In what may be Luke’s final episode of Unpacking Sunday, he and Mike reunite after a short break to unpack this past Sunday’s “Out of Context” message from Matthew 18:19.
The guys explore how taking this familiar verse—“where two or three are gathered”—out of context can unintentionally diminish the personal work of Jesus and the incredible access we have to God through the Holy Spirit. They look at what Jesus is actually addressing in Matthew 18: church discipline, difficult conversations, and the pursuit of restoration.
In a culture where “cancel culture” can make cutting people off feel easier than pursuing reconciliation, the church has a unique opportunity to model something different. What does it look like to approach conflict with grace, humility, truth, and a genuine hope for restoration?
It’s a thoughtful and timely conversation about Scripture, community, conflict, and what it means to pursue biblical unity—even when the conversations are hard.
