Gifts of Courage, Consistency, and Belief
Speaker 1And we enjoy me in today's episode and let's talk about the things that we have gifted ourselves as CEOs, as business owners, as entrepreneurs, whatever you want to call yourself the gifts that you have given yourself, and some of them you have to consistently, constantly give yourself. So the first thing that I'm going to say is courage, and because I would not be where I am in this moment without courage. You know, I think there's this thing like oh, be fearless, do all these things. No, it's hard to get rid of the fear, right, but I can push through the fear and do it anyhow. I can believe in myself and I can honestly just know that I've never, that I know I can bet on myself. Maybe that's a better way to say it Knowing that I can bet on myself. And courage is huge, because to start a business takes a lot of courage. For some people to quit their nine to five takes a lot of courage. For some people to invest money takes a lot of courage. There's a lot of different scenarios that happen when it comes into being courage, but I think being courageous is one of the most important things that I have done, because without that courage, I don't know if I'd be where I am today, and so that gift that I've given myself and I continuously give myself has been huge and been so helpful and so supportive in everything that I've done. The next thing that I would say that I have gifted myself and this is going to be a two-part the first thing I'm going to say is consistent actions, because it is hard to be consistent without instant gratification. It is also courageous to be consistent without instant gratification when you literally don't know something's working or not, like I'm going to keep doing this. But what if right? And so the what ifs are. The what ifs can be negative, right, like I fail or I fall on my face, or it never works, or what if it just takes a little longer than I thought? What if the right person is watching me? What if right? And so we get to decide. What does that look like?
Speaker 1The second part of consistent actions that I'm gonna throw in there is uncomfortable actions, because I think uncomfortable actions can also be consistent actions, because some people struggle with being consistent because of not having that instant gratification, and a lot of times what happens is we see that well, if I miss a day, it's not a big deal, if I miss two days. It's not a big deal and before we know it, we've missed a lot, right? Because if one day doing it, doesn't matter what is missing one day. And so we rationalize with ourselves, and so it's easy to quit those consistent things that we're doing. The uncomfortable actions, however, have come after the consistent actions. So you're consistent with something.
Speaker 1Maybe it's almost like I don't know, let's say it's subconscious, because you're so consistent, and this is how I've been with visibility, and so I will get very, very visible and it just becomes, I don't wanna say like Groundhog Day, but it does become very redundant, right, it becomes very easy, second nature. It's like brushing my teeth, it's not hard. So it's like how can I up level this? Okay, the first thing always for me, it's time to up level my content strategy. It's time to get more vulnerable. It's time to review what I've been doing and see where I can improve. It's time to be a little tougher on myself. It's time to critique the content I've been putting out, like it's really time to audit myself, right? And so we're going to put a little pressure on myself and it's gonna get a little uncomfortable and know that I want to show up in a different way and still sing true to myself, but also pushing those edges as much as possible. So I also I believe that they go hand in hand. I believe you start with consistent actions and I believe once you get consistent, it's time to turn them into uncomfortable actions, because you're so used to doing them. It's time to turn it up a notch. The next thing that I've gifted myself is belief and confidence, and I will say this I do believe you build a lot of belief and confidence from doing uncomfortable things and from being consistent and from being your word to yourself, and also from doing scary and comfortable things multiple times, and so I believe that you can absolutely just be confident and you can absolutely have this belief, but I also believe you can really build it and I believe you can really prove it to yourself that I can do this. I can do hard things. I sometimes think back why did I do 100 live videos and month? Why did I okay, that made sense, more sense than the 200 live videos. But I'm like why did I do this to myself? And so it's really even this certification like why did I do this to myself?
Speaker 1I was sent my inner circle a message yesterday and I told them I said, besides Saturdays because I didn't do any calls on Saturdays but besides Saturdays, like yesterday was the first day that I have had on my calendar with no call scheduled the entire day. Now I had plenty of stuff to do, I had plenty of stuff to fill in that gap and fill in that time. And then my daughter, like, found stuff for me to do, but it was like the first time and it was beautiful. It was beautiful, it felt so good. Right, like normally I don't do calls on my CEO days, but in order to finish the certification, I knew I had to make some sacrifices, right, if I wanted to finish in the time I wanted to finish. So I had a call scheduled on both CEO days, on Mondays and Fridays. I had call scheduled on Tuesday. I had call scheduled on Sundays, so Saturday was the only day because I have inner circle days, I have a podcasting, calls and other things and trainings on Thursdays. So it was like every day had something except Saturday. And so some Saturdays I literally just vaged on my couch because I just I needed the break, right, but again I pushed myself. I know I can do it If I need to do something to get to the finish line. I know it's gonna happen and I believe that builds belief and confidence.
Speaker 1The next thing that I've gifted myself is the gift of investments, and I look at this as two ways. First of all, I believe in the investment of money, meaning that I know I am not a risk, I know I'm not a gamble, I know I'm an investment, and so I invest in myself, and this is a two-parter. Again, this is also a two-parter. So investing in myself with money is great, right. And I've invested five figures in myself and I've invested one figure like a $7 product, right. And here's something that I actually also taught myself that I do believe the amount of the investment is important.
Speaker 1The first time I joined a $1,000 mastermind is $1,000 a month and I was like, oh my God, this is like two car payments. I don't know if it'll be two car payments today, but back then it felt like two car payments. But anyhow, I was like this is insane, like. And I literally just got like this try to think of the feeling, this nervous, anxious feeling, every time the payment came out. Money was there, there was a lot of money and a lot of guilt I had to work through investing that money and I had to make a year commitment in a time that I didn't know what my business is gonna look like in a year. How my sister's committed to this for a year this is crazy. It was the best thing I could ever done Like. The commitment was almost even better for me than the money. But the commitment was huge because it is again courage, belief, confidence, all of those things. The year is not that long. That's what helped me see. But also I could leave after a year and the year came up and I stayed for four years total. I didn't leave. I paid $1,000 a month for four years. Do the math. That's not a light investment. That's not something you believe in.
Speaker 1And that mastermind brought me some of my favorite people in the world, some of my best friends, or some people that I admire like more than I can even describe. And it was not easy to say yes. For six months I freaked out. They're not the application. I was scared, petrified. I had my best month ever. Finally did it. My first whole month in there was really good. Second month, I had my worst month in a really long time. The easy thing would have been to bow out. The easy thing would have been to say say yeah, but that was also a gift I gave myself and I pushed through tenacity.
Speaker 1And so there is this investment part right of the money. There is the money and I gift those investments to myself. However, the second part of that investment is the time I can pay all the money in the world and I can be in close proximity with anybody I want. But if I'm not willing to do the work on myself, on my business, on whatever it is that I want to be better at, it doesn't matter. No, it doesn't matter. I can listen to all the trainings in the world. It might motivate me, but until I'm willing to do it, I'm not gonna see the changes that I desire. So investments is huge.
Speaker 1Again, it's kind of like those consistent actions. It's a two-part. It's like paying the money and doing the work and understanding that there is this threshold, that if you do not pay over this amount, you may not see the value of the investment. Meaning, if I have all a seven dollar offer right now from someone, I'm probably never gonna do it Because my threshold right, my minimum is much higher than that. I was part of a mastermind for four years $1,000 a month. I was a part of another mastermind for three months, paying $3,333 a month. I was part of an eight week mastermind. That was seven grand a month, again, like my threshold is just different, right? And so in order for me to value it enough to do it, I gotta make sure it's right for me, it's pushing me, it's stretching me, in order for me to say yes to something, or that I value that mentor so much that I know everything she puts out is gold, even if it's $7, which I've also done. So I think it is very, very beautiful to be able to understand that about yourself and know that about yourself.
Speaker 1And the last thing I've gifted myself a lot of things. This is what I think of right now when I'm recording this podcast episode. There might be a part two, but maybe that'll be Mondays, but the last thing that I'm gonna say on this episode is the gift that I've given myself is to not quit, to keep going. There's a video circulating out around there about the day I almost killed my business, and it was talking about September 2020, three years ago and I almost walked away because I didn't see that there was anything possible. And when I did the day I killed my business. I don't know when I recorded that video, it was at least a year. It might have been two years afterwards, but anyhow, I did all the math a year from that day. Right, if I would quit that day, I would have walked away from I think it was about $250,000 to $270,000 in revenue. I would have said, see ya, if I would not have pushed through we hear so many stories about she was just there or they were just reaching the gold. He sold it and he was like, so millimeters from the gold. Right Of people giving up all the time you never know how close you are.
Speaker 1I surely didn't think I was that close, never in a million years. But when you have the choice to give up and you have the choice to keep going, you decide to go all in because you have nothing to lose. At that point the game changes. And so I have played this game with myself and every time I decide I am going to quit or give up, it happens a lot. If you are a CEO, entrepreneur, you fill me. There is a lot of days we want to quit. It would be easier to quit, don't get me wrong. Sometimes this would be way easier. But whenever I play this game with myself, but whenever I do feel like I am going to quit Okay, quit or go all in your choice what are you doing? You don't straddle the line. You don't have one foot on one boat and one on the other you do the decision either quit or go all it. What are you choosing? It's never served me wrong.
Speaker 1So what gifts are you continuously giving yourself? What gifts are you never going to stop? It's a beautiful thing to know you can gift yourself. Most of them are free, almost. I think one thing was investments and talking about money, but everything else was free. It's all me. It's the work we do on ourselves. It's the decisions and the choices we decide to make. I'm wearing that in my business at the end of 2023 because of the daily choices I've made every single day since 2016.
Speaker 1I could also be further ahead and because some of those choices were probably not the right choices, I could have gotten on video sooner. I could have got more consistent sooner. I could have created an inner circle sooner. There's so many things Could have will to shut it right, but the point is I'm where I'm at because of the choices and the decisions I've made. You are where you're at because of the choices and decisions you're made. I am where I'm at because of the gifts I continuously give myself. You are where you're at because the gifts you continuously give yourself. But what can you add to that? Maybe that's Monday's episode the gifts I'm going to give myself in 2024. Stay tuned. If you enjoyed this episode, make sure you share it and reach out to me and let me know your favorite part, and I would love to hear your takeaways.
