Devin Brown no-transcript, there you go, yeah, yeah, enough. Said. He drove all the way down the field and then didn't convert on a short fourth down near the end zone for Youngstown state which could have resulted in another touchdown. So you're looking at six to seven drives out of nine where Ohio state could have scored on, and I will firmly say that if McCord plays in the entire game, that's probably a little bit different of a story.

Speaker 2:

Now, 35 to seven, I don't really like seeing that Youngstown state scored. I mean, going and getting it seven to seven at some point wasn't a great thing to see. But I'm not going to be like some of the Ohio state fans I've seen on social media and jumping the gun. The one thing I will say is Devin Brown can't take another snap of football unless he absolutely has to.

Speaker 2:

To me, there is from the spring game to these first two weeks against very, very mediocre competition. There is no reason and I would love if this ends up happening and I would love for Ryan day to answer the question of what is he seeing that nobody else is seeing? Because there's no. The offense clearly stalls out a lot when Devin Brown steps on the field outside of the one drive. Late into the fourth quarter they drove down the field, but you see even the mental stuff. He took a sack on that play and it's fourth down. Your up 28, seven with four or five minutes to go on the ball, my man throw the ball up there to your receivers and let them make a play at something.

Speaker 2:

The last possible thing you do there is take a sack. I know you don't want to risk a turnover, but it wasn't going to change the outcome. I'd rather see, I'd rather see you try to do something with the ball than just take the fourth down sack and give the ball over. You're going to turn it over on downs regardless. Make a little bit of a play. You've got to do something to separate yourself. Devin Brown separated himself further in my mind.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I've got. If I'm an Ohio State fan, Ryan day has got to stop pretending like Devin Brown is a legitimate option.

Speaker 2:

It's not a competition.

Speaker 1:

Nobody in the building. A hundred thousand plus nobody in the building thinks that Devin Brown is a legitimate he's wearing number 33.

Speaker 2:

He wants to play linebacker? Yeah, there's no chance.

Speaker 1:

And again by like Kyle McCord doesn't impress me, but the it's it's not the game you'd want to see, though, did he though?

Speaker 2:

I think so I mean he's he wasn't CJ.

Speaker 1:

He got. He got numbers, cause he hit two wide open Marvin Harrison's.

Speaker 2:

That's what happens with any quarter. You're going to be mad at him because he had Marvin Harrison Jr, who's one of the generational talents in the nation.

Speaker 1:

McCord makes bad decisions. He's inaccurate.

Speaker 2:

No, that is an atrocious take.

Speaker 1:

The entire flow of the game felt stilted and it was stop and start. Oh, how does he did not play a good football?

Speaker 2:

game. I'm hearing you right. You're mad because you're saying that, because our wide receivers are so exceptional, they're creating so much space that that makes our quarterback mid.

Speaker 1:

No, I'm saying that the only, but when JJ McCarthy does it.

Speaker 2:

I'll even throw it at my shelf when last year in the OSU Michigan game, are your guys, as wide receivers are wide open? All of a sudden, mccarthy has a passing attack.

Speaker 1:

JJ, rip your defense apart.

Speaker 2:

You can stop the test. You can stop the run.

Speaker 1:

Go. He's currently dropping dimes and is out of the game by the mid third quarter, while your starters also drop in dimes for recruits with cheeseburgers. Your starters are playing all the way through the game. Michigan's pulling out about mid third quarter, putting the two's and threes in, and you guys are still putting up just 35, 700 disappointing thing Walking from that, walking away from that game, and we talked about it a little bit.

Speaker 2:

I would have liked to see McCord play a good chunk of the game. Then I wanted to see him get taken out. I wanted to say, lincoln, kind holes, come in with some of the freshmen wide receiver group, give them a little bit of exposure, let them get a sense for the game. Only because I know Devon Brown is not the answer.

Speaker 1:

And I don't know if this has been said or not, because again I followed the Ohio State beat from a closer distance thing I'd like to, but still a distance. Is Lincoln going to be? Is he red shirting this year? Is that the? Is that?

Speaker 2:

the form, but you can't. You still do like four games or something.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I don't know if the fourth one is what cancels your red shirt or if that's the max you can hit, but either way, playing in those.

Speaker 2:

So he's not going to play against Western Kentucky. This was the perfect game to get those guys in there. Let them go ahead and see. Showcase a little bit of the future.

Speaker 1:

Cause you never as much as much as I'm in danger. Yeah, as much as I don't think Ohio State played an exceptional game by any stretch. They were never in danger of losing this football.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that to me was disappointing, just from a fan perspective of. I would have liked to have seen okay, we've got this guy that I've heard great things about, we have these amazing up and coming receivers. I want to go out and I want to see what carnell Tates got. I want to see what Noah Rogers has, and they played some, but not kind holds. I would have liked to have seen what he could do. So very minor, nitpicky things, but whatever.

Speaker 1:

The interesting thing to me too, is the. The run game continues to just be a big question mark for me. I know trivia on Henderson had five carries for 56 yards and so that you look at that you know well as yards per carry is like 11, but I I also that that is a lot of stat watching. If you you watch the game and I don't see a whole lot. It's running back by committee, which also makes it hard for guys to get in any sort of rhythm and I have that in my notes for a preview for this upcoming game against Western Kentucky.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and we can slide into that too.

Speaker 2:

There's two giant things that have to happen. For me, One you've got to pick your quarterback and stick with him. Kyle McCord needs to play the entirety of the game, Unless it becomes gross. Then you let Devon take the reins or kind holds. You let them get in and finish it out.

Speaker 1:

Cause you don't do this? Cause you've got Notre Dame coming up, yeah.

Speaker 2:

Cause this is the week that person's got to get as many reps as possible.

Speaker 2:

And so, to me, mccord has to play the entirety of the game. Unless it's an absolutely filthy blowout loss, then by all means that's understandable. Devon Brown, or whoever it is, needs to take the reins for the remainder of the game. The second thing and maybe some Ohio State fans are going to are going to disagree with me on this it's gotta be a one man show, maybe two man show for the running back committee. This flipping out of Henderson and Mayan and train them. It's not going to be successful for the length of the season. It just isn't. To me, this upcoming game has got to be the game that one of these guys steps through as the featured back, western Kentucky gives up almost 265 yards on the ground. This is the game.

Speaker 2:

If you're, if you're an average to below average defense you're travion Henderson, compared to your freshman year, where you were absolutely dominant. People are having talks about you being the best running back in the big 10. You fell off last year after being hurt. You come back this year and now people are saying, well, you're splitting carries with two other guys. This is the game he needs to come in and he needs to go. On the travion Henderson People think I am here, so I'm going to prove it and he needs to go.

Speaker 2:

He's shown flashes this year of still having that quick, elusive speed, being able to go and make the big highlight real tight plays. I would love to see him and Mayan be the featured back. Mayan may be being kind of the goal line back, henderson being the back for the majority of the game. This those are my two keys. Mccord's got to play the entirety of the game. He needs to be told out loud you are the clear QB one and then you need to see a huge day out of the backfield because going into Notre Dame.

Speaker 1:

Well there's, there is an. As a Michigan man, I'm looking at this going. None of these running back scare me. None of none of these are concerned to me at this stage in the season. Now could that change? Sure, but right now that's the run game, is not, is not a concern for me. And so what defenses can then do? Is they go? We don't believe you can run the ball, and that makes McCord's job that much more difficult. Your run game, your run game, obviously opens up your passing game, and so I. It's one of those things, too, where, obviously, as a Michigan guy, I'm not upset that Henderson hasn't been up to his potential.

Speaker 1:

There was one of those. And again, these are all click baity lists, you know, before pre-season or whatever. But I, I I got a little flack because there was one of these lists it was like the top 50 most dynamic players in college football this season and travian Henderson was listed like four or five slots above JJ McCarthy and I said this should get prison time. And somebody called me out and said are you sure?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, I'm pretty sure that, mccarthy is a lot more dynamic than I am still a Henderson believer, but I just think at some point Ryan day's got to be decisive. And he is such a weird coach to me because when we went to the Georgia game last year the dude was decisive A majority of the game, up until the final minutes, when, in my mind, he's the reason for the loss. There were a couple of things where he was indecisive and it cost them the game. And this year has been full, just littered with indecisiveness, from the quarterback position to the running back position, when to me it is glaringly obvious it's almost and I don't want to, it's, it's the same, but it also isn't where McCord is infinitely the clear number one when it comes to running backs.

Speaker 2:

I look at our group and I go you have Henderson, mayan and you have Traynum, and I think of it like McNamara and I think of it like McCarthy. I know what Henderson and Mayan are going to, or Henderson and Mayan. I've seen the lot of their work last year. Traynum has had moments, but I know where Mayan, to me, has capped himself. I know what I get from him. Henderson can give me the same, but there is a potential that he breaks something loose. I don't believe that Mayan has the elusiveness that Henderson does. I think he's a great big goal line back you get. You need two or three yards Mayan Williams, your guy. You want somebody that could potentially break off 60, 70 year old runs. When you handed to him, that could be Henderson. So do you go for the running back that is the big play potential or do you go for the guy that can get you two or three gritty yards? That's what I think they have, but I think you've got to stick with Henderson moving forward.

Speaker 1:

You've got to give guys a chance to get rid of them and giving a running back, it's just not there, or?

Speaker 2:

five carries like Henderson had is. That's not helping anybody.

Speaker 1:

Let's talk about the. To me, as the non-buck eye here, the most interesting part of this matchup with Western Kentucky is Western Kentucky's offense, because the hilltoppers as as subpar as that defense is, their offense is real good.

Speaker 2:

I was like 450 yards a game.

Speaker 1:

Austin read last year led the I had to double check. This led the FBS with 4,700 plus passing yards. The team also has a plus six turnover margin right now. So even though the defense isn't giving up a ton of yards, they've forced six turnovers in two games. The offense has yet to turn the ball over.

Speaker 1:

That's one of the things that I think makes this game interesting. Not that Ohio state will lose it, but I think it makes it more interesting than Indiana or Youngstown state where, when Ohio state let's take Indiana is maybe a better example when Ohio state struggled to move the ball well, at least consistently. Again, 23 to three against Indiana is not acceptable at Ohio state Just isn't. They have the same type of standards that Michigan has. That's just not an acceptable. Good day Struggling to move the ball. I said on the podcast and I think I put it at rifle pod on Twitter as well Shout out, I hate that. If Indiana had a serviceable offense, if Jack Tuttle had not transferred out, if AJ Barnard had in transferred out, Indiana makes that more of a game into the fourth quarter. They still don't win, but they make that a game. Western Kentucky now has again a sub bar defense, but the type of offense that could make this a game laid into the fourth quarter. Mmm, Give me your score prediction.

Speaker 2:

I've been giving it a little bit too much recently and I really do think that the new clock change for everything has really impacted the game. But everybody's got to deal with it. Yeah, and I think it's impacted even Michigan. I'm going to OSU 38, 10. Wow, I think.

Speaker 1:

I think you think you can hold Austin. Read the 10 points.

Speaker 2:

I think so. I did see an interesting stat, though, over the weekend. Denzel Burke had an interception in the end zone this past weekend and it was the first interception by an OSU D back defensive, back since 2021. I think is what I saw, so I think it'll be a great test for the secondary. I'm excited to see my guy a sunny styles come out. He laid some just an absolute smackdown on a massive tight end for young.

Speaker 1:

You're going to. You're going to have to get pressure on all pressure. I can. Berg's going to have to be there. Yeah, so nice, I was going to have to do his job.

Speaker 2:

I'm more concerned. It's the same thing as last year. I'm not concerned with the D line or the linebackers. I want to see the secondary and see what we've got. They're healthy.

Speaker 1:

They got a couple of key additions and there were a couple plays, even against Youngstown state, where they just look at Cameron Martinez, I knew you were going to say lost again. I think he's still looking for Cornelius Johnson, but it but that's the type of thing that you go Okay, once as a fluke, multiple times over and over again. And we saw it in the Michigan game, we saw it in the Georgia game, and again not extensively because you only gave up seven points, but there were flashes of that against the youngstown state too.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so I. I think the secondary is going to have to step up, for sure, but I've just been going to us too much power in them. I think Marvin Harrison clearly a huge X factor. Everybody knows what he brings to the table. You've got?

Speaker 1:

you've got what? 38, 38 to 10 OSU. I agree that Ohio state's got too much power, but I think you are disrespecting the Hill toppers in Austin. Reed said nobody ever. 34, 24.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely not. No way they score 24 points.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I think I'm being generous to your defense by holding them to 24 points.

Speaker 2:

I think your offense or mode in full effect is going to score a lot.

Speaker 1:

Your offense is going to score points, but I don't trust your defense to stop them. I do not trust Ohio state's defense against this offense. I think you guys win, but I don't think that you feel good about it. I don't think you're going to feel comfortable. You'll get the win and you look ahead to Notre Dame and go, oh boy.

Speaker 2:

I mean to be honest, I don't feel great about walking away with a 38, 10 victory. This is one of those games where, in years past, ohio state should be up 56 to seven or 56, 10, but the disrespect for this offense boy we're going to next week is going to be fun.

Speaker 1:

for one of us it's going to be me Speaking of things that you can trust.

Or find us on social media at rival pod. Let's talk about the university of Michigan. Not a lot going on against UNLV. I feel about the same as I did against ECU. Michigan was never in danger in this game. Jj McCarthy continue to look very good 22 of 25, 278, two touchdowns. Roman Wilson picks up now five touchdowns in the first couple of years.

Speaker 2:

Total last year was close to that I believe four last year.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, five If you count the TCU one, but that is a little bit triggering to me, but five touchdowns already. Clearly the wide receiver, one from Michigan, he's played very well. Blake Corum 15 carries, 80 yards, but three touchdowns on the day. So Corum looking like himself again. The one disappointing thing I would say is that I don't feel like Donovan Edwards has come on quite as much I was going to ask there's been something weird.

Speaker 2:

He has 56 total yards.

Speaker 1:

He doesn't look as and again, he has a very different style from Corum, but he doesn't look as explosive. He doesn't look. He doesn't look quite like himself. It almost looks like he's trying too hard.

Speaker 2:

You can't come out all off season talking about how you guys are the best big 10 duo and then you come out and perform like this Well, I mean, I'm still not convinced that they're not the best big 10 duo, but I do think that's knocking Penn States played Delaware.

Speaker 1:

But I do think that I do think that Edwards looks, it almost looks like and I mean this in the best possible way, for for Donovan, it looks like he's in his own head a little bit and it's not the same, but it's almost like when because it's not a battle for the starting job, right, corm's going to be one A, he's Donovan's going to be one B, but when it's like when McNamara came out last year and just looked like he, you, you could tell, even without knowing everything going on behind the scenes it looked like he was in his own head. That's almost what it looks like for Donovan, not that he's trying to win a starting job, but it looks like it. It looks like. The encapsulation was the ECU game where Michigan tried to hand the ball off to him four times up the middle to get him a touchdown.

Speaker 2:

Do you think that any part of that, do you think any part of that might be a little bit of frustration based off his performance last year when Corm was out being so dominant, and then maybe he came into this season expecting to get a few more touches than he's gotten, cause he what rushed only six times for nine yards Do you think that maybe coming into this season he was a little bit of like. We're going to split it 50, 50, or even 70, 30, and he's just not getting that.

Speaker 1:

It's a fair question, especially given the stuff that you know that Cade has said and you know which I also have a question about that too.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, we'll get to.

Speaker 1:

We'll get to Cade. It's college kids, so you never know. These are 18 to 22 year olds, or 26 year olds if you're Stetson Bennett, so you never know. But they don't seem to have that type of. They seem to have a good rapport with each other and they seem to. They seem to be friends and seem to treat each other well.

Speaker 2:

So I don't well, and it's not frustration at Corm as much as the coaching staff of hey. I'm out there balling and I'm not getting rewarded for it.

Speaker 1:

I think it's frustration with himself that he's not balling out as much as he'd like to be right now. So I and I think this this Saturday night is going to be a great opportunity for him. Against bowling green, you'll see a lot more of the same. One thing that I do think was cool and this has been all over social media from the UNLV game is Ryan Keeler from UNLV number 47, passing away over the summer unexpectedly and a high school teammate of JJ, very close. Their families were looking forward to this game together. They were looking forward to playing each other. Jj, you know, typically does the smiley face on one of his hands. He puts the number 47 on his non-throwing hand for this game and the CBS broadcast draws attention to that. They pointed out, mentioning it, shows some pictures of his time at Nazareth and all that stuff and immediately JJ drops back and throws a 47 yard touchdown pass to Roman Wilson you just can't write stuff like that.

Speaker 1:

And he said after he said you know, I, you know and I have no idea what JJ's face is like, but he said, you know, I don't know if that was something supernatural or God or what that was, but that was something special and you know, I hope, I hope that that maybe we'd some to ask some more questions about faith and all that stuff too. But yeah, really, really great moment for JJ. Michigan's offense looked very good, the defense I was impressed with the pass rush finally got home. That was the biggest takeaway from the ECU game Five sacks on the day.

Speaker 1:

Something like that, which again, a competition, yes, but when you didn't have it in week one, you want to see that turn around a week two. Great adjustment. It seems like Jesse Minter might know what he's doing, so good for him. Bowling green is a bad football team so bad. Bowling green is a bad football team. Of all the games that Michigan is playing non-conference, they progressively get easier. Bowling green is bad and Michigan is going to just roll over them.

Speaker 2:

Michigan right now 39 and a half point favorites on that and I think they cover that's pretty fair.

Speaker 1:

48 to seven.

Speaker 2:

We're going to be. We're going to be at the game. You can follow us at arrival.

Speaker 1:

So here, this, this is. This is fantastic. So we've done you know we've done a dozen dozens of OSU games. We did happy valley last year. We did the plus semi-final game in Atlanta last year. When you're a Columbus based media company cause we're an arm of a 104 nine the river when you're an arm of a Columbus based radio station or media company, it is hard to convince people that you cover Michigan.

Speaker 1:

Yes, Day in, day out week in, week out, especially being from Columbus and trying to convince Michigan. So this is a first for the rivalry and we are super stoked to be an Ann Arbor under the lights on Saturday. Again, shameless plug at rival pod, rival, rival pod across social media. We'll have videos, pictures, all that stuff. And again, a little push for Patreon as well, because your subscription on Patreon helps to fund trips like this so that content can get out, helps with marketing, helps with all that sort of advertising.

Speaker 2:

And it gives you lots of cool stuff as well. You can get T-shirts when I'm wearing them today Cause we wore them Saturday and they're dirty so we can't do long, can't do long.

Speaker 2:

But yeah, I'm not doing laundry when football is on, and so you can get some T-shirts. We've got stickers that are going to be on the way, some exclusive blog content as well, some bonus episodes, tons and tons of stuff for you to check out. We are going to be there, though, like you said, I'm going to be repping my number 54. Shout out to Anthony Hawkins, bowling Green Falcon a Ziggy Zumba all day Saturday.

Speaker 2:

I don't know what that means All day Mansell, senior high number 54, defensive line I'm going to be the captain this year for the Bowling Green Falcons 48 to seven, and I'd like to hear your prediction now it is 42 nothing for me Perfect, but I'm still loud and proud Go Mansfield senior alum, let's go.

Speaker 1:

By the way, you can find all the social handles and the Patreon link at riverradiocom. Slash rivalry yeah, not a close one, but under the lights is a cool thing.

Speaker 2:

It's going to be a cool environment.

Speaker 1:

As a Michigan fan, like I've never been to an under the lights game at the big house. They've got new light show this year, new scoreboard Like it's going to be. It's going to be fun.

Speaker 2:

And we went a couple of years ago to see the Rutgers play at Michigan.

Speaker 1:

And that was cool.

Speaker 2:

This will be the first time that we've gone there for the rivalry podcast to cover a game where it's not me being nervous going into a game because of my team. It's not. It's not being me. No, you're not going to be nervous, but we'll wait until later on and we'll see what happens.

Speaker 1:

I was told that while we drive up that, the Rutgers game has to be on. Is it time let's talk Rutgers to the Rose Bowl real quick.

Speaker 2:

I'm wearing. I'm wearing my Rutgers shirt today in honor.

Speaker 1:

Is that home field apparel?

Speaker 2:

It is home field apparel, shout out, they've got amazing stuff, the good brand not sponsored, but amazing. But if you want, to my father in law on Friday, comes up to me and hands me a box and he says this is an early birthday gift. Mind you, my birthday is not till November, so very early, okay, and he just goes. I think you're going to need this. And he hands me this box and inside of it is a beautiful helmet.

Speaker 1:

What's the R stand for?

Speaker 2:

Ruckers, I was trying to think of a pun, and I'm just not there yet, so well, I mean, you're in a good mood, though I'm going to have a new Rutgers helmet and they looked good. He got me a nice little mug, and then I got a Rutgers hat.

Speaker 1:

I'm ready to go, so on the Shiana meter after week two Rutgers to the Rose Bowl it's a five out of five.

Speaker 2:

still, look no chance going into temple. They were eight point favorites. They won like 38 to seven.

Speaker 1:

You don't have to give me specifics, nobody cares that much.

Speaker 2:

They looked amazing. Gavin Wimps hat starting to look like the quarterback People have been talking them up to be. The running game ran for over 200 something yards. The defense looked just as good as they did against Northwestern. You got to take into account the competition. Sure, this week they got Virginia tech coming to Piscata way. That's the game that I kind of had circled. Let's be a little real here. They're not making the Rose Bowl, but I know earth shattering news, but I mean I could be wrong. It's still five out of five Sheanos.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you can't see five out of five Sheanos and then say, well, they're not going to make it.

Speaker 2:

Realistically, realistically, getting into a bowl game this year seems like a thing that could happen. And will the rivalry pod be there? Absolutely, I will find a way to go watch Rutgers if they make a bowl game this year.

Speaker 1:

Let's look around the rest of the country as well. One thing that we're just going to get this out of the way. This is a garbage tree podcast. You can look up details for yourself. Typically, this is where we take a pot shot at Michigan state and we will continue to take pot shots at them but a Mel Tucker suspended without pay right now. That's the latest update. That's all we're going to say on that. We're not going to go there because some things just aren't worth joking about. So figure that out for yourself. Leadership matters. That's it. That's that's the statement here. Looking around the rest of the country, I am curious who your top six teams are, because what a shake up in the top 10 this past week. Yeah, yeah, crazy. Give me in order. You're so again. I'm thinking kind of like the football playoff selection. Show your top four, your four playoff teams in the first two out. Who do you have right now?

Speaker 2:

Give him in order right now I have Georgia one, michigan two I don't think those change Texas at three, florida state at four, ohio state five, usc six. Those are my top six. So right now I think until Ohio state beats Penn state and Notre Dame, until they go up against legitimate competition, I'm fine with people kind of doubting them.

Speaker 1:

Right now Well, yeah, I mean I and I. By the way, I don't disagree with your top four. I have the exact same thing. I've got Georgia, michigan, texas I don't know how you can't have tech they're not going to jump. Michigan, they're not going to jump.

Speaker 2:

Georgia, to me, was clearly a better team than LSU.

Speaker 1:

So then Texas beating Alabama is a bigger deal than Florida state beating LSU and Florida state beating LSU, at least right now, continue for the state look dominant. So yeah, I have no problem with that. I have Penn state at five right now because I just I continued it and I know like I feel like I go back and forth on them where it feels like I'm not convinced yet, but I'm I mean you're ripped on me for saying that they were good.

Speaker 1:

And then you said they played Delaware, so I ripped on you for saying that they are better running back duo than Corbin at this season, no no this season.

Speaker 1:

And then I've got USC at six. I don't know how I feel about USC yet. I think Caleb Williams is good, but USC also hasn't proven anything to me yet. Ohio state I would have at seven, just because again I'm not, I've not been impressed with their performances against mediocre opponents so far. I would actually, if they let's say they come out and win 38, 10 this week against Western Kentucky, I will actually be very impressed by that, because again I just think you're disrespecting the offense. The question for me is can the defense stop anybody? And we'll find out. So yeah, so we'll disagree there. Let's just rejoice together, though, that Alabama has dropped a 10th in the AP poll. It's beautiful thing, it's gorgeous. God loves us, and this is how we know. Texas is back. Folks, nope.

Speaker 2:

And now that we've said it, I hated saying that going to be led by Ohio state Great when yours so all right, so let's finish up here with stupid genius.

Speaker 1:

as a reminder, this is the upset pick of the week. We are keeping tabs this year for the first time. The rules are pretty simple you got five points. If you're upset pick wins, you got five points plus, whatever the spread was. I'll give you an example.

Speaker 2:

Let me give you an example. I think there deserves to be an asterisk beside this, because no, there's not because I was blindsided that this was going to be a thing last week.

Speaker 1:

Well, maybe better selections.

Speaker 2:

I know we were going to compete.

Speaker 1:

Oh my goodness, five points for getting your upset pick right, plus the spread. You must have at least a four and a half point underdog to pick them. I took Texas over Alabama so I got five points for that. The spread was seven touchdown. So I have 12 points in stupid genius this year. How many points do you have?

Speaker 2:

I would have probably picked that same game, because.

Speaker 1:

I didn't think we're playing whatever. Jays is a cheater. You picked NS six state who got blown out by Notre Dame. Who's your stupid genius upset pick of the week?

Speaker 2:

I'm not going to learn, so I'm going to go ahead and continue to be stupid about it. If you say go ahead, what do you think? What do you think I'm going?

Speaker 1:

to say I have a feeling that you're going to do something dumb and say I'm going to take Michigan state over Washington, or something dumb.

Speaker 2:

No, I did I honestly love, did have a thought about it.

Speaker 1:

Washington by security. It's much, much worse.

Speaker 2:

It's much. Well, no, it's much worse. Please just say it, do I? I have two written down and it was more of a in the moment.

Speaker 1:

It was more of a in the moment which one am I going to go with no points. This is why you have nothing, you're not wrong.

Speaker 2:

You're not wrong. Or? I'm about to have a lot of points, because you know what I'm going South Carolina over Georgia, 27 point dogs, let's go. Spencer Radler, I'm telling on you, get me back in this thing I never feel like you're surrounding the waves. Is that even the words? I'm feeling good, I knew it was going to be an in the moment thing, right here in the old heart.

Speaker 1:

I can't, I'm feeling it, I can't with you and I thought mine was kind of reaching, but apparently not. We've just set the bar, really well. I am taking the Gators over Tennessee. Put your people down. I don't care Tennessee. I don't buy Tennessee, yet I don't. I don't buy Joe Milton, I don't buy Tennessee, yet I don't. By the way, I don't buy is a home too Right and it's a night game. I don't buy Florida. Okay, I saw, I watched the grand Mertz's trash.

Speaker 1:

I watched them play Utah, but this feels like the type of game that Florida will inexplicably win.

Speaker 2:

It's in the swamp for about one or two of those a year in the swamp at night.

Speaker 1:

Graham Mertz, I think, is technically out passing Joe Milton right now. He is, and I just feel like Tennessee's passing a right, I think.

Speaker 2:

Florida is always do. It's the same thing with Miami. They're due for about one or two games. Where you go, you beat them Right and I think, playing at home under the lights, this could be one that they pull out.

Speaker 1:

So yeah, and typically I would say, texas is in that realm too, but I also picked Texas, or preseason, as one of my playoff teams and so far, so far I'm going to ride or die with Quinn Ewers, the mallet man himself. Okay, so, quinn Ewers, did you see his haircut?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, shaved, I don't know it's like a reverse. Why was there not an NIO contact on that?

Speaker 1:

I've read the Bible where Samson has strength because of his long hair, but Quinn Ewers is the opposite of that and I don't know what that's called. I don't know what to do with that and my theology degree is probably being revoked as we speak. So anyway, thanks for watching at rival pod on YouTube and be sure to follow on social media.
