Their inquiry troubled King Herod, who feared the rise of a rival king and sought answers from the chief priests and scribes. These religious leaders, though knowledgeable of the Scriptures, were not actively seeking the Messiah themselves. They confirmed the prophecy from Micah 5:2, which declared that Bethlehem, though small, would produce a Ruler who would shepherd God’s people. This moment highlights Jesus’ identity as the prophesied Messiah and the fulfillment of God’s eternal plan to bring salvation to His people.
