The Big Topic Show

Bronies (Part 1)

Big Topic

PART 1 OF 3: When the children’s animated TV series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic first aired in 2010, it was apparent that the intended audience was young females. Developed for Hasbro by veteran show runner Lauren Faust as a revamp of the popular My Little Pony toy franchise, the show quickly managed to attract a…different…kind of following.

A "brony" is a term used to describe adult male fans of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The term — a portmanteau of "bro" or "brother" and "pony." — originated on 4chan in October 2010 as a way for adult fans of the show to distinguish themselves from the show's target demographic of young girls.

Bronies have a strong online community, which includes forums, social media groups, and fan-made art, videos, and fan fiction stories.

Listen in and horse around with the boys as they dig into this unique fandom.

*PART 2 COMES OUT THURSDAY, 3/23 @ 10 P.M. EST*
