Supernatural Season 4, Episode 22, Lucifer Rising recap 😈 It's the season four finale: Sam is loose and back with Ruby, Dean is stuck in heaven's waiting room with Zachariah, and the last seal is about to break, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. We started the season with Lazarus Rising, and we're ending it with Lucifer Rising. Coincidence? We think NOT.

Picking up right after When the Levee Breaks, Sam has escaped Bobby's panic room, and Dean is ready to let him go. Then Bobby (Jim Beaver) delivers one of the greatest speeches in Supernatural history. Meanwhile, Castiel (Misha Collins) brings Dean to a cushy white room in heaven where Zachariah (Kurt Fuller) has burgers, beer, and a whole lot of plans. Sam and Ruby (Genevieve Padalecki) are hunting Lilith (Katherine Boecher), and they're willing to do whatever it takes.

Episode Highlights:

  • Eric Kripke writing AND directing, with those gorgeous transitions from Bobby's study to heaven's white room
  • Bobby: You're a better man than your dad. (WE'RE NOT CRYING.)
  • Zachariah telling Dean what the angels REALLY want
  • Castiel finally deciding which side he's on
  • Ruby and a very unlucky nurse
  • Dean telling Cas he needs a bigger word than sorry
  • Cas carving a blood sigil and blasting Zachariah out of the room (the DRAMA)
  • Chuck, the archangel, and the prophet's emergency line
  • Dean muscling through that door
  • A finale ending that left us SCREAMING

In the lore segment, we dig into the legend of the Hell House at St. Mary's College in Ilchester, Maryland: the abandoned seminary on a hill, the stories of a priest who supposedly snapped (likely mixed up with the nearby Patapsco Female Institute, since this was a men's seminary), and how the property was finally sold off and lost to time.

"You stupid, stupid son of a bitch. Well, boo hoo, I'm so sorry your feelings are hurt, princess. Are you under the impression that family's supposed to make you feel good? Make you an apple pie, maybe? They're supposed to make you miserable. That's why they're family." – Bobby Singer

Your turn, hunters: Did you see that ending coming? And where does Bobby's speech rank among Supernatural's best? Season five starts next week!
