Supernatural Season 2, Episode 15, Tall Tales recap 🧼 Urban legends are coming to life on a college campus, Sam and Dean can't stop bickering, and the Trickster (Richard Speight Jr.) makes his very first appearance on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. This is one of our favorite episodes so far.

The boys have been on campus for a while, and they are at each other's throats, so Bobby shows up to referee. What follows is the story told from each brother's point of view, and their versions of each other are GOLD: Sam's Dean is a snack-chowing, shot-slamming horndog, and Dean's Sam is Mr. Morality. Bobby's verdict? They sound like an old bickering married couple. Meanwhile, a professor takes a flying leap out a window, a frat boy gets probed by aliens, and something with teeth is living in the sewer.

Episode Highlights:

  • The brothers' dueling versions of the story, as told to Bobby
  • Sam's impression of Dean at the bar (accurate)
  • The frat boy's alien abduction, including a slow dance to Lady in Red
  • A crop circle on campus (of course)
  • The alligator in the sewer, an urban legend classic
  • A very cute janitor (Richard Speight Jr.) laughing at Dean
  • A tower of sweets that belongs at a baby shower
  • Our first tongue twister: How many tricks could a trickster turn if a trickster could turn tricks? (LA did not nail it.)

In the lore segment, we dig into tricksters, some of the oldest and most entertaining characters in world mythology: rule-breaking, boastful shapeshifters found everywhere from Norse myth (hello, Loki) to African and Native American traditions. We cover Anansi, the West African spider trickster who got out-tricked by a chameleon (which is why spiders hide in corners), Coyote cutting out the sun's heart, Glooscap tricking Summer into following him north, and why so many scholars think the trickster is one of the oldest figures in mythology.

"Sorry, I'm dragging a little ass today, boys. Had quite the night last night. Lots of sex, if you catch my drift." – The Trickster

Your turn, hunters: Whose version of the story did you believe, Sam's or Dean's? And did you clock the Trickster before the boys did? Tell us in the Spotify comments, leave a rating and review on Apple Podcasts (it's how new hunters find us), or send us fan mail. Bonus points for fandom fun facts we missed.
