Berly and LA are sipping a tweaked Nerdy Tavern's Dean's Pink Satin Panties cocktail (more cranberry juice, highly recommended) while covering an episode that is, fittingly, very pink. Someone is getting misted out there in Idaho, and it's not rain.

Cas has reinvented himself with a gas station job, a name tag, and what he thinks is a date. Dean has a case and absolutely no interest in 24 volumes of ancient languages research. Back at the bunker, Crowley has one phone call and a secret hobby that Sam really wasn't supposed to see. And roaming the streets of Rexford is an angel with a cross earring, good intentions, and a catastrophically loose definition of "mercy."

Berly also drops a surprisingly deep lore dive on the biblical Ephraim, son of Joseph (yes, the coat, the brothers, the Egypt), and traces exactly how a figure built around healing and humility ends up here, pink-misting a teenager outside a school bus.

It's a quieter episode with a lot of moving pieces, and the girls have thoughts on all of it, including Nora's bowling outfit choices and whether Misha Collins has an unusually flexible wrist.

Welcome to Denna Wrapped Nightmares, a tipsy exchange podcast, where we explore the supernatural series episode by episode.

LA

Over drinks, we'll discuss the lore, the gore, and what we adore about the Winchesters and their adventures.

Berly

I'm Burley, and I'm a new fan of the series.

LA

I'm Ellie, and I'm here along for the ride. Now let's get tipsy.

Berly

Hello, LA. Hey Burley. We experimented with a cock. Well, I guess we shouldn't say we experimented. Well, we did a little bit. Yeah. Today we are drinking Nerdy Tavern's Dean's pink satin panties from uh the episode the end back in season five when he was interrogating himself and had to say something that only he would know. Yeah, yeah. And he said he put on those pink satin panties and he kind of liked it. That was the inspiration for the drink. It's good. I like it. It's quite sweet. It was very sweet. We did um, what's the word? Not substitute. We tweaked it. We tweaked it. Yeah, we doubled the cranberry juice. Yeah. And that helped it a lot. It was also very thick, and that helped smooth it out a little bit. So, Nerdy Tavern, I challenge you, sir, to another cocktail that hopefully uses Bailey's strawberries and cream. Because we have a lot of it left and grenadine. Yeah. I would like a trickster's red silk boxer's cocktail, please. I I I wouldn't want to have more than a couple of these in a row. Mm-mm. Like I'll definitely be switching it up after this. Yeah. But it's it's a tasty little dessert cocktail. Yeah, definitely. Very good. But I did I did like it better with a little bit more cranberry juice. Me did, me too.

LA

I was gonna say me did too. Me said too! I did like it better too. Okay.

Berly

So thank you, Nerdy Tavern.

LA

Yes, thank you.

Berly

Now, last episode was titled something that I do not have on here.

LA

Hang on. Oh, I wouldn't have it in here.

Berly

Dog Dean Afternoon. Should have been able to think of that. I had to look it up. In that episode, a taxidermist turned up dead in Enid, Oklahoma. Organs missing, body folded in half the wrong way. The only witness was a German shepherd named Colonel. So Dean drank a shaman spell and became a dog person against his will. Their suspect turned out to be a chef with a terminal diagnosis, who'd been eating exotic animal parts to absorb their powers, and developed a taste for it. The case got solved with an unlikely canine calvary, but the real gut punch came at the end. Sam is shaken by the chef asking, What are you? And Dean quietly realized the Ezekiel situation may be more dangerous than he's been admitting to himself. Bomb bum bum.

LA

Well, today's episode is titled Heaven Can't Wait. Can't, can't, can't do it. It is the sixth episode of season nine, and it aired on November 12th, 2013. Starts out at a little cabin in Rexford, Idaho, and there is a distraught man inside. He has the phone handle on the table and the it's the suicide hotline trying to get him to pick up the phone again.

Berly

Mm-hmm. He ain't listening.

LA

No. He's he is upset. And he opens a drawer, grabs a pistol, and puts it to his head. But he sees a picture of who I would assume is his wife and daughter or son. I can't, I don't know if it was a girl or boy.

Berly

Did that picture look like it was incredibly old though? It did, yeah. So I started wondering if maybe it's his mom.

LA

Oh, maybe.

Berly

Like maybe that was him and his mom?

LA

Yeah. Yeah, that yeah.

Berly

Because it looked like an old picture. It was very old. Like 50s, 40s, old. Someone. It was somebody special. Someone he he cared. Someone who made him second think things.

LA

Yes, because as he's looking at it, he couldn't he couldn't go through with it. But unfortunately, somebody else showed up to do it for him. And it's some guy, some dude in the shadows.

Berly

George Michael.

LA

But you could just see his little cross earring. Yeah. He was like, don't gotta have faith, the faith, the faith. The guy was like, who sent you? And he's he says, Oh, you did. And the guy's very confused. So then uh George Michael guy goes to put his hand on the guy's forehead and pinks him out.

Berly

Pink sink. Yeah. All over. Just he exploded pink. We got our 76th blood splooge, organ splooge, what a pink splooge. It was a pink mist. Yeah. So that's no father figure.

LA

Alright. So after after that poor guy's gone. After he was pinked.

Berly

Did he get did he get one in the pink?

LA

I I guess so, yeah. Or two.

Berly

Two in the stink?

LA

Oh, okay. Is that what did it? I don't know. I don't know. Alright, so then we see Cass. He is now working at a gas station. And he is like employee of the month. Just going around doing his duties, cleaning. And his uh coworker comes in, Nora, and she's like just fawning over how wonderful he is. He's the best. He's just such a great worker, such a good guy. Blah blah blah. Um and she goes off to get ready for her shift. And Cassiel sees a newspaper that is talking about um her guy from the beginning's death.

Berly

Presumed dead. Yes. Because they didn't realize that was his body in the pink, his remains. And Cassial's name is Steve, and he is dressed like Steve from Blue Clues. He he is. Yeah. I thought that was a cute little inspiration. It is.

LA

Uh, but yeah, so in on the newspaper, I think it said something like the fourth mysterious death. So, you know, once the boys see that.

Berly

Well, Cass Cass saw it and was like, oh, let me call Dean while I'm digging in some slushy.

LA

Yeah. Kevin's back at the bunker with the guys.

Berly

He's not in the motel watching porn anymore.

LA

No. They let him back. And he had a setback. Um, they don't really explain what it was.

Berly

Yeah, for some reason, Kevin isn't able to decipher the tablet anymore, but he's able to translate the tilet tablet to other languages somehow, but he can't read those ang those languages. But he was able to translate falling angels, and I'm like, well, isn't that enough letters? Like, isn't there like the whole thing that if you get five letters, you can figure out everything? Isn't that like us something with decoding?

LA

Yeah, you would think.

Berly

So I'm like, F-A-L-I-N-G. You got plenty of letters. Why can't you all decode just using that? I don't know. But they can't.

LA

No.

Berly

They can they can't decipher, they can only translate to Elamite. Elomite.

LA

The ancient language.

Berly

Well, he said cuneiform, and then he said Elomite. It's a dead language. Yeah. So they gotta research.

LA

Oh yeah. So they they pull out like I forget what the book was, but there's 24 volumes. 24 of them.

Berly

And they and don't worry, they have them all.

LA

Yeah.

Berly

And Dean is a great line. Not into it. That was a good line, though. And his his delivery was perfect. I know. Don't worry, we have all of them. Don't worry. We have all of them.

LA

So yeah, Dean Dean's not into it, and luckily he's saved by Cask, who calls him to tell him about the George Michael. Yeah. Well, we don't know him yet, but what it his doings. So Dean takes off, ditches the the research, and heads up to Idaho. And he's at the cabin and goes in talking to the sheriff about the pink residue which is being been discovered to be the remains.

Berly

Everything. Yeah. Yeah, he said hair, organs, nails, clothing, fibers, like it's everything. And it is pink. Mm-hmm. It is all of it. It's very pink. The thing that shocked me the most, or I guess it made me chuckle the most, was when they were standing outside of his house and those windows were just solid pink.

LA

Yeah, yeah.

Berly

That was crazy. So they got a body. And Dean goes, We got a case. Yep.

LA

And he kind of he goes to Castiel's gas station to see him.

Berly

To watch him from outside?

LA

Yeah, that was a little. I was like, okay. I'm hanging out watching for a little too long. Uh so Sam ends up calling Dean to tell him that they can't can't decipher what any of this is. Uh, and Dean suggests asking Crowley since he's there. They got him chained up. What else is he doing?

Berly

Ancient language. You got an ancient dude in the basement. Right. In the dungeon.

LA

So Sam goes to heads down, asks him to do it. Or asks him if he can. He says he can, but he needs a phone call. And Sam's not having it. He's he says he doesn't even say no. He just shuts the doors on him. Now Dean goes in and sees his buddy. And Cass is explaining that he's he's doing important work. He's he's got a life here. He's doing good.

Berly

I loved that whole scene.

LA

Yeah, he's very proud of himself.

Berly

He has purpose again. He's being told that he's really good at what he's doing. I mean, that woman's just fawning over him. You are special. You are not like any other employee I had. Like, and he needed that. He needed to be lifted up and feel like he was good at everything. Especially after Naomi. What did she say? Like, you're broken. Oh yeah. You can't do anything right. And now here he is doing this job, and he does a good job. He is a good employee. Yes.

LA

And Dean tries to convince Cass to come help work the case. Come with it. And reluctantly, Cass does. But uh before he leaves, is this when she asks him on a date?

Berly

No, she asked him on the date earlier in the episode.

LA

Oh, okay.

Berly

Now, that was shitty.

LA

It was really shitty.

Berly

It was not, it was not clear at all what you were asking him to do, lady. Right.

LA

Well, she knows she was like, she said, Well, you know, I know I'm off tomorrow and you're off too. So, you know, you could you be a by place?

Berly

We did think it was a little odd that after she found his toothbrush and toothpaste and sleeping bag in the storage closet that she thought, oh, this is a sign, let me ask him out on a date. We did think that was a little odd. Yeah. But at the same time, not once did you mention babysitting. Not once did you mention this is how much I'll pay you. Like nothing. Very misleading. Very misleading.

LA

Okay, so yeah, so he's gonna go help Dean for a little bit, and then he's he's thinking he has a date at seven that he needs to get to. So there's a girl walking out of high school, she's on her phone crying to her friend about how this boyfriend of hers just broke up with her in front of the entire school. She's so embarrassed. How could he do this to her? All that she could just die if she's so embarrassed. And right after she says this, somebody grabs her arm and tells her, Hey, I could help with that. George Michael. Yeah, and it's good old George Michael.

Berly

He was like, Hey, uh, before you go go, psh. Oh my god.

LA

Oh yeah, and so he pinked her all over the uh the school bus she was standing next to.

Berly

Pinked her right in the stink. She blew up. Uh I like his pink light though. Yeah, I do too. Like we haven't seen the angel palm in a while, but I liked the pink. Yeah, me too. On his palm that was different. Different, unique, like familiar, but fresh. Yeah. And George Michael was a cutie.

LA

He was cute. Uh so Cass and Dean show up at the high school. And Castile gets the word.

Berly

First of all, I like the sheriff character.

LA

Oh, yeah.

Berly

I did like him. It was a subtle role. It wasn't as much of a character as some other sheriffs that we had. It was a subtle role. But I liked a lot of the facial expressions that he chose to go with.

LA

Yeah. Like when her friends tell him Dean off.

Berly

That's totally where I was getting at. Whenever they go over. Well, first of all, the fact that they let, oh, let's let the gas and sip employee onto this active crime scene. Yeah, and some this random dude, too. Because they're with Dean. Yeah. Well, he had met Dean already. Oh, that's true. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So he already believes Dean is an agent. So he's just thinking Dean's off hours. But they didn't ask, like, who's your gas and sip friend? Maybe they just assumed it was a date or something. Who knows? But the fact that he let him on the crime scene. But good thing they did, because that's why Cass got a good look at everything. Yeah. But the friend when she was explaining she was kind of upset. Dean was like, kind of upset. She was like, yeah, like more upset than when she got a C and less upset than when her parents split up. So kind of upset, which was a perfect teenager. Oh yeah. Line. And that sheriff just made that face like first time interrogating kids. Like, what are you doing here? It was funny.

LA

It was. I liked it.

Berly

He's he's a hot old man. Yeah, he's he's a good looking guy. He was a good looking guy. Mm-hmm. I could have done I could have used some more sheriff.

LA

Well, Cass recognizes this pink business and says that. And he's he is very worried. Mm-hmm. He is bothered by this. And says it's the work of the Rit Rit Z N? Ret yeah, Rit a type of angel.

Berly

Yeah. And R-R-I-T-Z- Yeah, Rit Z N.

LA

Yeah. And they are the hands of mercy. They were like a healer type. Medic. Medic. Medic. And they like they they would painlessly smite ever anyone to save them from pain.

Berly

Yeah, like if an if they decided an angel, like you're too far gone, we're not gonna be able to heal these injuries, just missed for you. Pink mist, because why not?

LA

Yeah.

Berly

Or maybe angels, I bet you the angels weren't pink mist. Because they don't technically have organs and stuff.

LA

True.

Berly

And he thinks that this one They never explained where the pink came from, though. That's true. What's up with the pink? I don't know.

LA

I mean, I'm not complaining, but but this one, this particular one that's here is they think is likely confusing the nature of human emotions with insufferable pain. Because everybody that's been pinked were sad and upset. I think the sheriff sheriff called him sad sacks. Yeah. The saddest sacks in the in the town. If I were gonna make a list, yeah. So back at the bunker, Crowley agrees to do the translation, and they agree to let him make his call to Abaddon. And he wanted, or Sam was about to do it, give him his blood, but he didn't want it.

Berly

Yeah.

LA

He wanted Kevin.

Berly

He's like, I want variety, which I didn't think made sense at first. But then after what we saw, what he did with it, it was like, oh so it makes me wonder if he cared about talking to Abaddon at all, or if it was all a ploy to get their blood somehow.

LA

Yeah. Although I'm I'm sure he what he's curious what she's been up to. Well, true. But yeah, so he makes the call, gets put on hold. It was a strange call. He's get he gets cut off, then he gets put on hold, and Sam and Kevin are sitting there like, what's going on? But uh Abaddon eventually comes on, and she is taking over his contracts, killing people before their time, just cleaning up. And Crowley's telling her that you know your way's not gonna work. Yeah, there's a reason I've been doing this. My way's better. Your way, you're gonna burn, he tells her.

Berly

Chaos. He said you can't rule with chaos.

LA

Yeah. But she's she's convinced. She's not taking it.

Berly

She's having a good time. Her blowout looked fantastic. Yeah, she did look great. That lighting on her was cool too. Mm-hmm. That like dark mood lighting.

LA

Then we switch to we see that Dean is dropping cast off for his supposed date.

Berly

Yeah. But he has to get him ready first.

LA

Yeah, he tells him to take off that vest, unbutton a couple buttons on the shirt, uh, and then he sends him on his way. But as Dean's taking off, there's some truck that's backing into a parking spot spot right in front of Dean, and it's taking forever. And it was really weird because we were like, is that something? Or was that just weird?

Berly

I was like, that's way too old to be a product placement. Like, what is happening here? It was very awkward. But also, did Dean like he was like looking Cass up and down whenever he was getting them ready to go? And then he was like, Yeah, that's good. He loves them. He was making sure he looked right. Yeah. Making sure he looked nice. You did not like Cass cutting a flower from her own garden. Well, yeah.

LA

I'd be like, I'd probably be like, Did you cut my flowers?

Berly

I mean, luckily he never even gave it to her because it was awkward whenever he got in there.

LA

Oh, I was so sad. He had the rose behind him, and she's running around like, oh, thanks for doing this. It's so hard to find find a good guy. And it's very clear that she is leaving Cass at her house to babysit her daughter. Right.

Berly

And she said they were going to a bowling alley and she'll use any excuse to get dolled up. Okay, that's fine. But like, I hope you have socks in your purse. Yeah. Because you're just wearing heels and you're going to a bowling alley. Like, please tell me you have socks in your purse. Surely she does. I hope so.

LA

So yeah, poor, poor Cass is left with the baby who immediately starts crying.

Berly

Mama shorts off, she's just gonna go right to sleep. My chest better. No problem.

LA

She's crying. Cass picks her up, starts singing, and she settles down after a while. But then she starts up again.

Berly

As soon as he tried to put her back down. And I told you I was like, I remember that fun fact about the microphone vibrating because Castel's voice is so deep. So yeah, I bet you she was like soothed in like that would have felt good. Like those magic fingers beds. Just relaxing, you know? Yeah, yeah. That would have felt nice. I need a giant, like a 36-foot-tall giant with a deep voice like that to come carry me and carry me around so I can sleep. Okay, wow, okay. I gotta have a deep voice, though. Yeah. Sing me some George Michael. Well, there you go.

LA

Uh we get, or the sheriff calls Dean and tells Dean that they got the lab work back from the first victims who were a couple.

Berly

A married couple.

LA

And they the the pink stuff is only from her, not the husband. So the husband is still around. So he meet Dean goes to meet the sheriff. He's showing him some pictures of the couple, the victims. There it's a couple standing in front of the truck, and it's the truck that was backing up in front of Dean. I guess we're it's the same night, right?

Berly

Yep, all the same night. Yeah. Because he's like, oh fuck. Like he's there for Cass. Right. So he's which I thought he was there for the baby at first, but Oh, I did too. Yeah. Because she was so upset. She was so upset. She was crying. But then I realized, like, oh, he did get there like well before the baby started crying and all that other kind of stuff. Because he was backing it up on Dean.

LA

Back with Cass and the baby. He's getting real worried because she's warm. And he's calling and he's like, call me back, or I'm gonna take her to the hospital. He does, you know, he's worried. Once he decides, okay, we're going, we're gonna walk to the hospital. He opens the door and there's George Michael, who we learn is actually Ephraim. Ephraim?

Berly

Ephraim, yeah. And his vessel, the husband vessel, we found out from the sheriff, uh, was listening to Buddy Boyle's sermons. Oh, yeah. A whole whole lot. I was telling his wife, you need to open yourself up, let them in. Well, she did. I mean, something got in there. Yeah.

LA

But this was good. I really liked because so the confrontation with Castell and Ephraim, like he's kind of backing Cass up a little, but Cass slyly runs his hand along the thorns of the rose that he cut from her own front yard. And so he's subtly bleeding into his fist. And he backs up into the window, like the French door window. And he's trying to make the what is it? Sigil. The sigil. And I was like, oh yeah, he's gonna, it's gonna be good, but nope. It was a good plan. Yeah. It was a good plan. Ephraim caught caught on. And it almost looked like he was breaking his wrist.

Berly

I know he was folding it back really hard. Yeah, I was like, Misha Collins must have a really flexible wrist, or they must have been doing something interesting with the posing, because my wrist hasn't been that uh and I feel like I heard it crack.

LA

I thought I did too. Okay, so yeah, I was concerned about his little hand and wrist.

Berly

Yeah, he's a human now.

LA

Yeah, Ephraim, stop it.

Berly

And the baby is just crying. Oh still, she is very upset. Dean abruptly abruptly shows up. Like and Ephraim just like boom.

LA

Yeah, he's like just tosses him aside.

Berly

He comes right in the back. Okay.

LA

And you're gonna have to t you're gonna have to talk to this because I didn't see what actually happened, how he killed in that situation. I was looking at my notes, so you can explain that.

Berly

Oh, Ephraim, somebody had an angel blade. Dean, I think Dean came in with that. Oh, okay.

LA

Yeah, but then Dean got tossed. Tossed over over in the corner.

Berly

I mean, luckily Dean thought well enough ahead about because the butt Reverend Buddy Boyle. Reverend Billy Billy. I always want to say Billy, maybe Billy. Reverend Boyd Bell Boyle. Shit. He thought ahead, you know, he brought an Angel Blade. And after he got thrown up against that wall, I liked this. It was it was quick. But Ephraim had like Castell up against the crib and was just like I'm gonna take you. And Dean threw the Angel Blade across to Castell and he got it and took him out. Pinked himself. He pinked Ephraim. He did right back at him.

LA

So all is well. Baby's fine. Dean's fine. Cass is fine. Miss Nora shows up after her date to thank Castile and to tell him again how special he is.

Berly

And that her date sucked. Yeah. Yeah.

LA

Back at the bunker. I feel like we say that a lot. Back at the bunker.

Berly

But you love it. I know. Love that bunker.

LA

I don't want to be there. Uh so Crowley gets done with his call, bitching an abaddon. He tells they push over the stuff to him after his call. And he reveals uh pretty much that what it says is that the spell that caused the angels to fall is irreversible. Can't be undone. Y'all fucked. Yeah. So thanks for that phone call. Sounds like you guys are fucked. Uh so Sam is in the, I guess, the bathroom, and he's cleaning up the blood bowl for the call that he made. Crowley made. As one does. Yeah. Yeah. And he sort of casually looks over and sees something and rolls out the thing with all the syringes that they use to give Crowley the blood in the bowl. And he notices one's the one is missing still. So he runs down to the basement, I guess, where they have the dungeon. He's about to go in, but he sees Crowley with the syringe inserting it into his arm, and Sam kind of Like shooting up. Yeah. Sam like ducks back and just is hiding behind, but like watching him.

Berly

He like just decides to just like leave it. Yeah, yeah. He just he watches him, sees what's happening, and then is like, oh, nope. Not gonna touch that for for right now. We're gonna leave that be. We'll double back on that later. That's why he didn't want mine. He wanted to see what this other kind was gonna be like. Yeah. Crazy.

LA

And then Dean takes Cass back to his his gas station job home. And he tells Cass he he is doing a good job. And him and him and Sam will take care of the angels. You just keep living your life. Keep doing, keep doing you, Cass.

Berly

You're enjoying having just a plain human life. Like you deserve it.

LA

Yeah. And that's that. This one, this was written by Robert Barens and directed by Rob Sparra.

Berly

That seems like a new name. Hang on here. Rob Barons, I don't think, is new. That name seems familiar to me. Let's see here. Robert Barons. Oh no, this is his first one. Oh, okay. What else do I know him from? Because I've heard that name before. Oh, Doom Patrol, Kung Fu, Ringer. He does have quite a few episodes coming up. And then the director seems like a new name, too. One and done for Rob Sparrow.

LA

Wow, okay.

Berly

But this Barons fella is gonna be around more in our future.

LA

Okay.

Berly

Gore.

LA

Well, I mean, I liked the switch up of the pink.

Berly

The pink was interesting. Yeah. I don't know where the pink came from, but I liked it.

LA

Yeah.

Berly

It was cool.

LA

Like we said, it was it was a nice little switch up. Little switch. Yeah.

Berly

Not so gory, though, because it's it's like whenever super gory like movies are in black and white to like tone down the gore. It was kind of similar. Yeah. Had a similar effect. Like I wasn't as upset about a high school girl being exploded as I think I would have been had it been like bloody and chunky.

LA

True, yeah.

Berly

You know? This was just a mist. It's just a nice fine mist. Yeah. You know?

LA

No chunks.

Berly

No chunks. And his earring. Oh, yeah. This big old earring. That wasn't gore. I just liked that touch. That's what you adore about. It was totally unnecessary. There was no reason for it. And yet they zoomed in on it like twice. I'm just like, yeah, I liked it. Okay. I like our little George Michael angel here, murderer, serial killer guy. It was a little, it was a little fun. Yeah, not a lot of gore. Did you adore anything about this episode?

LA

Cass was pretty adorable.

Berly

It was cute. It was cute to see him being so proud of himself. Right.

LA

Yeah.

Berly

I enjoyed that. And then, like I said, I liked our little George Michael guy. Yeah. He wasn't in it as much as I would have liked. But yeah, I mean, just the way they were like, it's his first time here. He doesn't understand the difference between being sad and intolerable pain and him just coming, oh, you I got this. Don't you worry. Well, for today's lore, the writ zien are not real. Oh, okay. They don't exist. They're quite literally invented for this television show. Okay. And that's the lore. All right. I'm just kidding. But there is an Ephraim.

LA

Oh, I figured that.

Berly

However, before we answer who is Ephraim, we gotta go back. Talk about his daddy. Oh. Hmm. The father figure. I wish that I was feeling a little bit more on my toes. I feel like I really wanted to bring up a lot of George Michael references, but I was just struggling thinking of them over here. I think he did good. I think he did a good job. I liked my little wham one. It didn't make sense. It wasn't very funny, but I had to find a window to squeeze in wake me up before you go-go. Like I had to. Anyway, Ephraim's daddy was Joseph. Oh. Joseph was one of the 12 sons of Jacob, known as the Righteous One. And honestly, the title was earned. His father favored him. Special coat, technicolor dream coat, the whole thing. His brothers got so jealous. They literally sold him to traitors headed to Egypt. He got falsely accused of a crime by his boss's wife, thrown in prison, and yet he clawed his way up to become Pharaoh's second in command, ruler of all of Egypt. Wow, that's impressive. The jacket? I know. The rise from the depths of the prison. Oh, okay. Interpreted dreams, saved nations from famine, forgave his brothers who sold him. Wow. The man was built different. After all that, Pharaoh gave him a wife named Asenath, an Egyptian wand woman, woman, and daughter of a priest. And they had two sons. Joseph ruled Egypt for 80 years and died at 110 years old. What? Yeah. Generational wealth of a different kind.

LA

Yeah.

Berly

Right? So Ephraim is Joseph's second born. He was born in Egypt to an Egyptian mother. Half Hebrew, half Egyptian, royalty adjacent. His name is connected to the Hebrew root meaning to be fruitful. So Ephraim basically translates to I will be fruitful. First person. Future tense. Main character energy confirmed. Hold on to that because it's gonna matter later. All right. That's why I was doing the dramatic pauses and the sentences and everything. Got it. When grandpa Jacob is on his deathbed, he crosses his hands. So the power blessing right hand lands on Ephraim, the younger son, skipping over firstborn Manasseh. Am I saying that right? Manasseh. Manasseh. Manasseh. Manasseh? Manasseh. Joseph tried to like course correct, and Jacob basically said, no, no, no, I know what I'm doing. Rabbiniacal.

LA

Rabbinical.

Berly

Rabbinical sources say Ephraim was favored because he was modest and not selfish. Quiet confidence. Didn't even ask for it. The blessing found him. Jacob told him the heads of the tribes, the chiefs of the academies, and the best and most prominent of my children shall be called after your name. Ooh, okay. Ephraim's entire identity, biblical and supernatural, is built around healing, mercy, humility, and blessing others. His tribe's banner was black with a bullock on it. Hot topic. What's a bullock? She's an Oscar winner. Okay. Okay. Bullock refers primarily to a young castrated male bovine. Oh, okay. So a steer. Got it. They camped on the west side, and the angel assigned to the west was Raphael. Our favorite dramatic lightning-winged archangel or the healer. An angel literally posted up on their side of camp. Okay. No lore is complete without a cautionary tale, though. The tribe of Ephraim miscalculated the timing of the Israelites' deliverance from Egypt and left 30 years too early.

LA

That is quite a miscalculation.

Berly

I think so. They were met by Philistines, lost hundreds of thousands of men, and their bones were scattered on the roads. It was a whole thing. Silver lining, the slain Ephraimites were subsequently resuscitated by Ezekiel.

LA

That's nice.

Berly

Even in death, a comeback arc. Resurrection glow up. Eventually, the tribe got so powerful that its name became used figuratively for the entire northern kingdom of Israel. The whole northern half of a nation just took their name. That's not influence. That's dominance. And that's exactly what the supernatural writer gave us today. All of that healing instinct, selflessness, and mercy cranked up to a tragic, broken extreme.

LA

Alright.

Berly

He did seem disappointed in Castille, though. He did, yeah. Like, you're telling me that you're not in that much pain and that you want to live, but like, do you?

LA

You're kind of a disappointment.

Berly

I mean, he was a little judgy, this Ephraim. Yeah. It's good intentions, but still.

LA

Okay, a quote to close it out from um our poor teenage girl. And when she's on the phone crying to her friend, she said, Why couldn't he just dump me on Facebook like a normal person? Cheers. Cheers.
