You may be aware that here in the US we experienced some really deadly, destructive, and traumatizing hurricanes this season.
I’m thinking especially of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.
Helene caused massive destruction up the western coast of Florida before it rolled into Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. North Carolina was inexplicably hit incredibly hard and the death toll is still - weeks later - climbing as they continue to uncover bodies and the surviving lack the resources they need.
I live literally 5 miles inland from where Hurricane Milton made landfall.
In the aftermath of everything I did a lot of reflecting, as I often do, looking for the lessons in it all.
In the process of that God pointed out to me that narcissistic abuse is like a destructive hurricane, leaving trauma and devastation in its wake.
As we got involved helping with the clean up process I had 5 realizations.
These realizations applied not only practically in the moment, but also as it pertained to healing from narcissistic abuse.
Let's talk about these 5 realizations we need to think about when it comes to rebuilding stronger after experiencing a narcissistic hurricane.

Just getting away from the narcissist doesn’t make things all better.
Sure it’s TONS better to be away from that constant toxicity but that’s not enough.
We’ve talked with so many women who initially feel such relief that they think they’re fine and can move on.
But it doesn’t take long for the novelty of that to wear off and they’re caught off guard with a tangle of negative emotions tying their wrists and wrapping around their ankles, tripping them up as they try with all their will to act normal again.
What’s sad is that I’ve seen women get caught in a state like this for a long, long time, not realizing that trying to shelve all those broken emotions and painful memories didn’t make them go away.
What they need is heart healing - emotional healing.
This is very different from trying to apply logic and reason to what’s going on.
Logic and reason have an important role to play in dispelling confusion…but logic and reason can’t heal an angry, disillusioned, broken heart.
The good news is that you can partner with God to walk through a process of healing your heart AND kicking your spiritual enemy out of the equation.
Throughout this week Wendy and I are going to introduce you to the steps of this process.
It’s not a difficult process to learn or experience but it certainly is life changing!

Most of my adult life I’ve been in a leadership role in one form or another.
But then came the narcissist in my life. More than one of them actually.
With every hit from the narcissist I fought to get back on my feet again. I had enough strength and determination to stand against the onslaught of verbal and emotional abuse and keep going…until I didn’t.
I felt that I had gotten myself into a pickle and it was my job to get myself out of it.
So I limped forward, determined not to be beaten.
I was exhausted and disheartened.
The longer it went on the more my confidence eroded.
The longer it went on the more I felt unfit for leadership.
As a matter of fact, I didn’t even want to lead. I was too worn down to rise to the occasion.
When the time came that I knew the Lord was calling me to step up and step out again, I knew I needed to rebuild my confidence and belief in my ability to set goals, to win, and to lead well.
That’s what we’re going to be talking about this week.
Each day this week I’m going to share 5 “seeds of confidence” that you’ll need to replant and nurture as you rebuild your confidence to lead again after narcissistic abuse.

There’s a common outcome I’ve observed in professional women after they’ve experienced narcissistic abuse.
Where once they were bold and confident when tackling challenging goals now even though they no longer have a narcissist in their face on a regular basis it seems like their…
...go get ‘em,
...take that hill,
...raise the bar,
...give me a good challenge,
...go after big goals
mojo has run dry.
There’s part of them that remembers when chasing after goals was fun. They laughed at the possibility of failure.
But now, post narcissist, not so much.
In a moment of boldness they’ll set a challenging goal but the inspiration and conviction that used to carry them through the messy middle and across the finish line now disappears early in the game, leaving them feeling frustrated, disheartened, and even embarrassed.
What’s going on here?
This week we’re going to tackle the question we’ve heard so many times,
“Why Do I Start Strong Then Shrink Back In Anxiety?”
Mon through Thurs of this week we’re going to unpack the contributing factors to this problem to demystify what’s going on.
Then on Friday we’ll give you 3 helpful steps to get you back on track and moving forward as you learn to believe in yourself and enjoy the process again.

It’s the nature of a narcissist to drain your sense of power from you. They feel more powerful themselves when they know they’ve robbed you of yours.
Even when you’ve made it out of that narcissistic relationship, the sense of powerlessness you feel or can be triggered into doesn’t just reverse itself.
Those feelings of being weak, drained, less than, insecure, and like damaged goods can linger with us for a long time.
No doubt we fight against it. But the very fact that we’re constantly fighting against this is in of itself something that reinforces our belief that we really have lost our power.
Be aware that our spiritual enemy lurks around the edges of our life looking for ways to reinforce the message conditioned into you that you are lacking in real power.
But this week we want to challenge you to consider if that belief is really nothing but a straw man using the echoes of the past narcissist to intimidate you.
What if you’re far, far more powerful than you know?
I spent a little time brainstorming on this topic. In a matter of minutes I came up with 20 ways we can wield our power.
This week we’re going to look at 5 of those ways and how you can begin exercising power in each.
