WORD The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. Psalm 24:1 THOUGHT Today, well over seven billion people live on the planet in unique groups, dispersed throughout hundreds of countries, speaking thousands of languages—and they all belong to the Lord. The earth on which we live, the seed we plant in soil, and the food we harvest and consume—it is all the Lord’s possession. From highest mountain to deepest sea, every living creature is owned by God and purposed for his good pleasure. Humanity thinks of itself as superior. We place a high value on our abilities, we reward our accomplishments, we boast of our dominance, and we demand accolades for great feats. Advanced and noble as we may seem, we are small and insignificant in light of the Divine Proprietor. Each accomplishment we tout as our own was an idea conceived in the Creator’s mind, borrowed from his creative canvas. The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.
