And so there's all"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":116.21,"endTime":118.73,"body":"this insecurity about stuff that"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":116.21,"endTime":118.73,"body":"maybe we weren't as good at in"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":118.73,"endTime":122.24,"body":"school, or whatever it was. And"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":118.73,"endTime":122.24,"body":"I remember this even back, it's"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":122.24,"endTime":125.18,"body":"got to be 15 years ago or"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":122.24,"endTime":125.18,"body":"something when the California"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":125.18,"endTime":128.39,"body":"Supreme Court initially ruled"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":125.18,"endTime":128.39,"body":"against homeschooling and said,"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":128.39,"endTime":131.78,"body":"you can't have homeschooling,"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":128.39,"endTime":131.78,"body":"you have to be a certified"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":131.78,"endTime":134.09,"body":"teacher in the state of"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":131.78,"endTime":134.09,"body":"California to teach your kids"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":134.48,"endTime":138.74,"body":"and only about 6% of homeschool"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":134.48,"endTime":138.74,"body":"parents were certified teachers."},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":139.04,"endTime":143.45,"body":"But then it came out that you"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":139.04,"endTime":143.45,"body":"know, there's this 94% of the"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":143.54,"endTime":147.44,"body":"parents teaching their kids that"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":143.54,"endTime":147.44,"body":"aren't certified teachers, those"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":147.44,"endTime":149.69,"body":"kids are coming out two to four"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":147.44,"endTime":149.69,"body":"grade levels higher than"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":149.69,"endTime":152.6,"body":"everybody in the public schools"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":149.69,"endTime":152.6,"body":"is doing. And so non certified"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":152.6,"endTime":154.82,"body":"teachers actually getting better"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":152.6,"endTime":154.82,"body":"results than a certified"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":154.82,"endTime":157.49,"body":"teacher. And the Supreme Court"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":154.82,"endTime":157.49,"body":"went back and modified its"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":157.49,"endTime":159.62,"body":"decision and said no, no, it's"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":157.49,"endTime":159.62,"body":"okay for parents to be able to"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":159.62,"endTime":162.95,"body":"teach their kids. But there's"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":159.62,"endTime":162.95,"body":"just an insecurity that often"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":162.95,"endTime":165.92,"body":"goes with that. And then when"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":162.95,"endTime":165.92,"body":"COVID hit and three years ago,"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":165.92,"endTime":168.11,"body":"parents start seeing what was in"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":165.92,"endTime":168.11,"body":"the schools and said, This is"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":168.11,"endTime":171.5,"body":"not right. But I'm not sure I"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":168.11,"endTime":171.5,"body":"can homeschool my kids, I'm not"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":171.5,"endTime":173.78,"body":"sure I can do this, I'm not"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":171.5,"endTime":173.78,"body":"sure... I can't afford to send"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":173.78,"endTime":176.42,"body":"them to a Christian school. So"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":173.78,"endTime":176.42,"body":"I'm just kind of stuck with it."},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":176.54,"endTime":179.66,"body":"Well, there is a way now that"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":176.54,"endTime":179.66,"body":"from home, you can have your"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":179.66,"endTime":183.65,"body":"kids homeschooled in a Christian"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":179.66,"endTime":183.65,"body":"school with really good teachers"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":183.65,"endTime":186.95,"body":"and the insecurity, there's no"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":183.65,"endTime":186.95,"body":"longer reason for this, the cost"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":186.95,"endTime":188.96,"body":"prohibitions that used to be"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":186.95,"endTime":188.96,"body":"there with getting into private"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":188.96,"endTime":191.93,"body":"school, this has changed the"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":188.96,"endTime":191.93,"body":"whole landscape, this Covenant"},{"speaker":"David Barton","startTime":191.93,"endTime":193.13,"body":"Journey Experience"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":193.48,"endTime":195.43,"body":"Well Dad, as you"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":193.48,"endTime":195.43,"body":"mentioned, obviously, there's a"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":195.43,"endTime":197.44,"body":"lot of options out there. You mentioned"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":200.56,"endTime":203.41,"body":"that one of the barriers for a"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":200.56,"endTime":203.41,"body":"lot of parents has been a level"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":203.41,"endTime":205.78,"body":"of insecurity, right? And not to"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":203.41,"endTime":205.78,"body":"be critical of people, but"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":205.93,"endTime":209.08,"body":"there's often a fear of the"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":205.93,"endTime":209.08,"body":"unknown. And because parents"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":209.08,"endTime":211.48,"body":"want their kids to succeed, they"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":209.08,"endTime":211.48,"body":"want their kids to do so well,"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":211.63,"endTime":214.09,"body":"they do not... parents don't"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":211.63,"endTime":214.09,"body":"want to be the reason that their"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":214.09,"endTime":219.04,"body":"kids might not succeed. And so"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":214.09,"endTime":219.04,"body":"if there's a, right, some kind"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":219.04,"endTime":221.86,"body":"of perspective that I you know,"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":219.04,"endTime":221.86,"body":"because I'm not qualified, I"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":221.86,"endTime":224.26,"body":"could keep my kid from"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":221.86,"endTime":224.26,"body":"succeeding. Well, for people"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":224.26,"endTime":226.72,"body":"that are paying attention, if"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":224.26,"endTime":226.72,"body":"you look at the teachers that"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":226.75,"endTime":229.9,"body":"are, quote, unquote, qualified,"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":226.75,"endTime":229.9,"body":"some of those teachers that are"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":229.9,"endTime":233.68,"body":"qualified, what they are"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":229.9,"endTime":233.68,"body":"qualified in teaching is nothing"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":233.68,"endTime":237.07,"body":"you want your kids to know. And that's something"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":250.87,"endTime":253.48,"body":"that parents could actually have"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":250.87,"endTime":253.48,"body":"a level of competence saying,"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":253.48,"endTime":256.6,"body":"hey, let's read this together."},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":253.48,"endTime":256.6,"body":"Let's talk about it. And a lot"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":272.65,"endTime":276.34,"body":"of it again, happened through a"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":272.65,"endTime":276.34,"body":"conversation, through an"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":276.34,"endTime":280.09,"body":"oratorical exercise through"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":276.34,"endTime":280.09,"body":"essays etc. And it's something"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":280.09,"endTime":282.43,"body":"that parents can absolutely a"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":280.09,"endTime":282.43,"body":"part of, and I'm saying this,"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":282.73,"endTime":285.31,"body":"because I don't want parents"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":282.73,"endTime":285.31,"body":"listening to think that we would"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":285.31,"endTime":288.16,"body":"even be supporting or buying"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":285.31,"endTime":288.16,"body":"into the notion that you have to"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":288.16,"endTime":292.24,"body":"have outside help to be able to"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":288.16,"endTime":292.24,"body":"educate your children. You don't"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":292.24,"endTime":295.81,"body":"have to have outside help, but"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":292.24,"endTime":295.81,"body":"also there are some parents who"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":295.81,"endTime":298.42,"body":"maybe you would like a break in"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":295.81,"endTime":298.42,"body":"the day. I've got a two and a"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":298.42,"endTime":300.4,"body":"four year old and there are"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":298.42,"endTime":300.4,"body":"times that I'm at home with"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":300.4,"endTime":302.8,"body":"them, and I'm like, man, it"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":300.4,"endTime":302.8,"body":"would be so great right now, if"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":302.92,"endTime":305.14,"body":"you know, somebody could watch"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":302.92,"endTime":305.14,"body":"him for just a few minutes, so I"},{"speaker":"Tim Barton","startTime":305.14,"endTime":308.08,"body":"can do something else.
