Have you ever set yourself an ambitious target only to find yourself straining under the weight of your self-imposed rules? As an entrepreneur chasing audacious goals, I've been there too. In 2020, my target was 100 live videos in 31 days and in 2021, I cranked it up to 200 live videos. The journey was fraught with exhaustion and relentless pressure, yet I refused to grant myself grace. However, in the midst of my ongoing goal of 100 videos for this October, I'm learning to bend my rules and grant myself the kindness I often overlook.

Reminder to give yourself grace!

I think sometimes we forget that we make the rules, that we, especially as a business owner. We may not make the rules in all of our life, but as a business owner, we make the rules. Right, the rules are whatever we say they are, or maybe we have no rules, whatever that looks like to you, and I'll never forget. Back in 2020, when I did 100 live videos and I gave myself all these rules and I said I can't repurpose, I can't go live multiple times, I can't do this, I can't do that. It was a lot, but it's actually pretty easy. 100 live videos in 31 days Piece of cake. And then there was 2021, I did 200 live videos in 31 days, with all the rules again, not a piece of cake, not easy, hard, exhausting. I made it through and I went over 200, which is always my goal exceed what you set yourself. But it was hard. It was hard and I refused to give myself grace and I refused. I mean, there were some days I gave myself grace, but I didn't give myself grace over the 31 days. Right, this was my goal, this is what I was doing, I wasn't changing the rules. And so I'm currently in 100 videos for the month of October and I think I'm at 32 videos. Now I am counting repurpose, but that is not the repurpose in that count. I am counting the 100 has to be brand new videos, so, and it doesn't have to be live, it can be a short form video, it can be whatever, but it has to be fresh, new content. So I'm at 32, and we're on what is today. If you're watching this live, it's is today, the 12th. I think it's the 12th. It is the 12th. Okay, so if I can't repurpose, we're like close to 70, but I'm not counting that because that's not counted in my 100.

But anyhow, yesterday was exhausting. Yesterday I had a Black Friday Accelerator coaching session. I had the Visible Inner Circle office hours. I did a raving fans training. I was like on video training or teaching, or coaching, mentoring for three hours. I was exhausted and smart Me would have done the videos first, like the content, but I was tired and I didn't want to do any videos and I was like I can make it up tomorrow, I can make it up all through the rest of the month. I'm going to get to 100. It's not going to be a big deal, it'll be easy. And so why are you stressing out, like, also, I don't get to count those for three videos by the way, it has to be public videos. But I said, okay, I'm not doing it. And so I'm in a thread with my inner circle who want to do this too. Then I'm like, listen, I'm at the same as yesterday because I'm giving myself grace. I've been on video a lot today. I don't want to be on video anymore, so I'm just not going to do it. And sometimes that is the most uncomfortable thing to do is not do the thing you said you were going to do. Right, and I will get to 100 videos. I'm not at all concerned about that. But yesterday, to stay on track, I need to be at three a day. So I'm three behind. It's fine, I'll do more today. Maybe I'll make them up today. It just depends on how the rest of my day goes. It's pretty full, but we'll see.

Speaker 1

But I think it's crazy that we forget that we get to make the rules right. We forget that we get to make the rules Now. I don't mean sell something one way and then, oh, I'm changing it all up after you've already paid for it. I'm not really saying like that, but I'm saying in your business and your rules. If you set a challenge for yourself, if you want to plan out your day right, and in the middle of the day you decide oh, I don't have any commitments, so I'm going to take the rest of the day off, or I'm going to go do something else, or I'm going to go take a walk. You're allowed to do that. You get to do that, right. And sometimes, even if you do have commitments, maybe you shift them.

Speaker 1

How many people are never upset when somebody cancels a call? Like, if you cancel a call, it's not a big deal because I'm going to find something to fill that time with. It's fine, it's fine, I will do something that was on my to-do list, right. And so I think, just looking at things and obviously being your word and doing the things that you obviously I don't want to even say should be doing, but doing the things that you are aligned with doing that you have committed to doing. But also, I committed to 100 videos in the month of October. I didn't commit to 100 videos in one day, right. Or I didn't commit to, yes, to get to there to 100, to make it easier. Three videos a day, making my life a lot easier. But one day missing three videos is not the end of the world, because there are some days that I'm going to do five videos and there are some days I'm going to do two videos and there are some days I might do 10 videos, especially if I get on a TikTok role, right.

Speaker 1

And so I think we get to give ourselves grace number one and remind ourselves of that, because if a friend came to us and was saying x, y, z, I'm struggling, you would say take a break. It would never think twice about being hard on them. So why are we so hard on ourselves? Why can't we extend ourselves the same exact grace that we would extend someone else, our clients, right? We get to remember that we are running the ship, but also we get to give ourselves grace. We get to take time off, we get to shift things, renegotiate things. It's all part of being a business owner, and the reason we don't work nine to five or want to be in a nine to five is because it's rigid. There are rules, you have to sit at this desk for this amount of time and we wanted to create something different. So remember, that's why you created this, so you make the rules. So when you make the rules, you can also shift the rules.
