📖 Ezra 1
In 586 BC, Jerusalem was destroyed and the temple was burned. In 539 BC, Babylon fell to Cyrus of Persia. Then around 538 BC, something remarkable happened: Cyrus issued a decree allowing God’s people to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple.
Ezra tells us exactly what was happening behind the scenes:
“The LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia…” — Ezra 1:1
Cyrus may have worn the crown, but God ruled the king.
That truth still matters today. Presidents change. Governments change. Leaders rise and fall. People may seem to hold tremendous power over our circumstances—but no earthly authority operates outside the sovereign rule of God.
And Ezra 1 shows us something else: God not only stirred Cyrus’s heart to open the door, He also stirred the hearts of His people to walk through it.
So when you’re facing a situation you cannot control, remember:
God has access to rooms you cannot enter.
God can open doors you cannot open.
God can move hearts you cannot move.
You don’t have to fear the person holding earthly power when you know the God who holds that person’s heart.
