A Queen's Opinion Podcast

Shower vs Bath: The Clean Truth

Queen Season 3 Episode 15

We explore the age-old debate between showers and baths, examining which method truly provides the best cleansing experience. This episode challenges common misconceptions about bathing and offers insights into how immersion bathing opens pores and provides deeper cleaning benefits that quick showers cannot match.

The 7-day challenge: try both methods and compare how you feel afterward

Try alternating between showers and baths for three days each, then ask yourself if you felt different after bathing. Share your feedback with me through email, text, or Instagram message about your experience.

Welcome to a Queen's Opinion. My name is Queen, my voice, my opinion and your listening ears. This episode is called Showers vs Baths. Does it matter which process you use to clean your body? What is a shower? It is defined as to wash oneself in an enclosure in which a person stands under a spray of water to wash. Let's talk about showering for a moment. When you take a shower, you step inside the enclosure and turn on the shower head to get your body all wet. You're going to use some type of cleaning product for your body, get a little soap, whether it's a bar of soap or a creamy body wash soap. You're going to leather up that washcloth or scrunchie in the shower. Water is still falling and you begin to scrub your face, working all the way down your body, starting with the face, ears and neck. If you're a woman, you're going to lift up those breasts to wash underneath. Next, make sure you wash those armpits yes, wash them good. Move down the body, scrub your stomach and go on down the body, hitting all the important regions between your legs. I was growing up. Mama said you want to wash and clean front to back, start with the public area, move to the outer and inner lips and finally to the anus area. Continue moving down the body to the thighs, knees, calves. To the thighs, knees, calves, ankles and feet, and please make sure you clean those bunions. Take your washcloth and get between the toes and the bottom of your feet. Finally, this full shower process is completed within 10 to 15 minutes.

Speaker 2:

A shower is a quick process for cleaning your body when you need to get somewhere very quickly. So you take a shower. There's nothing wrong with showers. Yes, you are going to be clean when you get out of the shower, but you are only getting the top layer off. No deep cleaning of the body. You're getting the top layer off of your body and that's good. Yes, it's good. I'd rather you get the top layer off than no layers at all.

Speaker 2:

I hear all the shower takers out there saying when you take a bath, you are sitting in dirty water. Well, this has some truth to the statement. But first let me define what it means to bathe, which is an act or process of immersing and washing one's body in a large container of water. I agree with that up to a certain point. You see, if you took a bath more often, then you wouldn't be sitting in filthy water any more than you would be by taking a shower. When I grew up, my mother said you need to take a bath for a good cleaning. I didn't understand that until I was around 10 years old. Cleaning I didn't understand that until I was around 10 years old. I realized when you take a bath the water is hitting spots on the body that shower water may not reach well, like the inner lips and anus area. Yes, we wash all the same body parts, but the water. It just hits differently. Same body parts but the water, it just hits differently.

Speaker 2:

When you take a bath, oh baby, when you take a bath you run that water in the tub with some bubble bath, like fresh sake bath, honest, sensitive bubble bath, deep steep lavender bubble bath, dr Teal's foaming sleep bath or whatever bubble bath you like. To me, getting in the tub with the bubbles is getting the top layer of dirt off, just like the shower. When you sit in that water it feels good. It wakes up your whole body, the body starts to wake up and you feel a little tingle through your body. Your arms, legs and hands even feel different in a bath. You take in the smells from the bubble bath fragrance, listen to the smooth jazz music on your favorite song or your favorite movie in the tub. I like watching a little TV or listening to a book and, yes, I may even listen to our podcast. But sitting in that water is so relaxing and removes stress from the day and removes stress from the day. As you begin to relax in that warm bath, your pores begin to open up and release all that dirt from within your body. You begin the process of washing your body from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet, but in a slower, more relaxing process. Does this sound relaxing? I understand the shower takers out there saying, nope, sitting in dirt is not relaxing. I will offer up this example of soaking in water.

Speaker 2:

I'm sure many of you may have pedicures done on your feet. Let's take a minute to look at the process from a bathing standpoint. When you go for a pedicure, the foot technician lets your feet sit in water for a few minutes around three to five minutes, because it softens skin and open your pores. The dirt layers on your feet begin to fall off. The foot technician then scrubs your feet to remove all the dirty layers. Once the technician has removed the dirt from your feet. Your feet are given a rinse off from the dirty water. Your feet are dried off and moisturizers are applied to the feet.

Speaker 2:

The process of a pedicure is similar to taking a bath for your full body. We sit in the tub to soften the skin, open our pores and let the layers of dirt loosen and fall off through the process of scrubbing from head to toe. Then we rinse off and step out of the tub to dry our bodies and apply a moisturizer. Does it matter which process you use to clean your body? Not really. We accomplish the overall goal, which is to clean our bodies.

Speaker 2:

It comes down to a matter of preference and time. If you're okay taking a shower for a quick cleaning of the day so you can move on to the next thing, fine, then have a shower and move on to the next thing, fine, then have a shower. The shower offers you a quick cleaning and saves you time in the process. If you want a deeper cleaning of the body and time to relax and think about the day you had or the day coming up, you might want to take a bath. The bath offers you a want to take a bath. The bath offers you a deeper cleaning of your pores. Yes, the bath is more time consuming, but the overall benefits are better than the shower, or at least in this queen's opinion.

Speaker 2:

I want to end this episode with a challenge. Here is the challenge. I want you to take your shower for three days in a row, then, the next three days, take your bath and on the seventh day, ask yourself a few questions like did I feel different after my bath? Did my mood change after the bath? Did my perspective change regarding the baths? Would I incorporate baths more often in my daily cleaning of the body? I hope you walk away with a better understanding of the differences between the two options. If you take my challenge, then send me an email, a text or a message on Instagram with your response. Share your feedback with the Queen on this episode.
