12 So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.
Good morning, First Baptist Wimberly. This is Mike Gibbons. Welcome to Friday. Hey, summer before last, we spent some time in the Psalms. And this Sunday we are returning to one Psalm before Pastor Aaron continues in Nehemiah. We're going to look at Psalm 90. Now, in that Psalm, verse 12 is the hinge, as we will see on Sunday. But let me read verse 12. So, teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Let's focus on that one phrase. Get a heart of wisdom. As disciples of Christ, isn't that our desire? For me, as I grow older, that is especially the case. I want to go grow wiser. I certainly don't want to grow more like the fool that Proverbs speaks of. I want to walk the last leg of this journey in a manner worthy of the Lord. And that only comes through wisdom. And to do this, we must come to terms, as the verse says, with the brevity of life. Teach us to number our days. Our perspective needs to be shaped by God's perspective. God is from everlasting to everlasting. Our life is like grass that fades and withers, as Psalm 90 says earlier. Our perspective needs to be one like God's eternal. It also requires us to never forget the power of this everlasting God. In considering this, we live in appropriate fear of Him, which is the beginning of wisdom. The fear of the Lord should lead us to take refuge in the deliverance that Jesus has bought us through his perfect life, death, and resurrection. This is the heart of wisdom that leads to a life of wisdom. Now no one ever arrives at a point where they possess a heart and mind full of this wisdom. But we press on to make it our own because Christ Jesus has made us his own. As you prepare for Sunday, would you read through Psalm 90? May we all get a heart of wisdom during our brief time in this temporary home called Earth. This is Mike Gibbons, and I love being your pastor.
