120: Wireless Opium Dens of the 21st Century
In this episode, we explore the striking parallels between the 19th-century Opium Wars and modern digital addiction. Just as Britain and France used opium to weaken and control China, today’s wireless technologies—search engines, social media, short-form videos, and pornography—exploit human vulnerabilities to create a new kind of dependency.
We'll start with a brief history of the Opium Wars, then shift to the "wireless opium dens" of today, where digital addiction keeps people locked in a cycle of endless engagement while increasing their RF radiation exposure. Many struggle to give up their smartphones—their primary source of personal radiation—until it’s too late. But breaking free is possible, and this episode offers a plan to help.
We’ll also touch on a fascinating bit of 1990s tech that foreshadowed today’s digital addiction, along with an update on the Spring 2025 New Career in EMF Assessment class.
If you're ready to reclaim your autonomy and health in a world designed to keep you hooked, this episode is for you.

What if I told you that the digital world, your smartphone, your searches, your endless scrolling isn't just keeping you informed and entertained, but keeping you enslaved? The 21st century has its own opium dens, where the drugs are free, endlessly available and designed to keep you hooked. Unlike the 19th century opium wars, this time there's no government fighting to protect you. You stand alone, but you can still break free Coming up.
Speaker 1:Hi, this is Keith Cutter with EMF Remedycom, host of the EMF Remedy podcast, of the EMF Remedy Podcast, the most complete education in all things having to do with avoiding 21st century plague of electromagnetic poisoning.
Speaker 1:Whether you know that's the central issue of your life and you're needing immediate help, or maybe you just want to take a precautionary approach and not expose yourself or your loved ones. And we have a new group consultants. I've been working with consultants for a long time and I've never included them in my welcome, but if you're practicing right now, you're helping people in your various communities to perform accurate assessment and physics-based remediation to help reduce exposures welcome, this is a place for you as well. So, wow, my outline. I have an outline today because we have a lot of things to talk about and I want to first review the opium wars of the 19th century, because that might not be a story that is familiar to everyone, but it's an important bit of history and I think well, you know me, I love context, so I think it's a great way of internalizing and understanding. We've been here before as a civilization.
Speaker 1:This time the stakes are arguably much higher but I think we can learn from the past. And then I'm going to present to you a paper that I've written and published on Substack called Wireless Opium Dens of the 21st Century, and after that I would like to share with you a plan for breaking free of cell phone addiction and an interesting bit of recent history from the 90s, a foreshadowing of current digital addiction, and, finally, an update for my Spring 2025 New Career in EMF Assessment class. So here we go Now for more information on this topic. By the way, you can refer to Episode 96 of our audio podcast.
Speaker 1:There's a very real war in progress, with the thought that those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. I want to briefly review the Opium Wars of the 19th century. The Opium Wars of the 19th century were a series of conflicts between China and Western powers, primarily Britain, followed by France, over the forced trade of opium and its devastating impact on Chinese society. See, if you're like me and you didn't know history, you might have thought the Chinese were forcing opium on the rest of the world. That's not the case, folks. These wars were not mere trade disputes. They were deliberate efforts, I would argue, to weaken.
Speaker 1:China by fostering widespread addiction while ensuring Western economic dominance. So background and British involvement by the early 19th century, britain had a severe trade imbalance with China, as Chinese tea, silk and porcelain were highly sought after in Europe, while China had little need for British goods. To correct this imbalance, britain began smuggling vast quantities of opium harvested in British-controlled India into China, despite Chinese laws prohibiting the trade. The Chinese government, recognizing opium's catastrophic effects on its population, including mass addiction, social decay and economic stagnation, took decisive action. In 1839, imperial Commissioner Lin Zhu led a crackdown, seizing and destroying British opium stocks in Canton. Britain responded with military force, launching the First Opium War. 1839-1842, superior British naval power crushed Chinese defenses, forcing China to sign the Treaty of Nanking. In 1842, which ceded Hong Kong to Britain, opened treaty ports to British trade and imposed heavy reparations. I'm going to mention parenthetically that I was in Hong Kong the weekend before it was going to be turned back over to China. What an interesting time. That was Okay. So the Second Opium War and French involvement. So, despite China's concessions, western powers remained unsatisfied when Chinese officials attempted to enforce anti-opium laws. Again, Britain, this time joined by France, launched the Second Opium War 1856 to 1860. The war ended in another humiliating defeat for China, leading to the Treaty of Tianjin and the Beijing Conventions, which expanded foreign access to China, legalized opium trade and allowed foreign missionaries to operate freely. So the lasting impact the Opium Wars marked the beginning of China's century of humiliation, as foreign powers continued exploiting the country, weakening its sovereignty and economic stability. Opium addiction spread uncontrollably, draining Chinese workforce and eroding its social fabric Can you imagine? And eroding its social fabric, can you imagine? The wars set the stage for further Western and Japanese encroachments, ultimately contributing to the fall of the Qing dynasty and the long road to China's modernization. The wars were not just about trade. They were about control and subjugation through addiction, ensuring that China remained weak and dependent while Western powers entrenched themselves.
Speaker 1:The parallels between this strategy and modern digital addiction, where compulsive engagement with wireless technology results in behavioral manipulation, loss of autonomy and dramatically increased RF radiation exposure for everyone, are striking. Okay, with all of that background in mind, I want to present the paper that I published on Substack, and the title is Wireless Opium Dens of the 21st Century. Internet searches, short-form video, social media and pornography are the offerings of the wireless opium dens of the 21st century, where the drugs are free and endlessly available. Unlike the dens of old, the substances aren't smoked. They're manufactured within your own body, triggered by relentless digital exposure designed to keep you hooked.
Speaker 1:Many clients find it impossible to give up their smartphones, even the electrically sensitive ones, against all logic, their greatest source of personal radiation exposure Until it's too late. By revealing how the addiction works, I hope you, dear listener, might be willing to try. It reminds me of the original opium wars of the 19th century, except this time there is no national protection, as there was when the Chinese government attempted to resist British and later French efforts to addict Chinese people en masse, to addict Chinese people en masse. Now, dear reader, you stand alone in this conflict, with only yourself to rely upon for your sake and that of your family. Without firing a shot, the peoples of the nations of the world are taken into bondage using forces beyond common understanding, resulting in unprecedented and ever-rising exposure to harmful RF radiation. Yet an abundant life awaits those who recognize the deception and choose to break free. The modern smartphone is the Trojan horse through which this conquest is achieved, leveraging fundamental human weaknesses, convenience, amusement and stimulation to trap individuals in an involuntary, xenotoxic, worldwide pulse-modulated RF radiation environment that ensures continued exposure to synthetic EMF at both societal and individual levels. While many recognize the allure of smartphones for their functionality, few fully grasp the cost of this digital dependence. As it relates to my work, helping clients reduce personal RF radiation exposure, there is no greater step for most than breaking free from smartphone addiction.
Speaker 1:While many digital tools exemplify these forces, this essay highlights some of the most well-known and widely used examples. Each serves as a leading representative of its category, but the underlying issue extends far beyond. These technologies are not mere conveniences. Think of them as instruments of control, shaping perception, behavior and dependency at a scale never before possible, all the while increasing RF radiation exposure.
Speaker 1:Convenience the lure of search engine queries. Of course, it's shameful our seeming inability to conduct our day-to-day lives without constantly positing questions to the online oracles. But search engines, as one of the most widely used digital tools, epitomize the modern pursuit of convenience Instant answers, eliminating the need for memorization, deep thinking or research. Ubiquitous access, providing near-instant information. Retrieval from anywhere at any time. Minimal effort, reducing the need for critical reasoning by delivering prepackaged responses. Algorithmic influence, filtering results based on unseen priorities, subtly shaping perception, erosion of retention, replacing real knowledge with fleeting, externalized recall. Yet the price of this convenience is constant RF exposure, as search engines are accessed through, generally speaking, always-on wireless-connected devices. The world's intellectual landscape is being reshaped around this digital dependency, ensuring that even the most resistant individuals are subtly coerced into compliance with an EMF-saturated existence.
Speaker 1:Amusement the allure of short-form video Platforms like Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts exploit the human craving for amusement, offering instant gratification, quick, engaging content with no effort required. Endless entertainment, ai-curated feeds continuously adapting to user preferences. Low effort, high reward, minimal cognitive engagement for maximum amusement, diverse content, a stream of humor, music, diy projects and viral trends, interactive features, filters, duets and challenges that further entrench engagement. These platforms are among the most effective digital dopamine dispensers, keeping users engrossed while unknowingly subjecting them to enhanced, uninterrupted RF exposure. Wireless video streaming generates substantial EMF emissions, reinforcing a dependency that not only alters neurological function but also strengthens the infrastructure that perpetuates worldwide radiation exposure. That perpetuates worldwide radiation exposure.
Speaker 1:Stimulation the trap of pornography and social media. Social media platforms ex-formerly Twitter, discord, reddit, twitch, tiktok, live and online pornography serve as prime sources of artificial stimulation, a stimulation beyond what can be had in nature. Natural interactions. They are designed for continuous novelty, an infinite stream of fresh content, interactions and debates, real-time engagement, instant gratification through likes, shares and reactions, emotional intensity, a rollercoaster of excitement, outrage and shock value. Algorithmic amplification, ai-driven feeds engineered to maximize attention, multi-sensory stimulation of fusion of text, video, sound and interactivity. These platforms exploit and amplify addictive behaviors, causing a rewriting of the brain's reward system. The consequence is profound Mental fragmentation, dopamine exhaustion and emotional instability. Worse yet, they are consumed wirelessly, guaranteeing continuous RF exposure as users scroll, react and engage in high-stimulus digital interactions.
Speaker 1:The unseen cost of these traps. At the heart of this digital enslavement is the universal involuntary RF environment, enabled and sustained by smartphone dependency. Each application type search engine, short-form videos, social media and pornography provides an incentive to stay connected at all times, ensuring that the highest intensity of EMF exposure surrounds those most deeply immersed in this artificial ecosystem, and friends, associates and loved ones nearby. These apps don't merely encourage engagement, they demand it, offering no real-world equivalent to the instant gratification they provide. As individuals surrender to the demands of convenience, amusement and stimulation, they reinforce the very infrastructure that poisons them. The impact is psychological, physiological and ultimately existential, affecting not just the users but the very fabric of human experience and natural electromagnetic harmony.
Speaker 1:No unnatural sea of radiofrequency. Radiation equals no service and the role of useful idiots Without an ever-present, unnatural C of RF radiation, there would be no wireless service, a fact most fail to recognize. The system depends on continuous synthetic EMF emissions to function, ensuring no escape from its reach. Those who mindlessly promote and integrate wireless technology, believing it to be progress, serve as the useful idiots who sustain and expand this RF infrastructure. They unknowingly participate in their own subjugation, ushering in an era where voluntary and involuntary exposure becomes indistinguishable.
Speaker 1:A hard lesson breaking free before losing everything I received. Sorry. In my experience as an EMF consultant and, this year, a 40-year survivor of electromagnetic poisoning, most are only willing to give up this harmful technology after losing everything Health, wealth, joyful living, friends, family and more. However, for those willing to listen, cessation of personal cell phone use and in-home protection against the wireless trespass that's required to enable smartphones this is the single most important action anyone can take to protect themselves and their loved ones. The earlier one recognizes this, the greater the chance of avoiding irreversible consequences. So my conclusion of this essay the smartphone has become the ultimate instrument of subjugation, weaponizing our attraction to convenience, amusement and stimulation to perpetuate an inescapable RF exposure trap.
Speaker 1:By continuously seeking instant transactions, effortless entertainment and limitless digital stimulation, individuals unknowingly consent to an existence dominated by synthetic EMF exposure. Breaking free requires a conscious rejection of these digital indulgences. The path forward is neither easy nor popular, but it is necessary. By abandoning wireless conveniences, reclaiming genuine human connection and cultivating a life grounded in reality Rather than digital stimulation, one can escape the pervasive digital gulag. True freedom lies in rejecting the artificial constructs Designed to enslave and rediscovering An existence where EMF exposures Genuinely support life and health.
Speaker 1:So I hope you enjoyed that. I hope you find it thought-provoking. And if you are electrically sensitive and you're still using a smartphone, wow. You have an incredible opportunity to reduce your personal exposure, as well as the personal exposure of anyone around you. So I hope that you'll give that some consideration. Now I want to continue with an interesting comment that I received on Substack and also give you an outline. I mean, if you are intrigued with this idea of regaining the liberty that you once had, I'm going to outline a plan for how you might be able to do that. So let's go. And then an update on the foundations in EMF assessment course. All right. So I received an interesting comment when I published the opium wars on Substack.
Speaker 1:Here's what Janine Deal wrote, quote this article reminded me about 30 years ago, before most people had cell phones and before I was poisoned by microwaves, my daughters were in high school One day. They both came home from school very excited about what they were carrying in their pockets. Each of them had a small electronic device that would randomly and she puts in parenthetically, algorithmically made sounds or vibrate to alert them, and the sooner they responded to those devices, the more points they earned. When they showed me these devices, I recall that I was overcome with a type of rage, but I didn't know exactly where it came from. I had never gotten angry about anything electronic before, though I recall thinking that it was evil that such senseless and useless devices would even be invented to waste the time, energy and attention of young people. And I did tell them that I felt those devices were evil. They laughed at me and assured me the devices were harmless. This article explains what I was sensing way back then. It was like my daughters were showing me the precursors or appetizers for the full-on 21st century wireless opium addictions that were to come. So I responded to Janine's comment as follows After some research, I believe that sounds like a description of Tamagotchis I don't know how to pronounce that or a similar digital pet game device from the 90s.
Speaker 1:These were small handheld electronic toys that required frequent attention, often alerting the user with sounds or vibrations to feed or care for the virtual creature. The idea of earning points for timely response is aligned with the reinforcement mechanisms built into these devices to encourage frequent engagement. I outlined a couple of other possibilities If the school distributed the devices, involving the possibility of a research project, but Janine replied I don't think the school distributed them, but I will ask the next time I talk to one of my daughters and will let you know. I talked to one of my daughters and will let you know, though the name Tamagotchis sounds familiar and your description matches what they had to do, such as feed them and care for them in other ways, as directed by the device. I just thought this was an interesting discussion in the comments section, don't you? Lastly, I received an email from a friend on this topic, dear Keith. By the way, this friend is exquisitely electrically sensitive, and perhaps his entire family or a number of his family members as well. Dear Keith, I read your recent article about people who refuse to give up their smartphones until it's too late.
Speaker 1:I told my wife about it and it has really pushed me to want to get rid of our smartphones. Even though we're pretty addicted especially me. I want to make the switch, so I started searching for low EMF phones to reduce our heavy RF exposure. Right now we live with smartphones in our hands because it feels like our gateway to knowledge and the world. What I really want is to find a mobile phone that only does the basics, maybe even a two-way radio, so I can communicate with my wife that way. From what I've tested, two-way radios only emit RF when transmitting and receiving, not when idle. I don't even care about texting, just having the ability to call my wife and for her to call me if she needs to, especially when I'm out. Since I'm the only one with a vehicle, she often may not be able to reach me at the office if something comes up.
Speaker 1:I know your stance on mobile phones is a firm no, but what about those of us who aren't quite ready to make the full leap to certain concerns? My wife does want to keep some level of mobile phone, but she said last night she's ready to give up her smartphone entirely. Have you written anything about this? How to find a truly low EMF phone that only handles basic calls, with no apps or background data transmission. In hopes this might be of help to you. Dear listener, I'll share my reply.
Speaker 1:The best strategy that I've found is to keep your phones turned safely off or on airplane mode, but only after you've verified that when it's off or appears to be off, and when it's in airplane mode, it's truly no longer issuing radio frequency radiation, because that's not the case with a lot of phones today. But once you've made sure of that, that's the safest thing. And then surface like a submarine, surfacing. Okay, surface once per hour to check text messages, then turn it back off Once you've gotten used to that surface only once a day at 12 noon. So there was a period of time when I had similar concerns. I'm kind of giving a little bit more than I gave my friend in the email, but you know, somehow we had been led over a period of time to this notion that somehow we had to be in constant contact with one another, even though that's never been the case throughout the history of mankind.
Speaker 1:And so my wife and I sort of you know, we never did the every hour thing, never did the every hour thing, but we established that if there were some sort of an emergency, then we would transmit that information before noon and the other one, if they were away from home, or even if they were at home, they would check the voicemail on the wired phone. And that became our norm for a period of time, and then we found out that even that wasn't necessary.
Speaker 1:So I'm going to continue with my lecture Surface only once a day at noon. Soon you may find it's just been a habit that people have survived millennia without any time anywhere, communication that you can put your cell phones in a drawer and the world won't end. Pretty good, right now is better than perfect, never. We'll take any gains we can when reducing personal or familial exposures, and that was the end of my email to a friend and I hope that's an outline of something that some of you might like to try.
Speaker 1:As we've talked about many times, that phone, that modern cell phone, whether it's a flip phone or whether it's a full-on smartphone, is constantly emitting radiation. It's not just a matter of when you get a phone call or when you get a text, it's constantly emitting radiation the whole time that that sucker is engaged. It's turned on, powered on. So there is no better and the sources close to you are the most meaningful in terms of personal exposure. So if you're willing and you want to get a handle on this, I say pretty good, right now is better than perfect never. If you can't quit outright, try one of these reduction strategies. Okay, you'll surface once an hour. Then, once you get used to the fact that the world isn't going to end with that. You can surface one time at midday and once you get used to that, if you're ready, when you're ready, quit using them. And yes, I have been the complete route of looking at other wireless devices Ever since I was a kid.
Speaker 1:I was knowledgeable about radios, walkie-talkies at first. I was a CB radio at first and then ultimately I became a ham radio operator and I know all about FRS radios and MERS radios. I know all about local repeater networks and whatnot, and I've used all of them and what I'm saying is it isn't worth the personal radiation exposure I think I explained one time. I have a friend who is not very far along in his journey with understanding the harmful nature of RF radiation so that he could be continuously connected with his wife at home while he was on duty, with 48-hour or longer shifts. He had her in a mesh network, living in a mesh network with the children Wow. So I'm not saying this in ignorance. I have looked at all the different solutions and the bottom line is you don't need to be in constant contact. That's my encouragement, okay. Lastly, emf, new consultant training that that's really. That's really the core of this.
Speaker 1:I don't think I've ever said it that way before, but this is an opportunity to either do something in addition to what you're doing right now in order to help mankind, or this could be a whole new career for people, and I've been calling it the Foundations in EMF Assessment. We had our first course in January and I've shared my vision about what I'm trying to achieve with this. There are a lot of EMF consultants out there. Some of them call themselves building biologists or something radiation specialists, others they just go by a company name. I lump all of them together as EMF consultants and I just call myself an independent EMF consultant and what I have found is there are some outstanding consultants out there, regardless of where they've come from, whether they've been mentored by somebody else in the business, whether they've gone to a school like the Building Bio program. There are some excellent consultants out there.
Speaker 1:And there are wolves among the sheep. There are people I feel comfortable recommending and there are people I would never recommend, and we have precious few, no matter what. So this exposure, unlimited, unregulated, unnatural expansion of, in particular, radiofrequency radiation, exposure through idiotic programs like the Internet of Things, regardless of the stated intent, have the effect of increasing personal radiation exposure for every person on Earth. So we need people in every community in the world standing by, ready to help people as they become aware, as they make that correlation between their health problems and their exposures, or even before that, and I would say the majority of my clients are in this category. They're maybe not sure, but they don't want to risk their health or the health of their children, and so they wish to take a precautionary approach to personal or familial experience.
Speaker 1:If you are the kind of person that takes fulfillment, takes pleasure in helping your fellow man, this might be for you. It is my new training academy. It began in January training consultants. It's very exciting what's happening there. My announcement today is that we may have already sold out, even without formally announcing the upcoming Foundations and EMF assessment training this spring. I'll have clarity next week.
Speaker 1:If so, if we have sold out for that planned training in the springtime coming up soon, I hope that I will be able to add a second class, perhaps during the third week of May, so that would give people who haven't yet signed up the opportunity. Like I say, if you take pleasure in helping others, this could be an incredible opportunity for you. So, if you're interested, this hasn't been announced through YouTube or Substack other than to just a very few people who had expressed interest after I taught my last class. So if you're interested, you're hearing this in the end of February in 2025, you are among the first to hear about this class offering in the springtime Better get a hold of me. Better get a hold of me quickly Five days at the Eagle's nest in sagal, idaho. The nearest big city is spokane, washington to begin a new career in emf assessment, if that's your desire and, as I've mentioned before, I take a a no-trade-secret approach.
Speaker 1:I don't withhold anything. I'm going to show you exactly how I do things. You won't be able to learn everything that I've learned in one week, but you'll be able to learn EMF assessment from performing EMF assessments, which is the vital difference between my course and any other training. Learn EMF assessment from performing it in real life situations with clients. The class size is incredibly small because I only want to take two students. Why small? Because I only want to take two students. Why? Because I'm not going to troop 30 people into some client's home, right? And even if I did, can you imagine how intimidating that would be for this poor client who is perhaps sensitive or doesn't know? Know no that's just.
Speaker 1:That's just wrong. But with a tiny class size, like two people, I can involve them in performing the assessment. They'll see every interaction and it worked. It worked really well the first time. How am I going to get to my goal of training 10,000? You know what I'm more confident than?
Speaker 1:ever that I'll be able to do that. I am confident because I know this. I know that each new person who learns the basic assessment skills and begins practicing in their local community will have connections that I don't have. They'll have connections that nobody else has and they can bring this awareness and this ability to serve their local communities in a way that you could never do from any kind of a centralized organization. We badly need people who know how to do this the right way. They won't be able to solve every problem from the beginning, but they'll be able to start. They'll be able to make a difference in every home they get into and they will naturally be led to increasing their knowledge on the topic through delivering services in their local community.
Speaker 1:So pretty excited about this. The cost is $6,000. It's going to be $8,000 in the fall. That's the announcement for now. If you're hearing this on this audio podcast last week of February in 2025 and you have any interest, you better let me know quick, because my intention is next week I'm going to announce this to everybody. All right, that's enough, and I hope I've given you several things to think about. With regard to the wireless opium dens open worldwide and the lack this time, unlike 200 years ago, the reality that there is nobody there to help from a national perspective, that's going to try to intervene on behalf of citizens. It's up to you, dear listeners. All right, thank you for your prayers that our efforts will be a blessing to many.
