7 Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; 8 for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

Good morning, First Baptist Wimberly. This is Mike Gibbons. Welcome to Friday. I hope you are looking forward to worshiping together this Sunday. We will have a guest preacher, Matt Bowles. And he's going to be looking at 1 Timothy 4, verses 7 through 8, and talking about training for godliness. I do hope you'll take some time this weekend to read through that text and prepare your heart for what the Lord has for us on Sunday. I do want to pray over you today using a short prayer from William Jay. Jay was a popular and very influential preacher in the mid-1800s. He was best known, honestly, for his preaching ability and his focus on fathers as the primary spiritual leaders in their homes. I found a prayer from him that I really needed this week. It's called a prayer for right perspective. I hope this blesses you as much as it did me. O Lord, help us remember that gratitude is more fitting to us than complaint. Our afflictions indeed have been light compared to our guilt. They have been few compared to the sufferings of others. They have all been attended with innumerable alleviations. They have all been necessary, all given to us with a regard for our welfare, all designed to work together for our good. We bless you for what is past, and we trust you for what is to come. Indeed, we cast all our cares upon you, knowing that you care for us. This is Mike Gibbons, and I love being your pastor.
