ADVENT DAY 9: The Moravian Love Feast
In today’s Church Potluck Advent Calendar episode, we explore a beautiful and often-overlooked Christmas Eve tradition: the Moravian Love Feast. Rev. Chris Barbieri joins us to share both the history and the heart behind this centuries-old practice—part hymn-filled worship service, part shared meal, and wholly focused on community. Chris walks us through the Moravian story, from their roots in the Reformation to their unlikely refuge under Count Zinzendorf, and explains how this simple act of sharing sweet buns and coffee became a powerful symbol of unity that still draws packed churches every Christmas Eve. Along the way, we connect the Love Feast to the early church, to Wesleyan history, and to the everyday ways we can practice radical hospitality—especially toward those who might otherwise spend the holidays alone.
