I know Tim, you've had"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":158.99,"endTime":161.42,"body":"debates with professors where"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":158.99,"endTime":161.42,"body":"they said all the founding"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":161.42,"endTime":163.94,"body":"fathers were racist, or all the"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":161.42,"endTime":163.94,"body":"founding fathers or whatever."},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":164.09,"endTime":166.4,"body":"And that tends to be the"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":164.09,"endTime":166.4,"body":"language so many people use"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":166.4,"endTime":168.89,"body":"today, and they paint with a"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":166.4,"endTime":168.89,"body":"very broad brush. And they don't"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":168.89,"endTime":170.6,"body":"even know who they're talking"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":168.89,"endTime":170.6,"body":"about when they do that."},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":171.14,"endTime":173.6,"body":"And dad, I mean, to"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":171.14,"endTime":173.6,"body":"jump in on that. I've"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":180.56,"endTime":182.03,"body":"never had one of these"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":180.56,"endTime":182.03,"body":"professors make one of these"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":182.03,"endTime":184.97,"body":"statements that then could give"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":182.03,"endTime":184.97,"body":"me clarity on who all of these"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":185.0,"endTime":187.4,"body":"individuals were their own"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":185.0,"endTime":187.4,"body":"slaves, or whatever the"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":187.4,"endTime":189.35,"body":"accusation, wherever the claim"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":187.4,"endTime":189.35,"body":"is, right? That none of the"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":189.35,"endTime":192.53,"body":"founding fathers were religious,"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":189.35,"endTime":192.53,"body":"that they all owned slaves. And"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":192.53,"endTime":195.68,"body":"I just asked a simple question,"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":192.53,"endTime":195.68,"body":"well which ones do you know that"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":195.68,"endTime":198.53,"body":"did own slaves? Or which ones do"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":195.68,"endTime":198.53,"body":"you know that weren't religious?"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":198.53,"endTime":201.53,"body":"Which ones do you know that were"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":198.53,"endTime":201.53,"body":"atheists, or agnostics, or"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":201.53,"endTime":206.24,"body":"Deist? And they begin giving"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":201.53,"endTime":206.24,"body":"answers. And you quickly realize"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":206.24,"endTime":209.72,"body":"the answers they are giving are"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":206.24,"endTime":209.72,"body":"factually incorrect, or they"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":209.72,"endTime":213.38,"body":"don't have answers at all. And"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":209.72,"endTime":213.38,"body":"so, so often, you see in an"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":213.38,"endTime":216.26,"body":"academic circle, they have just"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":213.38,"endTime":216.26,"body":"bought the academic narrative"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":216.26,"endTime":219.8,"body":"without having proof, without"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":216.26,"endTime":219.8,"body":"having evidence. And so often,"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":219.8,"endTime":222.32,"body":"the proof and the evidence goes"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":219.8,"endTime":222.32,"body":"against them, which I mean,"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":222.32,"endTime":224.42,"body":"Rick, as you pointed out, we'll"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":222.32,"endTime":224.42,"body":"have Mark David Hall on later."},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":224.51,"endTime":227.99,"body":"It's one of the things that I so"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":224.51,"endTime":227.99,"body":"appreciate about him. And what"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":227.99,"endTime":230.48,"body":"he has done with even some of"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":227.99,"endTime":230.48,"body":"his books, and some of the"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":230.48,"endTime":233.69,"body":"articles he's written, is he is"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":230.48,"endTime":233.69,"body":"an academic who is"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":233.72,"endTime":236.87,"body":"intellectually honest enough to"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":233.72,"endTime":236.87,"body":"say, well, let's go back and"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":236.87,"endTime":239.75,"body":"let's see who these individuals"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":236.87,"endTime":239.75,"body":"were. Let's, instead of making"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":239.75,"endTime":243.32,"body":"these generalizations, let's see"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":239.75,"endTime":243.32,"body":"what they believed. And he's"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":243.32,"endTime":245.84,"body":"very guarded. He's very careful"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":243.32,"endTime":245.84,"body":"on how he says it. He wants to"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":245.84,"endTime":248.66,"body":"make sure that, with his"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":245.84,"endTime":248.66,"body":"writing, he's always in an"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":248.66,"endTime":252.38,"body":"academically strong standing"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":248.66,"endTime":252.38,"body":"position, he can defend"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":252.38,"endTime":255.86,"body":"everything that he does. And so"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":252.38,"endTime":255.86,"body":"sometimes, he won't even go as"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":255.86,"endTime":260.63,"body":"far as we do in some of the"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":255.86,"endTime":260.63,"body":"positive accolades or in some of"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":260.63,"endTime":265.4,"body":"the Christian stances, because"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":260.63,"endTime":265.4,"body":"he wants to make sure that he is"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":265.4,"endTime":269.36,"body":"bulletproof from the academic"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":265.4,"endTime":269.36,"body":"attacks, of secular left now, we"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":269.36,"endTime":271.37,"body":"already know we're going to get"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":269.36,"endTime":271.37,"body":"the academic attack from secular"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":271.37,"endTime":274.61,"body":"left regardless because of the"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":271.37,"endTime":274.61,"body":"general positions we are taking"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":274.61,"endTime":278.03,"body":"and we feel very confident with"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":274.61,"endTime":278.03,"body":"the positions we take and what"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":278.03,"endTime":281.48,"body":"we are saying. But with that"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":278.03,"endTime":281.48,"body":"being said, it's something that"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":281.48,"endTime":286.94,"body":"in the academic field, the"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":281.48,"endTime":286.94,"body":"overall direction is so counter"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":286.94,"endTime":291.29,"body":"narrative to what is often"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":286.94,"endTime":291.29,"body":"historically accurate, that they"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":291.29,"endTime":294.98,"body":"make these broad generalized"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":291.29,"endTime":294.98,"body":"sweeping claims that not only"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":294.98,"endTime":297.65,"body":"are they not true, they don't"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":294.98,"endTime":297.65,"body":"get challenged and therefore"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":297.65,"endTime":301.31,"body":"never have to defend what is"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":297.65,"endTime":301.31,"body":"true. And so often they're"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":301.31,"endTime":304.79,"body":"misleading hundreds, if not"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":301.31,"endTime":304.79,"body":"thousands of students over the"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":304.79,"endTime":308.96,"body":"years in these classes, that"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":304.79,"endTime":308.96,"body":"I've even at times gotten emails"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":308.96,"endTime":312.8,"body":"or gotten texts or messages from"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":308.96,"endTime":312.8,"body":"students in classes with some of"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":312.8,"endTime":315.89,"body":"these crazy woke professors"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":312.8,"endTime":315.89,"body":"saying crazy woke things. And"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":316.04,"endTime":318.62,"body":"I've helped students navigate"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":316.04,"endTime":318.62,"body":"how to have a conversation, how"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":318.62,"endTime":321.56,"body":"to ask questions in class, with"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":318.62,"endTime":321.56,"body":"some of these crazy statements."},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":321.71,"endTime":326.12,"body":"But this is become a much more"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":321.71,"endTime":326.12,"body":"common position from what I've"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":326.12,"endTime":330.89,"body":"seen over the last decade or"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":326.12,"endTime":330.89,"body":"two, is that the crazy position"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":330.98,"endTime":333.35,"body":"some of these academics take"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":330.98,"endTime":333.35,"body":"when it comes to what is"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":333.35,"endTime":334.4,"body":"historically accurate."},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":335.12,"endTime":337.43,"body":"You know, one of"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":335.12,"endTime":337.43,"body":"the ironies I've seen along with"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":337.43,"endTime":341.87,"body":"this is a lot of times the"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":337.43,"endTime":341.87,"body":"really wild claims you get about"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":341.87,"endTime":344.24,"body":"the founding fathers,"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":341.87,"endTime":344.24,"body":"historically, come from"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":344.51,"endTime":348.35,"body":"academics who are not"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":344.51,"endTime":348.35,"body":"historians. We're"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1287.57,"endTime":1292.43,"body":"seeing a growing move of"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1287.57,"endTime":1292.43,"body":"individuals who are in pursuit"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1292.43,"endTime":1295.4,"body":"of truth, as well as we're"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1292.43,"endTime":1295.4,"body":"seeing a growth of people who"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1295.4,"endTime":1298.73,"body":"just want to have a narrative"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1295.4,"endTime":1298.73,"body":"fed to them. And so this is true"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1298.73,"endTime":1301.52,"body":"on both sides, but one of the"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1298.73,"endTime":1301.52,"body":"things he brought up in the"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1301.52,"endTime":1304.73,"body":"interview, I think, is a very"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1301.52,"endTime":1304.73,"body":"important thing for us to"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1304.73,"endTime":1308.06,"body":"understand. Part of the argument"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1304.73,"endTime":1308.06,"body":"and conversation, we've heard"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1308.06,"endTime":1311.06,"body":"this against Christianity for a"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1308.06,"endTime":1311.06,"body":"while, but now with the 1619"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1311.06,"endTime":1313.88,"body":"Project becoming so prominent"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1311.06,"endTime":1313.88,"body":"with the narrative being that"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1313.88,"endTime":1317.12,"body":"America is fundamentally evil"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1313.88,"endTime":1317.12,"body":"because of slavery. This is"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1317.12,"endTime":1320.12,"body":"something that we're now seeing"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1317.12,"endTime":1320.12,"body":"people are using the, kind of"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1320.12,"endTime":1321.74,"body":"the foundation of this"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1320.12,"endTime":1321.74,"body":"arguments, to even attack"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1321.74,"endTime":1324.32,"body":"Christianity. It's to say, well"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1321.74,"endTime":1324.32,"body":"look, you know, the people"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1324.32,"endTime":1329.09,"body":"advocating slavery, were using"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1324.32,"endTime":1329.09,"body":"the Bible to advocate slavery."},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1329.12,"endTime":1332.57,"body":"And while that is fundamentally"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1329.12,"endTime":1332.57,"body":"true, when you look in the"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1332.57,"endTime":1334.94,"body":"south, when you look, maybe,"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1332.57,"endTime":1334.94,"body":"even at some people in New York,"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1334.94,"endTime":1337.46,"body":"when you look at some of the pro"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1334.94,"endTime":1337.46,"body":"slavery advocates, there's no"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1337.46,"endTime":1341.81,"body":"doubt many of them were using"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1337.46,"endTime":1341.81,"body":"the Bible in arguing for"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1341.81,"endTime":1347.24,"body":"slavery. However, what is"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1341.81,"endTime":1347.24,"body":"probably even more important is"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1347.33,"endTime":1351.95,"body":"you cannot find an anti slavery"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1347.33,"endTime":1351.95,"body":"advocate in early America that"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1351.95,"endTime":1356.3,"body":"was making any moral claims"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1351.95,"endTime":1356.3,"body":"outside of the Bible, every"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1356.3,"endTime":1359.78,"body":"single anti slavery leader in"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1356.3,"endTime":1359.78,"body":"early America, where did they"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1359.78,"endTime":1364.73,"body":"get their ideas from? It was the"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1359.78,"endTime":1364.73,"body":"Bible. And so people are, at"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1364.73,"endTime":1367.61,"body":"times, on the left saying, well,"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1364.73,"endTime":1367.61,"body":"the Bible is bad because it it"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1367.61,"endTime":1370.79,"body":"was used to further slavery. But"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1367.61,"endTime":1370.79,"body":"we would then counter, well"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1370.82,"endTime":1373.76,"body":"right? But but the people who"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1370.82,"endTime":1373.76,"body":"actually fought and ended"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1373.76,"endTime":1376.82,"body":"slavery, where did their ideas"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":1373.76,"endTime":1376.82,"body":"come from? the Bible.
