Welcome to A Queen's Opinion . My name is Queen , my voice , my opinion and your listening ears this episode . We are talking about overrated Valentine's Day . The holiday is approaching and I want to drop this opinion in your ears before you go out and purchase those flowers , hearts and candy . Why do we celebrate Valentine's Day ? Do we even know where this holiday stems from Day ? Do we even know where this holiday stems from ? Do you really know why Valentine's Day was created ? Do you know Valentine's Day has a dark meaning in history ? I always thought Valentine's Day was overrated and I always thought Valentine's Day was a waste of money . So I started to dig into this holiday and why we are so excited for this one day of love .

I want to take just a moment to share a little history with you regarding Valentine's Day and how we ended up with this holiday . It's based off a pagan festival that took place in February called La Pachelia . During the festival , animals were killed and the blood was thrown on the women to represent fertility and easy childbirth . Pagans really thought the blood would help women with their fertility problem . Now , this already sounds like a hot mess to me . Why would women want animal blood thrown on them ? I guess . Back in those days , doctors really didn't know what the hell they were doing and women were expendable .

The internet had basically two stories as to how this holiday came about and is celebrated today . You see , historically Valentine's or should I say St Valentine's Day according to Britanniacom stated that a bishop named St Valentine wrote a letter to a friend's daughter and signed the letter from your Valentine . Saint Valentine was a Christian man who died a martyr . You see , the bishops and or bishops back in the early Roman days were punished for marrying couples after it was outlawed . Yet Saint Valentine ministered to the persecuted Christians and defied orders of not marrying couples , which spared the men from going to war . Now this doesn't sound like a love relationship , but an understanding between two people . Love may not have been part of their story , which is another way . Women were mistreated and not respected even back in those days . So St Valentine was given a holiday for his work in the church and helping persecuted Christians . Somewhere down the line , a festival was created by the Romans and it was called St Valentine's Day or Festival of Celebration . And then the church just declared the festival would be called St Valentine's Day , celebrated February the 14th , because the bishop who sent . He was a Christian man who died a martyr . He was a clergyman who was persecuted by the Christians and he died and was buried on February the 14th .

You won't find St Valentine in the Bible . If you're looking for him , nope , you won't find him . You will not find St Valentine in the Bible . I thought that was odd . He was a saint , don't you think Jesus would have mentioned him somewhere in the Bible ? But that's another episode , not this one .

After I started looking into this Valentine's Day , I realized that my opinion may be closer to the right thinking that Valentine's Day is overrated and we don't need a holiday to celebrate the people we love . We have people going out here purchasing love cards , candy and flowers . People going out here purchasing love cards , candy and flowers all sorts of materialistic items to show the world you love this person in your life . There is no amount of candy that can express my love for my husband . He can't buy enough candy for me to show me how he feels about me . Show me how he feels about me . He doesn't need to spend money like that to buy me candy by the pound to show me his love . If you're going to give a card , speak your written words from your heart or just tell me in person , or even a phone call . Let me hear your expressions , let me hear the words directly from you .

Flowers well , flowers are beautiful . My husband knows I love flowers . Flowers to me , are an expression of something of nature . It shows life in a beautiful way . Now , some people don't really care too much about flowers and my husband is one of those people . He says he doesn't like purchasing flowers because all they're going to do is die in a couple of days and that is a waste of money from his perspective . Yes , it's true , flowers will die in a few days , and plants would eventually as well , but the point is that flowers and plants are from Mother Nature's earth . I look at a flower and I relate them to a relationship . When you first meet the person , it's like planting the seed . As you get to know each other , the flowers begin to grow , and how long it lives depends on the care you give it . It needs nutrients , water , the right environment and atmosphere to grow , just like a relationship . If you have taken good care of the flowers , they will last for a lifetime , reproducing , regrowing and strengthening their roots . So , because of my connection with flowers and relationships . That's why I love them . Flowers and plants .

Just like most holidays in this commercialized world , flowers are given a bad reputation . For Valentine's Day , people give candy cards and flowers . Which flowers look pretty for a few days and it might go bad by the end of the week and the card is either trashed and forgotten or put away as a memory or until next time . Listen , if you're going to participate in this holiday , I suggest you go all out for your loved one . If this is the only day of the year that you show them you love them , care for them , appreciate them , then go all out for the holiday . Give them more than a dozen of roses how about a dozen of roses for 14 days , all the way up till 14th of February . Don't just buy a card . Give her a card 14 days in a row , written by you , not Hallmark . Don't just give her candy for one day . Give her Hershey kisses every day and follow it up with a kiss from you . If you're going to participate in the overrated Valentine's Day celebration , go big or go home or just don't participate . I'm going to upset a few people , but it's okay . I'm sorry to all the people participating this holiday and your loved one only shows you love .
