Hello and welcome. Sports Bros, episode 36. We are back after a hiatus. We are back. Copa America we're right in the thick of it. Euros Stan Coase is a Nashville Predator, ncaa 25 on the horizon, a lot of stuff going on, even Wimbledon, wimbledon, wimbledon, wimbledon, wimbledon, wimbledon. Our Wimbledon expert Harry, is with us and we're back to talk soccer football, whatever you want to call it. How are you guys feeling about the Euros? Copa America who's going to win it? Colombia looks pretty good. What do we think can lead it up into Sunday?
Speaker 2:Harry, anything to say about the Euros?
Speaker 3:Yeah, absolutely, my heart is with England. Love England, love their country, love their people, love their football. What?
Speaker 2:about their breakfast.
Speaker 3:Got to bet with your head. I'm going to take Spain to win in the 90 minutes. I think it's what did we say, chris, plus 125 for Spain to win, something like that. I'm taking Spain to win so that way, no matter what happens like that. So I'm taking Spain. I'm taking Spain to win. So that way, no matter what happens in that game, I'll be happy. I'll either be happy that England won or happy that it's coming home, that it came home, or cash out, cash some winnings there.
Speaker 1:I have a question. I was talking sorry, sorry, harry, to cut you off, but Sorry, harry, to cut you off. But Harry and I were talking briefly before we started and we had a discussion about which team bodes well for a PK. So if we have England and Spain going to PKs, does that advantage England and Pickford or does that advantage Spain?
Speaker 3:I think it's advantage England because they've won their last two PK rounds. So I think they've got a lot more confidence. So I think that if the game, if the England-Spain game, goes in overtime, I think that gives England the advantage. I think they've just got more experience as far as PK taking. They're losing streak of losing games in the PK rounds is over. They've won like three out of their last four in their last two. So, yeah, what's interesting is, you know, Harry Kane getting taken out. What's his health going to be? Because he's like Mr Automatic with PKs. So, but I don't you know, like I said, I don't think the game's going to go in overtime. I think Spain is just too good. They're too fast. I don't think England's defense can keep up with them. I see Spain winning that game 2-1, maybe even 3-1.
Speaker 1:I have my favorite long shot pick for that game. I don't know his name, he's 16. Yamim Hamal, is that how you say it? Yep For him to score outside of the box plus 1,500. I love that Plus 1,500?.
Speaker 4:I did it last game.
Speaker 1:Yes, you did Against my French. Unfortunately, Parley ruined.
Speaker 2:Yep, that was terrible.
Speaker 3:So what if you lay $5 on that? What's the payoff?
Speaker 1:Probably $90.
Speaker 3:Yeah, why not?
Speaker 1:Let's see $5 on Yamal to score outside the box, $5 wins $80. Yeah, if you do $50, it's $. Yeah, if you do 50, it's 800.
Speaker 5:Then you can go to Copa Jeez.
Speaker 4:That was boring.
Speaker 1:What do you make of the? I looked at the crowd for the Charlotte matchup last night. Looked to be heavily yellow. A lot of Los Cafeteros in the audience. They seem to be the aggressors in the stadium. Brawls in the crowd. Would you care to comment on their transgressions? Post-90 minutes.
Speaker 3:I think a little bit of Aguardiente may have had something to do with it. I think there may have been a small group of Colombians that snuck in some plastic bags with some Colombian alcoholic licorice-flavored beverage.
Speaker 1:Oh, they were going to say powder.
Speaker 3:Put a little bit too much in there. Oh boy, here we go. The thing is, I would have you know. The thing is, I would have loved to have seen the video. What led up to it? Was it just Colombian fans just kind of taunting the Uruguayan fans, or were they throwing crap at them? So I get the Uruguayan players going into the stands saying they're protecting their family members, but it's hard for me to defend or have any respect for a team where they've got a player that has bitten opponents on multiple occasions.
Speaker 4:What World Cup was that? Was that 2010? When did Italy win.
Speaker 1:Was that 08?
Speaker 2:No, I think that was 04. No Against France. No, no, it think that was 04.
Speaker 3:No, against France. No, no, it was against Italy. I think it was a group game, or it might have been around a 16 game.
Speaker 1:Well, I searched for Luis Suarez bite and a lot of it's coming up yesterday, so let me change that to World Cup. He's still doing it. Well, there's.
Speaker 3:Allegedly there's a video showing him Kind of either attacking change that to World Cup, he's still doing it. Allegedly there's a video showing him either attacking or aggressively going towards a Colombian player and they're accusing him of trying to bite him. I don't know if that's true or not. When I saw the video, I didn't see it. You said 2014?.
Speaker 1:Yeah, 2014. It was Chalene.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I'm looking at the video right now and you can't really.
Speaker 1:Suarez is kind of a bitch-ass, though, Like I mean.
Speaker 5:The dark past of Suarez resurfaced on Wednesday night as the Uruguayan striker appeared to attempt to bite a Colombian player following their defeat in the Copa America semifinals. The incident occurred after the final whistle, amidst pushing between the players that America's semifinals. The incident occurred after the final whistle, amidst pushing between the players Despite.
Speaker 3:So anyway, you know, looking at the video, he's got a correspondent Harry over here. I just pause it. He's got, he's got. He's got his hand again on a Colombian player's neck, so he's definitely being aggressive Incident sparked outrage on social. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh oh, that one looks like he's trying to bite him. Oh.
Speaker 4:Okay, okay.
Speaker 5:The Colombian player snapped back, saying get the fuck away from me and this is not the first time the veteran striker has been involved. Well, there you have it.
Speaker 3:So you know, anyway, how can I have sympathy for the Uruguayan players where they've got this jackass? Who? Uruguayan, uruguayan, Caribbean, caribbean, whatever you want to call?
Speaker 1:it. You said Wimbledon. I'm going to correct you when it comes to that.
Speaker 3:But it's Wimbledon because it's a D-O-N you have a word English. The other thing too. It's Colombia, all right. C-o-l-o it's Columbia, all right, c-o-l-o. It's not C-O-L-U. Columbia is a country in South America, not a city in South Carolina.
Speaker 1:Yeah, tell that to. South Carolinians.
Speaker 3:Harry said that the difference between Wimbledon and Wimbledon is the fact that it has a D. It's the letter D, I've been told. Go to England and start saying Wimbledon. It's kind of like being on a cruise ship and telling the captain hey, I like your boat, they're going to snap at you. They're going to snap at you and correct you immediately. They'll be politely, but they'll be very, very strongly saying it's not a boat, it's a ship.
Speaker 2:I heard that Uruguayan fans got avalanched. I assume that's when you just get beer and other liquids poured on you.
Speaker 1:It's on the other liquids.
Speaker 3:Let's go to a game, pay $1,000 for a lower bowl ticket and then let's throw a $25 beer. Yeah, that's crazy. That makes no sense to me at all. That was weird. Look at the English fans. They were throwing cups of beer or cups of bottled water at Southgate. He's got them in the final. It's crazy, man. These football fans are nuts. Man, they're nuts.
Speaker 2:They're also keeping them too officially if they lose on Sunday England.
Speaker 1:England. Did you see? He's going to have a knighthood, regardless of when they win or lose.
Speaker 3:I also heard Well, he's got the best record of any English manager. He's got the best record of any English manager. He's got the best record. He's been to what? Two Euro finals. He's been to a World Cup semifinal, so he's got a good record. He just hasn't brought it.
Speaker 1:Harry on Monday? Will he have a trophy in his cabinet? Will he have that Euro final trophy? Will he have it for the first time? And what's the english 50? Is it 56, 54 years? What's the?
Speaker 3:oh gosh, england hasn't won anything since what? When they hosted the world cup? What was that? 62 66, so 48 we're coming, yeah, so um, no, no, spain's going to have the, they're going to be lifting the trophy and England's going to go home with second place medals.
Speaker 1:Who's a better footballer, saka or Palmer?
Speaker 3:I like them both. I like them both.
Speaker 1:You got to pick one.
Speaker 3:You got to.
Speaker 1:Got to pick one. They you got to pick one. They're both about the same age, right?
Speaker 3:Yeah, I think Palmer's a little more. He can do a little bit more Saka's kind of one-dimensional, but it's, you know, he's very effective. So yeah, yeah, I would take either one. I like both.
Speaker 1:They're both 22 At the best years ahead of them. Unbiased opinion, I would say Cole Palmer is the better player.
Speaker 3:I agree, you put me on the spot. I'm trying to be very objective here. I'm picking Spain, even though my heart's with England.
Speaker 2:I'd probably say Off the top of my head. I don't know Goals and assists this past season. I mean, I don't know what the numbers are. Maybe we'll just go by that.
Speaker 3:I don't know the numbers, but when it comes to just kind of flipping over to Copa America, it was 34 for Palmer, by the way, 34.
Speaker 1:34 for Palmer, by the way 34.
Speaker 3:I'm picking Columbia to beat Argentina. I think we're going to see some messy tears after the game.
Speaker 2:Ooh, what's the bet on that?
Speaker 1:I apologize. I said Cole Palmer had 34 goals and assists. Saka had 35 assists in his career, so they're about the same.
Speaker 2:That's true, good point.
Speaker 3:Okay, chris, what would we say? Columbia is what plus 180 or 220?
Speaker 1:Regulation or just to lift the trophy?
Speaker 3:Regulation Regulation.
Speaker 1:Follow the money. Well, in this, I mean, if you want to win some money, you got to bet on, or you got to bet on. I'll bleep that out. Yeah, I can't look at Hard.
Speaker 3:Rock, because I can't open my phone to look at Hard Rock.
Speaker 2:You don't have an official sports book yet for Sportsbrove.
Speaker 1:Well, I mean, I'm going to bleep this out, but chances for lack of a better word, odds excuse me, odds suck compared to DraftKings and FanDuel.
Speaker 4:I've heard that Really.
Speaker 1:They like, juice them. If you get like plus 900 on HardRock, it's probably plus 1,200 for FanDuel DraftKings. Like Andrew, could you look up 2026 World Cup odds and tell me what Spain is? Are you going?
Speaker 2:to bleep out the other two as well.
Speaker 1:Well, I mean, if they want to respond to my sponsorship emails, that's their problem. But we might bleep all those and put underdog sports in there if we need to. Ooh price picks. Yeah, underdog sports.
Speaker 2:It's going to be a bleep fest out here.
Speaker 1:Harry, let me ask you a question. You're the Arsenal manager. You have the next 10 years ahead of you. Are you signing Hameen Yamal or are you signing?
Speaker 2:Hameen Yamal, he's not going anywhere, he's not leaving Barcelona.
Speaker 1:He's not leaving Barcelona are you taking him or Bellingham Jude, bellingham yeah, it's 9-1, chris Bellingham.
Speaker 4:Yeah, it's 9-1, chris.
Speaker 3:Bellingham, because I just don't know if this kid is ready to play in England. I think he would get beat up. He needs to fill out a little bit more body-wise.
Speaker 5:How old is he?
Speaker 3:He's only 16, but the kid probably weighs what I think he's like 21. He probably weighs what I think he's like 21. He probably weighs 165 pounds. He wouldn't survive English football at this point. Give him a couple of years, so that's an easy one.
Speaker 2:He could play NBA in the 80s.
Speaker 5:He can't go give Danny Ainge Danny.
Speaker 3:Ainge. So I say, with Colombia, argentina, take not only am I picking Colombia.
Speaker 3:I'm also doing a plus 2.5 goals in that game. I see that I see multiple goals. I think that's going to be a wide-open game. You've finally got two teams that are not going to play for a tie. They're not going to park the bus. This could be a very wide, open and entertaining game. I'm hoping the Euro finals the same way. I really hope England doesn't pack it in. I really hope that they try to go toe-to-toe. I'd like to see two really open, entertaining finals. We've seen some really exciting semifinals so far. I hope that continues.
Speaker 3:I don't want to see a 0-0 game go to PKs with only three shots on goal the whole game.
Speaker 1:Well, Lamin Yamal is 66 kilograms and Jude Bellingham is 74 kilograms, so maybe he's built for EPL 66 kilograms, 145 pounds 164.
Speaker 3:Yeah, if you weigh 145 pounds, you better look like Maradona.
Speaker 5:Well, if I had to be president, I wouldn't have picked Vice President.
Speaker 1:Whoops, sorry, joe Biden was on my timeline, he was talking about Vice President Trump.
Speaker 3:Is he awake? It's his bedtime, isn't it?
Speaker 1:Oh, this is from a couple hours ago.
Speaker 3:Okay.
Speaker 2:I have a question for everybody what do you guys think about that penalty call on Harry Kane? I didn't love it.
Speaker 1:I didn't think it was a penalty.
Speaker 2:I hate it.
Speaker 1:I didn't think it was a penalty. I think if it was 0-0 it would not have been a penalty, but if it was 0-0, it would not have been a penalty. But because it was 0-1, they called it a penalty. And I will say that the guy who scored for Netherlands Javi, is that his name? Oh, that goal yeah that goal was brilliant. That was awesome and, you know, declan Rice looked horrid on that play. I don't know what club he plays. I think he plays in England.
Speaker 3:Yeah, not his best moment. Not his best moment.
Speaker 1:It is. I can't remember. Let me look it up. Oh, it's Arsenal. It's Arsenal, declan.
Speaker 3:Rice, not his best moment. Not his best moment. Not his best moment but I think if this four is tied, I don't think they call that penalty. Well, here's the way I look at it. If that play is outside the penalty box, is it called a foul? I think the answer is yes. Studs up, studs up, going towards the defender, fair, makes contact. There's contact with the leg. Granted, it was in the follow-through. I think it's a foul and I thought the call was right.
Speaker 1:I just don't like it. I thought he was just putting his leg through. I don't like it either.
Speaker 3:I don't like it either, but I've seen that called all the time.
Speaker 2:Well, I think it's a penalty, no matter what, if they always are going to go to VR, for it.
Speaker 3:Well, I think what hurt him is the studs were up and they remained up and when the contact was made it was with the studs. The contact, if he would have followed through and, let's say, the top of his foot hit Kane's foot, it's not a foul, but I think because he had his ankle bent it up and he had the studs up and the contact was made, I think that kind of made the call easy and, like I said before, if that's outside the penalty box, if that's anywhere else in the field, that's a foul. There's no hesitation there. That's called a foul. Live, who does Dumfries?
Speaker 2:play for Inter, I think.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, he's been at Inter since 21.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I think it's stupid to call a foul that happened after a shot attempt on goal. I agree.
Speaker 3:I get it. I get the argument, I get it.
Speaker 1:But I agree with Corey, but I also agree with Harry that if that happened around midfield, that's a penalty. I don't think it's a card, but I think it's a penalty around midfield.
Speaker 2:That's a penalty. I don't think it's a card, but I think it's a penalty. Then you're going to say you should only call, like if you're going to create it fair.
Speaker 1:then you're going to say only call fouls that you would call a pin. Victor was just saying that earlier.
Speaker 2:I forget what he said there's fouls, that are pins and there's fouls that are outside the box.
Speaker 3:I haven't heard your guys pick for the final. Who are you guys picking? Who are you putting your money on? Let me put it that way, andrew.
Speaker 4:Well, you listened to episode one. I had Spain to win the whole thing. That was two years ago.
Speaker 1:He was big. He was big on Gopko and he was awesome this tournament. He's been on it for two years.
Speaker 4:That was my golden boot pick for World Cup 2022. It just turned out to be 2024 Europe preview. We can go back and edit that out. It's a two-year delay. I also had Canada making a deep run. It was just a miscommunication about topic right, I think.
Speaker 3:Did you make a pre-tournament futures bet on Spain?
Speaker 4:I did. Yes, I have them in a parlay. I've got Spain and England, two different parlays. England, though, is parlayed with Argentina. So, that's the combination I need and Spain Argentina. Brazil by itself yeah, by itself. Yeah.
Speaker 3:What were your odds on that?
Speaker 4:I'm at 4 plus 400. I think it was right after the round of 16 I went ahead and jumped on them. To me they've looked like the best team.
Speaker 3:I can't believe you guys do parlays on multiple sporting events. That's great. That's a lot of patience to wait for all those seasons to end.
Speaker 1:Plus 900 in 2026.
Speaker 3:I like that. Plus 900, though man Come on, yeah, but that's two years away.
Speaker 1:You could put that in for two years and get that return.
Speaker 3:Easy money. You're a financial advisor, Chris. What if you put that money in the stock market? Let's say you take $1,000 at plus 900 pays what you take $1,000 and put it in the market. What does better in two years, assuming Spain wins the World Cup?
Speaker 1:If the SEC or FINRA is listening right now, I disavow whatever he said. I apologize for what he said and I apologize for putting you on the spot I am not a financial advisor and I can't pretend to be, but if you put $1,000 on the list, $900, you will receive $9,000.
Speaker 2:What if the ACC is listening?
Speaker 1:Well, they're changing their bill of rights every 16 months, it sounds like, so I'll take those chances With them.
Speaker 2:I mean, if you do something that Upsets the ACC, though you can just cry about it and let you off the hook.
Speaker 1:FSU fans would never cry about it though.
Speaker 3:Andrew, who are you picking in Copa? You're taking Argentina because you have the bet on there, right. Yeah're taking Argentina because you have the bet on there, right.
Speaker 4:Yeah, I think Argentina is a better team. I wouldn't be surprised if Columbia won, though.
Speaker 3:What's your prediction on the two game scores?
Speaker 4:I think both are going to be low scoring. I think finals are generally tighter. Officials are going to call it tighter, players are going to call it tighter, players are going to play more conservative. So I could see both of them going to Penn.
Speaker 3:Spain's got three players that were suspended for the semifinal. They're back for the final. So not only is Spain at full force, they're well-rested as well.
Speaker 1:How was Morata? I saw he got hit by a security guard. Is he good to go?
Speaker 3:Yeah, I think he's questionable. He might have tweaked, but they're so loaded doesn't matter. Yeah, that was crazy.
Speaker 1:Harry, what do you think about Klopp being a manager for US men's national team?
Speaker 3:It's a dream pick. I hope it happens. I think they should just open. They should just give them a blank check, say, come coach our team and just fill this out whatever you want, you know, if it's not Klopp, if it's not Klopp, I want it to be a European coach who has some sort of experience in international play or has coached in multiple countries. So they coach in Spain and England, or you know kind of like a pep.
Speaker 3:Pep's not going to happen because Pep's locked in. But Klopp, you know he said he stepped aside. Um didn't want to coach anymore liverpool because it was just too much. This is a coaching. A national team is a part-time job. It's a dream job. Not the, not that the us job. Just saying being a national team coach is a dream job because all you're doing 80, 80, 90 of the time is just watching film, watching games of players and deciding who to bring to camp, and then you know you're coaching them a couple of weeks maybe, like one week out of one or two weeks out of every three months, you know, during the international breaks.
Speaker 3:So I think it's a dream job for Klopp in that sense you know that he doesn't have to. There won't be that much pressure to win the whole thing. That's going to be pressure to. You know, get the. If he gets a job, you got to get the U S out of the, out of the, out of the group stage. But I would love to see I, just I, the only thing about the U S search for a new coach, just thing about the US search for a new coach. Just don't hire an MLS coach. I don't want to see an MLS coach. I don't want to see an American guy. I want a guy that's going to go in there, that's going to put fear in the players. Say that again.
Speaker 1:The manager from I don't even know his name, the guy that coaches for LA. He's the favorite. How's that going to change anything?
Speaker 3:He's been an MLS coach for how many years? Three years. So he won the mls cup. Big deal, nobody even knows exactly. Wow, didn't, yeah, didn't he win the lma? That's what I thought I read. He won the mls cup one year or a couple years ago okay, that's whatever.
Speaker 1:How about marino?
Speaker 3:I'll look. Can you imagine how much fun that would be? Can you imagine the fear, Didn't he just sign with?
Speaker 1:like I don't know how to say the name Fenerbahce, fenerbahce, fenerbahce. Does anyone know how to say the name Victor? How do you say Fenerbahce? Yeah, you said it right.
Speaker 5:Fenerbahce.
Speaker 1:I think I said it wrong four times, but all right, you can cut it, cut it first time. I'll just splice them together. Finnerbache, what?
Speaker 4:about Jesse Marsh, the Canadian coach. Why did we not go with him?
Speaker 3:He interviewed. He said that he interviewed and he said that he interviewed and he said that they basically brushed him off. He said they gave him a courtesy interview and they basically just said okay, thanks for coming see. Ya, he felt disrespected is what he said during the interview process.
Speaker 2:Christopher, go ahead thank you.
Speaker 1:So the group of people that decided Christopher go ahead, thank you. So the group of people that decided when Burr Halter was, you know, on the ropes and they decided to bring him back, the group of people that decided to you know part ways. Who is deciding that? Who like what group of people? What are they called? What are their qualifications? Who's in this group? Who is deciding these decisions? For the United States men's national team.
Speaker 3:I know that there's that one guy that makes a decision, but then I heard there's like two other committees that have to approve it.
Speaker 1:What are these committees Like? Who are they? What are their qualifications, who are they? Why?
Speaker 2:are they deciding? Wouldn't it just be like the US Soccer Federation board?
Speaker 1:Yeah, who was in that? Let's see Carlos Valderrama. He's Colombian. No, valderrama, yes, he is Tampa Bay Mutiny legend.
Speaker 2:US Soccer President Cindy Parlo-Cohn, first woman president.
Speaker 1:We should just hire Carly Lloyd To be the manager of the US men's national team. Her and Hope Solo VP. Oh, forgot about her. What's Hope Solo VP? Forgot about Hope Solo? What's Hope Solo doing nowadays? I think?
Speaker 4:she arrested.
Speaker 3:I think she did some online porn stuff or something she's on OnlyFans.
Speaker 2:Didn't we just fire the president?
Speaker 1:She's 42. Her middle name is Amelia.
Speaker 4:Is she still married to that former Bucks tight end? What was his name? Jeremy Stevens. Jeremy Stevens, what a callback.
Speaker 3:I think there's been some domestic violence involved in that relationship over the years, jeremy.
Speaker 4:Stevens, that guy we outbust.
Speaker 2:Married to who?
Speaker 4:Jeremy Stevens. He was a tire for the Bucs.
Speaker 1:He was like 6'7, 6'8.
Speaker 2:He was huge. Was he married to, though, hope?
Speaker 1:Solo. She was a goalkeeper For the US Women's National Team that won a couple World Cups. Carly Lloyd, Alex Morgan Maybe Alex Morgan should be the manager. She commands respect.
Speaker 2:Perry, I have a serious question. Okay, I'll stop. Actually, I'm going to give you three candidates I'll actually open this up for everybody here Three candidates who is honestly the best option. Candidates who is honestly the best option Lexi Lawless, jay Wright or Bill Belichick.
Speaker 1:Bill Belichick's got too much shit going on. He's got too much. He's dating too hard right now he's out.
Speaker 4:You forgot Coach K Corey. He's got to come in and save the US National Team again.
Speaker 2:We can do a double ticket with Coach K and Jay Wright Coach.
Speaker 1:If you want to take out Bill Belichick and put in Coach K. Do you want to ask it again?
Speaker 2:I'd rather take out Jay Wright, but yeah, no.
Speaker 1:Yeah, jay Wright, of course, is the former coach of Villanova. Yeah, I know Ball, harry knows Ball, as Wright, of course, is the former coach of Villanova. Yep, okay, I know Ball.
Speaker 2:Harry knows Ball as well.
Speaker 1:He's been the CBS coach, I thought Tibbs is there. Is he gone?
Speaker 4:I mean they're just collecting all of Jay Wright's former players, so it only makes sense whenever they fire Tibbs.
Speaker 1:What's the newest Villanova guy that they got? They were talking with Matt.
Speaker 2:Bill Bridges Is he good?
Speaker 1:Oh, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4:They gave him a ton for him, though I mean he averaged almost 30 last year on the Nets.
Speaker 1:Yeah good year. Let's chill out for a moment. I want to give Harry a moment to talk about NBA. I know he's a big NBA guy. I want to give him his moment. Harry, what do you think about the future state of the Knicks? Harry, 30 seconds NBA go.
Speaker 4:Harry, what's your take on Bronny?
Speaker 3:The Bron sign. Just another reason why the NBA is shit. That's all I can say he scored four points in his summer league debut. What did you think? I'm surprised he wasn't picked higher.
Speaker 1:Did you see him? I saw a video online. Obviously this is completely out of context, but he took like a layup or not a layup, but just like a shot, even like closer than the free throw line, and it was an air ball, yeah.
Speaker 3:What were his stats at UFC? Not good, he averaged like 8 plus yeah, less than 10. And he was drafted in one round.
Speaker 2:Second round 52nd pick 55th why not?
Speaker 4:Yeah, if he was anyone else, he wouldn't have been drafted.
Speaker 3:He only started 6 out of 25 games and averaged 4.8 points a game.
Speaker 2:How unusual was his contract. He got like what, four years, eight million or something.
Speaker 4:Yeah, yeah. What position is he Shooting guard? What's LeBron Small forward?
Speaker 2:I thought he was a power forward. Power forward, small forward, whatever Three, four Small ball forward.
Speaker 3:Here's his stats 4.8 points a game. Field goal percentage 36.6. Free throw 67%. Three points 26%.
Speaker 4:Yeah, and no one watched his games because USC was terrible.
Speaker 3:So he wasn't a starter on a terrible team and he averaged less than five points a game.
Speaker 2:All right, where did Isaiah Collier go?
Speaker 3:Was that a?
Speaker 2:cat Golf clubs. Isaiah Collier went like top 15 or something right.
Speaker 4:I don't think he was a first.
Speaker 2:He came in as the number one recruit. We can move away from this in a second.
Speaker 4:Yeah, he was first rounder 29.
Speaker 1:Real quick before we move away. I have a question Because we are partially a Kentucky Wildcat podcast what Kentucky Wildcats were drafted in the first round and when were they picked? Because I know we talked about it way back when, months ago. So catch up to listeners who have been sticking with us through thick and thin. Where did they get picked?
Speaker 4:So our two bench players were drafted. Number three overall and number eight overall Did not start a single game. Is that Shepard? Our starter was undrafted.
Speaker 1:Well, good thing that coach is still there to make those decisions. No Right, yeah, he was.
Speaker 2:Telling him to go to the Spurs.
Speaker 4:He got traded to the Timberwolves. That's pretty good.
Speaker 1:So who really like? I really don't remember who were the like, who were the Kentucky Wildcats draft picks in the first round and when were they picked?
Speaker 4:Reed Shepard went three to the Rockets and Dillingham went eight. Yeah, reed Shepard went three. Was that a reach? Yeah, a four-star recruit from Kentucky. We were thinking this time last year maybe he gets 10 minutes a game and he went three overall. It's crazy.
Speaker 3:That's nuts.
Speaker 2:Well, I'm going to march. Weren't some people saying he'd go second? Like him and Dillingham were like top three, top four.
Speaker 4:Yeah, no, I mean I don't know how good these two France players are that went ahead of him, but I mean Reed Shepard was the first American player drafted who won Zaire R Rushier.
Speaker 1:Oh, the French guy, yeah, france.
Speaker 4:Adam Marseille.
Speaker 2:Back-to-back number one overall picks. Watched a lot of French ball last year.
Speaker 1:No, it's just the first French state that came to mind. So was it just Reed, shepard and Dillingham?
Speaker 4:Those were the only two Kentucky Wildcats, and Antonio Reeves went in the second round to the Pelicans.
Speaker 1:How many Duke players in the first round Other than First round?
Speaker 4:You had the TikTok star, Jared McCain. Yeah, that guy's hilarious. Oh my gosh, 76ers fans are about to get trolled so hard for this kid's TikTok.
Speaker 2:Lepowski went. What 0 for?
Speaker 4:something, the other night. Yeah, Lepowski Gosh.
Speaker 1:How many FSU players went to Toronto.
Speaker 4:How many FSU players drafted?
Speaker 1:None, yeahsu players were drafted None, yeah, oh yeah, not this year. How many Gator players were drafted?
Speaker 4:Not this year, none. A couple withdrew, they withdrew. You know, corey, I was watching Summer League. I forgot Cattleton is out there on the Lakers.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 4:Looking pretty good man.
Speaker 1:I forgot about that guy, so I will direct this question to Corey and Andrew. Give me a way too early NBA champion pick for next year.
Speaker 4:NBA champion. We just ended the finals.
Speaker 2:The Celtics.
Speaker 4:Yeah, it's going to be the Celtics. The West is going to be so interesting going forward because the T-Wolves are going to be good.
Speaker 2:I'd like to see what the 76ers are going to do the T-Wolves I hate. The T-Wolves are going to be good. I'd like to see what the 76ers are going to do the.
Speaker 1:T-Wolves. I hate the T-Wolves. Dude, you don't like the T-Wolves. You don't like Anthony Edwards. I don't like Anthony Edwards. I'm not a fan. He's good, but that's a hot take.
Speaker 4:Are you not going to watch the US men's Olympic basketball team? Did you?
Speaker 1:see where he's like. I'm the number one option. It's like Curry LeBron is Durant playing.
Speaker 2:He's ahead of Curry as the option, by the way, for sure, yeah, I would say no.
Speaker 4:I saw the game. It was a fun game. Last night they start their first games against Serbia and Djokic.
Speaker 2:I think they're going to be good. I don't know.
Speaker 1:Do you think Philly's going to be good next year?
Speaker 4:The 76ers- no, paul George, we've got to stop by on Paul George.
Speaker 2:Play off Pete. He had one of his best years in the past five years last year. I think he'll be good.
Speaker 1:I don't know. Yeah, maybe Was it him, embiid and Maxie. Yeah, it's the big three.
Speaker 4:They got rid of the Tobias Harris is gone.
Speaker 2:They just re-signed. What's his name? Lowry today, I think.
Speaker 3:Harry, what do you think about Kyle Lowry? I know nothing about the NBA, so you're asking the wrong guy. Corey, what are your picks for the Euro and Copa America finals? Give me your game winner and score, and then, christopher, give me yours.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I kind of like the Warriors too. No, I'm kidding, I like England. I think England's going to win. I think they played really well last game, so I think they're trending.
Speaker 3:They win in 90 or they go to extra time.
Speaker 2:I think they win in 90. I'm thinking like 2-1 or 1-0. I'm going to go 2-1.
Speaker 1:I'm going to say Jude scores, you think they blank. Spain won nothing. I mean that's a final score, I mean they're not going to. Sorry, go ahead.
Speaker 3:You said 1-0 or 2-1.
Speaker 2:And what about Copa?
Speaker 3:America.
Speaker 2:Argentina. I feel like that might not be that close of a game, but the score might be close.
Speaker 1:I don't know. I love Colombia.
Speaker 2:Maybe like 2-0, with a late goal to seal it.
Speaker 1:When's the last time Colombia's lost? They're hungry, they're ready to go and I think Harry mentioned this earlier it's going to be a pro-Columbia crowd.
Speaker 2:No, I feel like this is going to be a big rally around Di Maria. Last game confirmed what Di Maria Argentina Is he going to play Columbia's on a 28.
Speaker 3:Yes, he has been Columbia's on a 28-game unbeaten streak. The last time they lost was to Argentina Was it three years ago Four years ago, something like that In World Cup qualifying. But the last time Colombia and Argentina played in World Cup qualifying, colombia beat them. So during this streak, colombia has beaten Germany, spain, brazil and Argentina, so it's not like well.
Speaker 1:Brazil sucks right. Why does Brazil suck? A genuine question. Why does Brazil suck at soccer?
Speaker 3:now, Because they're all about. They're all about, they all want to be Neymars, they all want to be individual players and when they come together, it's just too many individual players. They just don't play the team. They're very unorganized. I've never seen a Brazilian team where there's so many missed passes 10, 20-yard passes that they just miss and I think it's because these players are the superstars of their team, where they just dribble and they're playing in these leagues where they're allowed to dribble, where they just dribble and they're playing in these leagues where they're allowed to dribble. And when you play in the South American qualifiers in the Copa America and the fact that you're playing on the small field is a huge disadvantage to a team like Brazil, where a team likes to dribble a lot, because if you dribble a lot, you're going to get whacked.
Speaker 1:Who's Brazil's best player? Is it Vinicius?
Speaker 3:On paper you know other than Neymar. You have to say Neymar's our best player, but Vinicius is. He plays great for his club but he plays shit for his country.
Speaker 1:But has Neymar played in Copa or no?
Speaker 3:Oh no, no, he's been injured.
Speaker 2:He's still on an ACL tear.
Speaker 3:Yeah, he hasn't played in any of Brazil's World Cup qualifying games.
Speaker 2:I don't think Vinny played that last game either.
Speaker 3:He was suspended. He had the two yellows. He was suspended. That's why he didn't play in the quarterfinal. Christopher, who are your picks?
Speaker 1:For this weekend.
Speaker 3:Yes, sir.
Speaker 1:Wimbledon first, please. So I got the Wimbledon favorite Moving on Winning and I'm parlaying that with. I'm parlaying it with just I'm not going to do the 90. I'm not doing PKs, I'm just saying to lift the trophy. Spain, colombia, you parlay those together, it's plus 300. I love the value there.
Speaker 1:Colombia is on a roll when you watch the semifinal. They look good. They were down a man. I did not watch the first half, I'll be honest. I watched the second half and they had a lot of great chances. I was talking to Harry earlier. He had Columbia over one and a half goals and they should have scored three or four in the last 10 to 15 minutes of that game. I think they look good. I think Argentina is a great team, but I think Colombia is hungry. I think they're going to win it and I think that if you look on paper between Spain and England, this is the game that Spain wins and it's the game that England loses. So I would parlay Spain to lift the trophy. I hope Peter at Jax is not listening to this right now, but I'll take Spain to lift the trophy and Colombia to win the trophy and then I will also parlay that with the Wimbledon favorite you going Alcaraz, I guess he's the favorite right now. The Wimbledon favorite wins.
Speaker 4:We're going Alcaraz. I guess he's the favorite right now. You can get Djokovic for plus 150. And if you want to go, I'll take Djokovic. Yeah.
Speaker 1:Novak, yeah, we got to get Neal on.
Speaker 2:We got to get Neal back on Wimbledon rematch would be Alcaraz-Djokovic Yep, but I kind of like Wimbledon rematch would be a Alcaraz Djokovic Yep, but I kind of like.
Speaker 4:Mavidev at plus 600 is interesting. He's been playing really well. If you parlay that with Spain and Colombia, $5 wins you $137.
Speaker 1:I, of course, Victor Corey and Harry all know the answer to this. We all know who Medvedev is, but our listeners, who have no idea who that is, could you explain it to the listeners?
Speaker 4:He's the Russian guy. He's got a little bit of an attitude. People don't really like him too much because he's Russian. No, he's really good. He's been around for a while. He's won a couple majors. He's that tall l while he's won a couple majors.
Speaker 2:He's that tall, lanky guy.
Speaker 4:Yeah, very skinny.
Speaker 3:You know what's sick? Look at some of these tennis players when you go to ESPN and the individual matchups and then you go to the individual player and it shows you what they've earned this year, what they've earned in their careers. It's ridiculous Some of the money these guys, these people make playing tennis.
Speaker 4:Yeah, like I was looking at 41 million.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I mean the girl that won today in the semifinal. The one that I bet won the Italian girl. She hasn't won a single tournament, she's already fricking won like $10 million this year alone.
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 3:More than she's won in her career. She's like 24, 25 playing since she was 18. It's just ridiculous the amount of money they make. We went in the wrong racket, man Racket, get it Wrong racket. Yeah you guys. Gotcha, yeah you guys.
Speaker 3:Gotcha, andrew, I want you to text me that big parlay. You were talking about the $5 one. Yeah, I like this. I like this. I like those $5 big parlays. Nothing to lose. The biggest problem I'm going to have after starting on Monday is what am I going to do during the week? Am I going to actually work at 12 o'clock and 3 o'clock?
Speaker 2:We have a US Open next week. The opening ceremonies for the Olympics are on like the 24th.
Speaker 3:I don't know if I'm going to be watching in the Olympics. Man.
Speaker 4:What You're not going to be watching in the Olympics man, what they're not going to watch the Olympics.
Speaker 2:It just doesn't interest me anymore Like Harry's voting for Joe Biden.
Speaker 4:So on Netflix right now they have this documentary called Sprint. They followed all the track athletes, the US team and a couple of Jamaican runners Just kind of did the last year when they went to world championships, kind of previewing up to the Olympics. It's really good. You should check it out. But the, the, the uh. The U? S track team is the best we've ever had, men's and women's. It's incredible Like we've got some of the fastest people we've ever had.
Speaker 2:Ari Richardson.
Speaker 4:Yeah, Remember she got disqualified from the last Olympics because of a failed drug test. But there's this kid, Noah Lyles. He's running the 100 and the 200, and he won both at the World Championships last year. He's the favorite to win gold in both, which has never happened.
Speaker 1:For a US male to win gold in both, which has never happened for a US male who was the female sprinter that got removed because of marijuana.
Speaker 4:Yeah, Sha'Carri Richardson. What a joke. Yeah, no, she's good. She's going to be in it this year. She's our favorite to win the 100. She's awesome, she's so good. Yeah, oh, so we can bet on the.
Speaker 5:Olympics right. Yeah you can bet on it.
Speaker 3:Then I guess I will be watching.
Speaker 4:Everything changes. You could get the United States men's basketball team from minus 500 to win the gold right now.
Speaker 1:Did they beat Canada this week? Did they?
Speaker 4:come back and win. Yeah, they won by like 15 last night.
Speaker 1:I saw they were up. Canada was up like 15 to 4.
Speaker 4:Yeah, they had like 8 turnovers in the first quarter the US did, then they finally turned it on.
Speaker 1:Who are the big players for Canada? Is it Murray?
Speaker 4:Is he Canadian? Yeah, they got Jamal Murray. They got Shea Gilgis Alexander. Where did Murray go to college? They both went to Kentucky and they got Trey Lyles, who also went to Kentucky, and then you had three players on the United States. You had Devin Booker, Bam Adebayo, Anthony Davis.
Speaker 3:Andrew, you're the NBA expert. This US Olympic men's basketball team is all NBA players, correct?
Speaker 4:Yep.
Speaker 3:Okay, so you work for a major newspaper and the US does not win the gold. The US does not win the gold. What newspaper?
Speaker 4:does Andrew work for If they don't win the gold? What's the headline? Give me threeha work for If they don't win the gold.
Speaker 3:If they don't win the gold, what's the headline? What's your headline? Give me three headlines. I mean they have to win Is this hypothetical, they don't win the gold the next day. What's the newspaper headline on the sports page or even the front page? What is the New?
Speaker 4:York Times. What's the big red line Washington?
Speaker 2:Post.
Speaker 4:It's just going to be about Europeans are taking over basketball. I mean, look at the last five MVP winners you got Jokic, you got Embiid, like it's yeah, a lot of the best players in the league, luka Doncic, a lot of the best players in the league right now are European, and I think that's actually motivating our players to actually take some more pride. Because you go back to 2004 when we finished bronze or something in the Athens Olympics. That was the really disappointing national team and then they came back with a redemption team in 2008,.
Speaker 3:Right, Would you describe this US men's basketball team in the Olympics as their A-team? Is this their A-team? Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 4:You even got Joel Embiid. He's from Cambodia, but he's playing for the US because we need a center Cambodia. I thought he was from Cameroon. I'm sorry, cameroon, yeah, not Cambodia.
Speaker 3:So are you saying that if they don't win the gold, it's kind of like well, you know, these European teams are pretty good and I'll follow up what other countries are going to be the favorites or that they have an opportunity to win the gold instead of the US.
Speaker 4:Well, so last night, actually, canada is one of the better teams too, because they got like five NBA players. They're pretty good. I mean, you got Djokic in Serbia, you got Doncic on Spain. Spain's really good. Germany they won Wait, slovenian, slovenian, yeah, yeah, yeah. What did I say? Spain, spain's good, though Spain's good.
Speaker 1:Andrew doesn't know ball. He's in the offseason.
Speaker 4:Isn't goaltending allowed in Olympic basketball? Yeah?
Speaker 3:No, yeah, they play by fever rule. So yeah, yeah, I always found that interesting. They don't have the wide paint now for free throws, do they?
Speaker 4:Or did they get away with that? The paint for the free throws.
Speaker 3:Oh, you mean like coloring in the paint? No, instead of it being a square, it was like.
Speaker 2:The width of the paint itself? I don't know.
Speaker 3:I don't know much about people. All right, you talk to me. I'll be watching some Olympics Trackerfield, you got me intrigued.
Speaker 4:Yeah, no, trackerfield's going to be awesome. I mean swimming.
Speaker 2:Ledecky. She's one of the most dominant women swimmers we've ever had. Andrew, was it you who sent the graphic? Maybe, maybe not. What's Ledecky's best race like the 1500? 1500 meter, yeah, you see, the world records for the 1500 is like it's all Ledecky, all Ledecky. 30 or 20 something of her races.
Speaker 1:Yeah, would you agree? And just to you know, respond to Harry a few minutes ago. I feel like the Olympics don't have the same allure as they did, like 08, beijing, like when Phelps was winning all those. I remember. I remember being so pumped for the Olympics and now I feel like no one really cares.
Speaker 4:It'll ramp up. I feel like I think it's just been a long time Cause, like COVID Olympics, no one cared. Tokyo.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it was also in the middle of the night wasn't it? Yeah, yeah, it was also in the middle of the night, wasn't it?
Speaker 4:Yeah, yeah, I mean this fan right. It'll be a lot bigger this year, but remember it's coming to the States in 2028. We get the World Cup and then we get the Olympics two years later.
Speaker 3:What city's hosting the Olympics?
Speaker 4:LA.
Speaker 3:I didn't even know that I didn't even know that Gavin Newsom. Yeah, president Newsom.
Speaker 1:President-elect Gavin Newsom.
Speaker 5:All right man.
Speaker 3:You got me excited with the Olympics, man. There's going to be a lot of wagering betting and I'll have something to do instead of working during the day. It's awesome. I love it.
Speaker 1:You got Wimbledon. You got Wimbledon.
Speaker 2:All Andrew had to say was our track team was really good. Seriously if you have time, check out the Netflix documentary.
Speaker 3:And then we can bet it yeah. I'll check that out too.
Speaker 4:It's amazing to see the Jamaican team train. They're out there running on grass fields and stuff. You see their facilities and they're producing some of the best. I mean Usain Bolt trained there. I mean it's crazy how good their athletes are and you look at their facilities compared to ours I mean the organ facilities out there that they have where they run the trials is just incredible. When does the Olympics start? The 24th, 28th, it's at the end of the month. Yeah, the 28th is the opening ceremony.
Speaker 3:Okay, and then the end of August, you got the US Tennis Open starts. Yep and college football is going to be so bad and college football will be in full strength then yeah, harry, we play first game.
Speaker 4:Man Week zero Florida State versus Georgia Tech In Ireland.
Speaker 3:In Ireland, I know.
Speaker 2:You going to play with the lads?
Speaker 1:Yeah, I wish A lot of Guinness is going to be pouring For the lads in Ireland.
Speaker 3:I blew all my vacation for 2024, so I'm out.
Speaker 2:Oh, harry, all right, do we want to talk about?
Speaker 3:We spent three weeks in Europe, man.
Speaker 2:Do we want to talk about hockey? I kind of want to hear about this impending speech.
Speaker 3:Did you see the fake one that posted up Huh, where Stamkos is saying, oh I hated the champ, I hate? Did you see the fake one that I posted up when Stamkos is saying, oh, I hated the champ.
Speaker 2:I hate these people. Oh, the AI, that was funny.
Speaker 3:He's probably pissed. He'll be fine. He got money that I don't think we were ever going to give him Not to say that he wouldn't have taken a discount.
Speaker 2:How old is Stamkos? 35, taken a discount. How old is Tim Cush? 35?, 33?
Speaker 4:35.
Speaker 1:Yeah. So if we want to get into To hockey Not great, not good. I think it's a bad precedent to be set by Julian Brisebois and I think that was the writing on the wall 16 months ago when he was up for an extension and Julian Brisebois said that's what he said, Nothing. All right, folks, I think that does it for us. I appreciate you tuning in. A lot of catching up today. We will be back soon. We will talk the post-COPA and Euro tournaments. We'll get into Olympics, NCAA 25, looking into the NFL season. Yeah, appreciate you all tuning in and we'll see you in episode 37.
