DAY 232 — COME TO THE WATERS 💧
Isaiah 55 | The Story of Scripture with Pastor John
Why are we exhausting ourselves trying to purchase what can never satisfy us?
Isaiah 55 begins with an astonishing invitation:
“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters.”
The Hebrew text reveals something deeper than a simple invitation to “feel fulfilled.” Isaiah is announcing that the King has opened His covenant blessings to people who cannot afford them.
Isaiah 53 tells us the Servant pays the price.
Isaiah 54 promises restoration.
Isaiah 55 says, “Come.”
That’s why salvation can be offered “without money and without price.” Grace is free to us because Someone else paid for it.
And when God says, “My thoughts are not your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8), the context is especially powerful. God has just promised to “abundantly pardon” the repentant sinner. We ration forgiveness. God multiplies mercy.
Then Isaiah ends with creation rejoicing and the thorn being replaced. Genesis gave us thorns because of the curse. Isaiah promises their reversal. And centuries later, Jesus would wear the thorns Himself.
From Genesis to Isaiah to the cross to Revelation, it is one incredible story of redemption.
So here’s today’s question:
What are you exhausting yourself trying to obtain that only God can give?
Stop spending your life on bread that cannot satisfy.
The Servant has paid the price. The invitation is still open. Come to the waters.
