Supernatural Season 1, Episode 20, Dead Man's Blood recap 🧛 Daddy's back! Jeffrey Dean Morgan returns as John Winchester, the boys learn that VAMPIRES are real, and the legendary Colt enters the chat on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.

The episode opens in Colorado, where an old hunter, Daniel Elkins, is scribbling in a journal at a bar (we thought it was John's journal at first). That night, Elkins is attacked in his home, and a very special gun goes missing. The boys investigate, find a letter addressed to their dad (hello, mail theft), and then John himself shows up, gets in the car, and informs them he's been watching them the whole time. Rude.

The Winchesters are finally together again, and the tension between John and Sam is THICK.

Episode Highlights:

  • The first vampires of the series, and their fangs pop out of the gums
  • John's reveal that vampires exist (and the boys are only mildly surprised)
  • John and Sam getting in each other's faces within five minutes of reuniting
  • John's super-organized, pull-out, automated truck trunk
  • The vampire screech heard round the nest
  • A new hot vampire character (Hank?) who's dead within two seconds, and our fourth blood splooge of the series
  • Dean finally standing up to Dad
  • Sam and John mending some fences, sort of

In the lore segment, we dig into vampire history, from John Polidori's 1819 The Vampyre (inspired by Lord Byron) to Bram Stoker's Dracula and Bela Lugosi. Then we explore real-life vampire communities: a survey by the Atlanta Vampire Alliance found thousands of people in the US who identify as vampires, from blood drinkers with willing donors to psychic vampires who feed on energy (hello, Debbie Downer), plus why New Orleans is a vampire hotspot.

Sam: "Hey, Dad, whatever happened to that college fund?"
John: "Spent it on ammo."

Your turn, hunters: Team John or Team Sam in the Winchester family feud? And would the Winchesters wreck a modern-day vampire or WHAT?
