Conquering Fear: Turning What-ifs into Victories and Growth [391]

How many of us let fear control and paralyze us, stopping us dead in our tracks, even before we've taken that first step? I'm Crissy Conner, and I'm not afraid to admit that I've been there, too. In a candid revelation, I share my personal experience about an irrational fear. This fear-induced procrastination led to a self-constructed mountain of 'what ifs' and 'worsts-case scenarios', a phenomenon I've found to be common amongst us when facing daunting tasks.

How many times are you afraid to do something and you literally put it off? How many times do we make these big, huge, monstrous stories in our head that all these things are going to happen if we don't do the thing? Hi, i'm Chrissy Connor and I am guilty of these things. I do normally move so fast that I don't need to worry about the fear. However, there's a thing I've been struggling with. I'm just going to lay it all out there.
Speaker 1I decided I wanted to move my website to my funnel system. It's been on WordPress for years and I was like this is just ridiculous. I want all these changes, i just need to move it. I canceled with the host and everything that I was paying for my website and I was like, okay, i'm going to do it. I'm going to move it over Every time I have sat down to mess with the back end. First of all, let me just be clear. I have used to design WordPress sites. I know my way around. Technology. Technology normally does not scare me. It's not the least thing that I'm worried about.
Speaker 1However, i created this story in my head that, first of all, that domain is connected to my email and I thought, oh my gosh, if my email goes down, what am I going to do? I'm not going to be able to see payment notifications. If I needed to get into my PayPal account, all these things, i couldn't get into anything. I started to create these monstrous stories. I love that. If you've ever listened to Rob Dile, he calls them scaries. I created this big, monstrous mountain of craziness that was going to happen if I messed up. Therefore, it just started. It was like I put it off, i put it off, i put it off, i put it off. I put it off because I was scared of messing up something. Okay, first of all, you can always redo something, especially if you like video what you do so you can see what you messed up. But anyhow, this is the story I tell myself. Normally, things like this that we're afraid of aren't really rational Once we look back on them. However, at the time, it was really scary.
Speaker 1I was in the FG Funnels, which is the platform that I use, and I was in the Facebook group and I saw this lady commenting on somebody to help them. I messaged her and I was like hey, do you work on the back-end domains? She was like yeah, what do you need? I said this is what I need. She goes okay. Do you want to hop on a Zoom? I was like, sure, win, she goes. Well, we can schedule, or I can do it in 10 minutes. Here's another thing that we do we delay. It's a Saturday and I'm thinking I don't want to work on a Saturday. I don't want to do this on a Saturday. I don't want to take somebody else's time on a Saturday. Who's offering, by the way? I said let's do it in 10 minutes, because if I don't do it in 10 minutes, i'm going to find a reason to chicken out and not do this. If you're open to doing it in 10 minutes, i'm open to doing it in 10 minutes. She was like, okay, we get on this Zoom and she looks at all my stuff and she goes delete, delete, delete, delete, delete. Add this, boom, you're good. I'm just like why? Why did I allow this to stall me? to prevent me from moving?
Speaker 1It was a silly website, but our minds, they take control of any little fear that we have and make it. I think my dad used to say make a mountain out of a molehill or something like that. But it makes it so much bigger and it doesn't need to be that big. We just compound and keep making it worse and worse and worse and worse and worse when it doesn't need to be. It doesn't need to be.
Speaker 1How many times have you put off something and, in reality, when it was time to finally do it or you finally did it hopefully you have done this at least once. Right, you finally did something like that was not as bad as I thought it was. That was nowhere near as bad as I thought it was. The only thing that I've been afraid to do that I can tell you that I think was as bad as I thought it was was getting a tattoo. That was hard and painful. I don't like pain, it just wasn't my cup of tea. But, like most things are not that bad. You know launching. You know just like I let launching like crush me and getting on video like stop me and so many things. And why are we doing this when it's not that bad? So my question is what have you been afraid of Right now in your mind? something in the back of your mind, maybe even subconsciously? there is something you have been putting off due to fear.
Speaker 1I want you to allow me, because this is a month of challenges. I want you to allow me to challenge you And I would love for you to say out loud right now, as you're listening to this episode Chrissy, i accept your challenge, i am going to go get this done And then I would love to hear from you and how bad it really wasn't and how crazy. We make up these stories in our head and, like Rob, i'll cause it. It was a. We made it a big, scary right, which makes it sound so childlike and like the monster under the bed kind of thing. Do you accept my challenge? I cannot wait to hear from you, because I know that it's not going to be as bad as you thought it was, just like none of mine are as bad as I think they are going to be. Are you ready for this? Because I am ready for you to accept this challenge and for you to see that you can do hard things, my friend, no matter how scary they seem to be.
