Late Night Internet Marketing with Mark Mason -- Affiliate Marketing Tips, Online Business Advice, Email Marketing and SEO
Easy SEO Tips and Strategies for getting organic keywords are sort of like “fast weight-loss” programs: they are everywhere, but most of them don’t work. This week is different. This week on the Late Night Internet Marketing Podcast, I offer you a simple, common sense approach to keyword optimization that will allow you to get more traffic from keywords for which you are already ranking.
In the news, we discuss the new features just introduced at ConvertKit. I’m really excited about new automation features that make ConvertKit
even more awesome than it already is. Now, you can have messages in sequences that are conditional based on tags. Previously that was only available in broadcasts. Additionally, this idea of conditional publishing extends all the way down to the message level, where you can exclude blocks of text within a message based on tags. It’s so cool!
The tactics that I am going to discuss in our main segment is based on the fact that your position in the search engine rankings doesn’t matter unless you are on the first page. The vast majority of all the traffic that comes from Google comes from the first page because most searches don’t click past the first page.
One approach that you can take to instantly get more traffic to your website is go and identify all of the keywords on your website for which you are ranking one through ten, and of those, do whatever you need to do to move those pages up to the top because every notch up that you go can make a huge difference to the amount of traffic that you can get. How will you do this? Focus on the low hanging fruits.
First thing is figure out what is it about your content that’s not as good as your competitors’. There are lots of reasons why you would want to update your content, and with it, your publish date. Google likes fresh and long content so it’s going to help you. When you add more content, you will be adding key words that are related to your content and all of these will help you rank. Even if you do not see a change today, long-term, you will see results. In the long haul, you will move up from the bottom up due to improved content.
Another way to move up is to make sure that you are following the 14 critical SEO tips for bloggers in Episode 109 so go follow that checklist to help you remember what to do in each post that you are trying to optimize.
The other thing that you can do is to get backlinks to your content by contributing to other people’s blogs in the form of guest posts or leaving helpful and thorough comments in various places such as forums, and then linking back to your content.
Social signals are also of increasing importance so consider re-promoting pieces of content in social media. It has a potential of tickling whatever social signals are in Google and also has the possibly of being shared by others by linking to it.
If you do these, eventually, you will tackle the task for being on the top ranks.

Here is the video that I mentioned where Kathryn Aragon from aHrefs describes this idea of low-hanging SEO fruit and how to go get it. This involves finding pages that are ranking down near the bottom of page one and pushing them up to the top to increase your traffic from that keyword by as much as a factor of 10.
