Caring for orphans and widows clearly is one of the scriptural duties and privileges of every believer in Christ. In doing so, we demonstrate Christianity in a pure and genuine form. In God’s view, caring for people in need mirrors his own compassion. This is one of the ways we prove God’s kingdom is at work in the world through Christians today.

WORD

Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. James 1:27

THOUGHT

One of the evidences of genuine Christianity and living a gospel-centered life is to care for orphans and widows. In caring for them, we express our desire and commitment to love and serve God as he expects, and we reflect the character of his heart and his kingdom. The church is often confronted by popular culture to produce evidence of authentic Christianity. This is one of the evidences, for pure and genuine religion is found in the care of the marginalized, the lonely, the homeless, the widowed, the orphaned, the neglected, and the hurting in their distress.

PRAYER

May I see with your eyes, Lord, hear with your ears, and feel with your heart. Direct me by your Holy Spirit how I should care for widows, orphans, and others in need in my own community. Amen.

May your kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
