In the early eighteenth century, an English criminal named Thomas Busby was executed for murder. According to local legend, before his death he placed a curse on the chair he had been sitting in — declaring that anyone who dared sit in it would suffer a terrible fate.

Over the centuries, the so-called Busby Stoop Chair became the centre of one of Britain’s most unsettling curses. Stories began to circulate of people who sat in the chair only to meet sudden and mysterious deaths soon after.

In this episode of The Eclectic, we explore the dark history of Thomas Busby, the crime that led to his execution, and the eerie legend surrounding the cursed chair that still hangs on a wall today to prevent anyone from sitting in it again.

Is it simply folklore, coincidence, and storytelling — or something far stranger?
