Stress Relief Moment: 4-7-8 Breathing Exercise
Join Dr. Lisa Yeung, family physician turned integrative coach, as she walks through a simple yet effective breathing technique that is easy enough to do right at your desk during your workday to relieve stress, calm your mind, and relax the nervous system, yet powerful enough to alleviate insomnia and help prevent panic attacks.
In a stressed state our brain is hijacked by the amygdala (the fear center of our brains), which literally renders us unable to access our executive functioning and rational thinking. This 4-7-8 breathing exercise is a quick and easy stress relief tool that helps alleviate and reverse the fight or flight response by triggering your parasympathetic nervous system, tricking your brain into a more relaxed state.
