Delight Yourself in the Lord
Delight
“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.”
PSALM 1:2
WOW! This is amazing! We are literally four weeks into this chal- lenge. You are doing an absolutely amazing job! I am so proud of you! Some of the stories that you all have been sharing have been so awe- some to read! You are looking at each day as an opportunity to Dwell in Possibility! And God is WORKING!
Today, we are focusing on the word “Delight”. What does that mean? Delight means to “please (someone) greatly”.
The word is used 110 times in scripture, with most of those occurring in the Old Testament. A very similar word, “Please”, occurs 350 times in scripture, with nearly 75% of those occurring in the New Testament. There is a deep connection with delighting in God and being pleasing to Him.
When we think of the word delight—this passage always tends to pop up at the top of the list—
Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires
of your heart.
PSALM 37:4
There are those who might use this verse as a way to claim the promise that if God is our focus, then we can get whatever material object that we want, but that isn’t the biblical reality being shared in that passage at all.

So, what does it mean when David says that we are to delight in the Lord? This Psalm is written as a reminder to trust in all circumstances. David wants anyone who reads those words or sings those lyrics to rest in the reality that God will provide for every single need that they have. As we remember those truths, we bring glory to His name and are pleasing in His sight.
If we are seeking Him out, we will experience delight in Him, and will also be a delight to Him.
As we draw closer to Him, or as we focus on Him, He becomes all that we want. He becomes our desire. He becomes our purpose, and we want more of the intimacy of experiencing Him. There is a shift of focus from ourselves, to Him.
