Supernatural Season 1, Episode 13, Route 666 recap 🛻 Dean's ex-girlfriend calls for help, and this week's villain is... a racist truck. Yes, you read that right. A RACIST TRUCK. Berly and LA hit the road on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast, and LA opens with I take issue with this one. The acting was off, the chemistry was odd, and the sex scene did not meet our standards.

The episode starts in Cape Girardeau, Missouri (we cannot pronounce it), where a man gets chased down and murdered by an aggressive monster truck that acts almost animalistic. Meanwhile, Dean gets a call from his ex, Cassie (Megalyn Echikunwoke), who needs help, and Sam is LIVING for the tea. He wants ALL the details about Dean's romantic history and wears the biggest grin the whole episode.

Cassie is a reporter investigating why Black men keep dying on the same stretch of road, and her father was one of the victims. The mayor dismisses it all as accidents, despite the cars being SMASHED (Berly: You call that a dent?!). Dean and Cassie reunite, she barely acknowledges sweet Sam, and her mom shows up flustered and VERY dramatic with her teacup.

Episode Highlights (or Lowlights):

  • Chemistry between Dean and Cassie (more sibling vibes than romance)
  • The sex scene song (not what we would have picked)
  • Berly demonstrating the awkward back petting by hugging herself like a kid pretending to make out
  • Lighting so bad we couldn't even properly see topless Dean
  • Cassie being real DTF, according to LA's notes
  • Sam's adorable, mischievous grins, the true highlight of the episode
  • The mayor's liquefied bones (his insides became a SMOOTHIE)
  • The blue truck that is clearly BLACK the entire episode
  • Sam's master plan: "What if that didn't work?" "I was hoping that wouldn't happen."
  • Dean putting on his Terminator glasses

In the lore segment, we dig into the real history behind the horror: sundown towns, which we only learned about recently from Lovecraft Country and Watchmen (why didn't they teach this in school?!), and the Negro Motorist Green Book. Then we get into Stephen King's Christine, which some say was inspired by a real cursed car: the Golden Eagle, a 1964 Dodge 330. Legend has it that three police officers who drove it murdered their families, and that church members who vandalized it met gruesome ends. And the doors reportedly STILL fly open on the highway.

"I missed conversations that didn't start with 'this killer truck.'" – Sam Winchester
