Matthew 1:18–25
Matthew 1 reminds us that Christmas is not mainly the story of a baby being born.
It is the story of God coming near.
Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born in fulfillment of prophecy, and given a name that revealed His mission:
“You shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
That is why He came.
Not merely to inspire us.
Not merely to teach us.
Not merely to make life easier.
He came to save.
And Matthew gives us another name:
Immanuel — God with us.
The Creator stepped into creation.
The eternal Son entered time.
The holy God came near to sinful people.
The gospel is not the story of humanity finally finding its way to God.
It is the story of God coming all the way down to us.
And Joseph’s response teaches us something too: when God’s plan disrupted his own, he obeyed.
Faith does not always mean understanding everything.
Sometimes faith simply means trusting God enough to obey what He has made clear.
Remember this today:
Jesus did not come merely to be admired. He came to save.
And He did not merely come from God. He is God with us.
